The day is finally here! After around 10 months of hard work (in the beginning was off and on), I am finally launching my mobile app Talo. During this journey I learn mobile development, gained skills in new technologies like Golang and React Native, started the project over from scratch 😡, fought with Apple reviewers, and spent countless late nighters. But hey, we did it. To check out Talo: ap...

There's this new language trending called Gleam and I thought I take a look at it. I spent the last two days, in my free time, reading the docs and playing around with the language. I have to say I really like it. I doubt most companies will be switching to Gleam anytime soon, but I do think it has potential. In this video I start off with a quick summary what it is and then the remaining time ...

Hi David I like your Vlogs, What software are you using to build your mobile app?
Thanks for watching and supporting. Still trying to figure out this thing called UA-cam 😂. For my mobile app I used React Native and Typescript for the app. My backend use Go, PostgreSQL, and GCP.
Great video David! Are you going to keep uploading videos of your public Saas project, those are the best!
Thanks for always supporting the channel. Update coming soon!
Congratulations! I'm still learning from my first mentor, very happy for you.
Thanks! Keep it up. Learning is part of the job and doesn’t go away.
Great video David. Great to see that you’re a family man, I remember my daughters being that excited when I came home.
Thanks man! Yeah it’s definitely a great feeling. I can’t wait I to teach them how to code. Whether AI takes off or not, it’ll be my version of teaching my kids how to drive stick 😂
Thank you so much for your video! Doing a unique awesome project and networking, that's what I learned from your video!
Glad it was helpful!
congrats! 🎉
Thanks man!
Always a great day when you upload David! What stack are you using for this project?
Thanks! Remix, Prisma, PostgreSQL, GCP, TypeScript, etc…
Post more videos! I want to see updates of the app! ❤
Video coming tomorrow! Love your videos man
@@davidjustice8087 damn bro I appreciate that!👊🏼👊🏼
I love this video of a walk through of your day to day. :) great work! loved the dance break with your son.

