Sounds like you are satisfied with the end results, so I won't recommend this advice for you, but I'll recommend it to anyone else who has been scammed. SUE THE SCAMMER/THIEF IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT. I have just started the process, so I cannot say things will work out in my favor, but if we buy something "AS-IS" we do have some recourse. Where do you find these cars

Run a Carfax & AutoCheck on it. How many miles on it & what state are you in? If there a lien on it it's up for repossession be careful. If you can not get title for sure just strip it & sell the parts as you can make more money on it such as the engine & transmission. Also you can sell it for export into another country & make some money on it as they not need the title. Sorry this happened to ya bud lots of scamming on Marketplace, eBay & Craigslist.

Say it with me, Never ever accept a car with no title to it, no matter what the story is.

If you got a friend who owns a tow yard, you can have him put a lien on it an the financing company will either pay to get it back or write off tbe loss and you will have a title

You can get burned even with a title, but if you are buying a decent car without one then getting burned now... No title no sale! If someone looses a title then they can go get a new one easily.

Wow... its only worth $6 to $12k depending on the miles. If a car seller doesn't have the title, THEY DONT OWN IT. If they have the title, check the title for lien holder. Also there are car info sites that will show previous owner. No title no deal... period.

Those nissans if it has cvt gearboxes are destined for the whole car to be worth nothing if it goes ,So really it was only a mater of time till it ended up at the dump. ,Pray to God literally it come back to you in another way don't worry. My neighbour single mum had a nissan with the same gearbox cost her $4500 to fix and last 4 months and ended up at a wrecking yard.. unless it was the stick shift model .

Marketplace seems worse than CL ever did, even in it's worst times. Scam machine. I edited my original comment to remove part of it. It's nice that the police did indeed get involved. Still, the guy may have been done wrong, but commuting a felony crime against another person because one has been committed against him doesn't change the facts. You should have gotten all of your stuff back and he should have been charged.
