Hey what's it mean when the leaves on my boxwood in west texas are turning black! It doesn't wipe off either and didn't get frost or snow on them.
Hard to say. But i would think is some kind of fungal thing. I would remove the black leafs if its not alot and spray with a fungicide like Daconil
@@lifeofbonsai Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try!
Thx for sharing
Thank you for watching 😁
Nice Carlos 👊👊
Do you have an update on this video??
Unfortunately i sold it😬
@@lifeofbonsai ohh, i really wamted to see the result. But, nice video. Thanks
@@haynrichsulbaran2450 it took really nicely i apologize
Wow! Nice trunk on that beast! You don't see a lot of bald cypress trunks with that natural looking taper. I wonder if it's possible to start one from seed and still achieve that look.
I think it could be possible but once it's a bit older 2 year or so grow it standing water, when they grow in nature in flooded places they build those flares
Electrical tape with sticky side out is good to use. It also gives a little bit as growth occurs
Ahhh nice didn't think of that one. Easier to apply too
indeed, a very good method
Yes. Hs worked great for me 😁
Nice demonstration. I should try the pot method. I’ve only ever tried the plastic bag method. But I like the idea of having better control of the moisture like you mentioned. Thanks for the tip!
Yes it has worked for me so much better . The bag one would always dry for some reason
@ that’s great. Yeah I’ve had the bags dry on me as well … and I’ve had to get like a Turkey baster snuck in there to add water. 🤣
Nice Carlos 👊
Hello. Great videos. I am researching into starting with bonsai. Can you recommend a spec species that will do good with heat and direct sun?
Hi. You will love the hobby 😁. Any Ficus tree will do great 😁 and beginner friendly
You know where can I find cheap bonsai soil in Dallas ?
Look up Bonsai Minh on Facebook he sells at good prices
@ couldn’t find his page
Send me a message on Instagram @Lifeofbonsai_
That Holly is amazing! Damn! May she live on in your bonsai pot
Yess i really really hope it makes it
Do you have an updated video of this now ?
Not recent , but will be posting an update soon😁
I hope it will make it 👍
I really do hope so 😩
amazing bonsai art
Great video, thanks. It Broke my heart every time knowing my enthusiasm killed trees that deserved to be in a professionals hands and not the student
Oh trust me i feel the same way. I had some great trees that could have been amazing bonsai but didn't know how to keep then alive
Lucky bastard 🧡 beautiful trees
Thank you😅
Nice Carlos mate your wife is going to go mad 😂😂 no more room on the balcony for sure 😂
I am about to get kicked out😩. We have another dig next month 😳
@ 😂😂
Nice content. Please keep us updated
Thank you. Really nervous about this holly but if it makes it will be amazing . Will post update 😁
OMG. That is incredible. What a good score! You'll have an amazing tree for many many years! I think you are on the right track pruning the leader back where you were pointing at the 3:06 mark. That will look great.
Yes i am so happy to have been able to get it. Thank you i was undecided on which one to choose but you are definitely right that ones will be the lead and chop will be done😁
@@lifeofbonsai I'm excited to see the eventual new styling!
Yes , will be posting updates on it😁
Wow, what an amazing trident maple ... very curious to see the future development.
Yes i am excited to see it wake up this spring and see what it gives me to work with
Nice vid, a 360 degree view would have been nice.
Yes i missed that, i will be doing some work on it in the next few weeks and do a full view 😁
Jackpot i guess!
Absolutely ! 😁
Congrats! 200bucks you did awesome! I was in Dallas the other day and went to that nursery up near addison, but they had nothing in stock. I brain dumped about the bonsai nursery you told me about. I ended up getting a couple of cheap tiny maples from Mr Maple to try. I hear they are next to impossible to grow in west texas, but I am gonna try before investing the bucks. You are gonna do great in Dallas with this trident!