Hi bro your videos are very awesome and real . And i also love the way that you explain the things
Thanks man. This means a lot. My whole goal is make content that is real and relatable
Finally an engineer with a family!😂 broseph ya gotta throw some art on the walls also
Haha thanks man. New place and interior design isn’t my specialty.
Why would anyone want to live in NJ is beyond me.
Started to get into Gleam, looks pretty good.
Yeah I like certain things about it. Just curious on company adoption and what its long term adoption looks like.
What's up David, Jamal from Lincoln. Glad to see you doing well. Great video
How have you been bro? Hope all is well. Thanks for subscribing too. Trying this UA-cam thing 😂
Great platform so far! cant wait to see more.
Thanks my guy. Some great inside looks coming soon
Great video bro! Do you have an instagram? I'd love to have a chat sometime
Your ass is NOT reading while eating eggs 😭
Amazing video bro, looking forward to watch the next steps of your project
Thanks! Definitely more to come
For the main project at work we are using TypeScript, Next.js, and AWS amplify. There's probably some other suff in there but I don't touch any of it.
How do you like Nextjs? I’ve heard a lot of people like amplify
@@davidjustice8087 It's all I know, really. So, I can't compare it to anything. I only knew vanilla JS when I got hired and they threw me straight into their TypeScript/Nextjs project after my training period.
Great video David! Once you learned javascript and could create projects how long did it take for you to learn typescript and node.js?
Typescript basics maybe a few weeks. NodeJs took a while. Maybe 2 months. I can’t remember. Backend was harder for me to understand. Get down get out don’t stop saying no But JavaScript is so big you can’t learn it all. I just learned enough to continue learning and to build things.
the diagram is so helpful! great video brother!
Thanks DC!
did you code your site im having a problem with I can't code but I need to put a site up for my startup any suggestions
YEs I did. Everything displayed, I coded. There’s really two paths. The longer one, teach yourself coding basics (what I did in early 2022) or bring someone on to build it for you. This could be a technical co-founder or hiring a freelancer/dev shop. The best choice for you will depend your on financial state, long term goals, and time available. Hope this helps.
awesome product! love the concept🚀
Thanks brother. Same to yours. A actual demo is coming soon!
@@davidjustice8087 can't wait😎
cool
THanks!
Bro this is awesome!!
Thanks my guy💪🏽
Hey man awesome video, I wanted a tip from you. It was my dream of becoming a front end engineer or developer who could do both design and code front ends. Right now, I got the opportunity to work as a backend developer in web so I took it as I thought knowing about the backend will help me as a front end developer too. How long should I stay in this backend developer role and will this be beneficial? It is also my first job!
I definitely think it will be beneficial. Similar situation happened with me. I think the first job, you just need to get in. You will learn so much. As far as how long you stay depends on what you’re looking for. At least 6 months but ideally 1-2 years depending on if you like the team and what you’re doing and if another opportunity comes up. I think taking a backend role first really helped me grow as a developer. Work on frontend projects on the side to keep that skillset.
WHat technologies are companies using in your experience and what useful skills have you gained
Depends on the type of role. There are so many jobs out there and companies use different tech stacks. If you’re in web development, learn typescript (after JavaScript). I feel like most teams in web use it by now. Also learn 1 web framework (react, angular, etc). Backend tech really varies. Some use Golang and some use Python. In my experience, you eventually be using more than one programming language in the backend. DB wise, learn a PostgreSQL. Can’t go wrong with SQL. Also learn Docker!
Family first. 😊
Always!
What is the price for the house you are showing and location
Where is the location
Yeah I'm definitely still in the "just get it working" phase 6 months in!
All good brother. We’ll both get there
Really appreciate this video! Many of the other intro to Gleam videos I've seen assume a certain amount of Erlang knowledge.
Yeah I noticed that too. Idk if it’s just me, but I don’t think most devs are familiar with the beam eco system. Just wanted to give people a taste to the language. I’ll probably do more in the future since people seemed to like it.
Realu cool to hear this; as a senior dev (I guess), I can relate with a lot of what you shared. I think the thing to focus on is noticing the tradeoffs; the tensions pulling on you to make decisions in one direction or another. If you can sense those tensions and make decisions about them consciously, and defend them in a conversation, that’s huge. Also check off Elixir :D
Yeah it’s definitely something I’m actively hoping to grow a skill in. Im starting to notice that a lot of the industry is based on mindset and how we look at problems. I have been off and on playing with gleam and it’s been making me want to take a dive in elixir.
Hey David! As a person who works with you closely, I think your doing amazing work! Don't get too down. You'd be surprised how good you are doing. Keep up the good work. And great content!
Thanks Dan for the encouragement and for checking out the channel! Means a lot coming from you. Honestly part of this is normal and the other part is just making sure I’m always keeping myself honest.
@@davidjustice8087 of course! You inspire me to do fun things outside of work by watching these. I think we all face that feeling, wondering whether we are good enough. That is what I love about our team. We are realistic, have fun, but understand that we all need to grow. Keep the content coming!
thank you for this video David. The tech job market is rough at the moment what do you think as a candidate we should be doing to stand out for entry level jobs?
Network! It’s how I got my last job. Go to meetups, volunteer work to get in resume, join programs that help people break in like job pools, slack and discord channels. Whatever you can to meet people in the industry and make connections. I got a once in a life time connection 1 month after moving that landed an interview for the job I have now.
I truly truly appreciate your content I am currently learning now and this is giving me extreme confidence. Ps you look like Rolly😂
Thanks my guy for watching and glad my videos help in your journey. Rolly Romero 😂? Well when he was winning I would take that as a compliment but he just got knocked down in last 2-3 fights haha
@@davidjustice8087 yeah he cooked but I’m proud to see another brother learning and doing well for himself and his family
Which language did you start out with? Do you still recommend that language? Was it GoLang?
I went back and forth between Python and JavaScript my first year. The last month before my first professional role, I learned TypeScript which landed me the job. I love Go (or Golang)! There are definitely a lot jobs using the language, but I would say not as much as the previous too. It could be a good route to distinguish yourself, but if the biggest pool of job opportunities is what your looking for, then I would say not as first.
how many eggs u eat at morning? And what do you have for dinner?
Haha never been asked this before. Generally 3 eggs scrambled which cheddar or American. Dinner varies
thanks for sharing sir. it motivated me to take a step ahead. hope u guide me if required, !

Fridgge stocked full of Capri Suns, life is good Is the Benz from Software Engineering or leftover from real estate??? These are the big questions aspiring devs need to know
Yeah my manager takes team hydration seriously 😂. If a job doesn’t have unlimited capri suns as a benefit, I can’t take the job. The Benz is from real estate.