Thank you very much, yes i am excited and still can't believe i got this tree. I really wish we could grow Japanese maples better , ive seen it done but foliage always looks not the best during summer. But tridents are pretty though here😁
Very nice Carlos love it 👊👊
Thank you sir😁
so so great, and i cant believe you got it for 200 man. great taper and flow even. excited to see more videos of it!
Yes same here, well taxes added up lol but still the tree is really really nice, in some seasons it will be a nice bonsai 😁
Nice Trident, I'm sure most would love one like that! My main Trident is currently in the ground for the past 5 years and it's not even close to that thick. Love the taper and movement on yours, it's a good example for what I'm looking to achieve with mine.
Yes o couldn't pass on it. But 5 years wow i am sure that boy is thickening up really nicely 😁. Doing development of taper while in the ground? Ive heard is faster
Thank you for sharing your experience, bro🙏
Thank you for watching 😁
If you’re trying to grow knees you’re going to need a much wider pot. I would start by repotting it in the masonry bin you have it sitting in with a generous amount of substrate. The hardest part will be finding an even larger container to soak it in! Knees take years to develop plus there’s no guarantee they will even if given the right conditions. Not trying to discourage you, just a friendly warning so you’re not too disappointed if it never happens. Either way, giving the tree a wider pot will allow the trunk more space to swell while you’re waiting for knees. Fingers crossed! Incredible specimen and great video, btw! Hope to see more of this one!
Thank you very much. Yes i will be up potting into a larger container and jst let it grow crazy. That is the goal 😁. Pretty excited to see what i can get it to develop . But i honestly doubt it will develop knees 😮
Love the video. I leave my trees out in the day. At night when it below 50F I bring them in. Outside they are only getting about 3 1/2 hours of direct sun in winter, So when I bring them in I am using a version of the hanging LED. How far do you have it from the top of the trees? Thanks
That sounds good , wish i could bring mines outside but temperature stays under 40 . But mines I usually have them maybe 11-12 inch high from trees. I usually check for burnt leaves to see if it's too close
@@lifeofbonsai Thanks,,,I take them out in the morning and them bring them in after the sun sets. In spring, summer and fall they are out all the time. Our summers have temps around 115F. Have shade cloth.
Should I put junipers in greenhouse in winter or should I leave them outside? I live in the Northeast.
Depends , if is a heated greenhouse i wouldn't leave them on there. They need a dormancy period , i would leave them outside and if it gets too cold i would put it in a unheated garage of bury the pot in the ground

Bonsai is not about making a tree small, it is about making a small tree look big.
Absolutely agree with you
When should I pruning my Starfruit bonsai . It turns 10 years old this month , I just bought it , it’s coming in the mail.
So i would wait and keep it healthy first . Since it's shipped it will br stressed . Let it settle first in your place and wait after a month if you start seeing lots of new growth
@ ok will do thank you !
Thx for the knowledge
Good advice Carlos mate 👊👊
Mantap bosku bonsainya 👍👍
Very nice man!
Thank you so much 😁
Love the whole collection bro, very good mix of species. Just wondering when we’ll ever see some conifers 😅 ??
Haha the bald cypress is a decideous conifer 😅
@ 😂😂😂 forgot to specify (evergreen conifers)
Haha maybe this year😅
The blooming bonsai is so lovely! Nice work
I really appreciate it. Is my favorite tree from my little collection 😁
Nice Carlos mate happy new year fella 👊👊
Happy new year brother
Are there any updates on these trees?
Yes you can check on of my latest video titled, Bonsai balcony fall update. It shows how well its doing
Look like shit to me
Everyone has their own opinion ☺️
I don't understand why my bald cypress's still have green foliage in autumn??
Is normal , some bald cypress react differently than others. Some don't go into fall color and jst droo foliage randomly .
@@lifeofbonsai Thanks for the reply sir. I was wondering because last year every thing was fine. It went into fall colour but this year the story is different.
@@plantszone443 yes they do that, my trident maple did the same no fall color this year
@@lifeofbonsai Sad. Some kind of stress like heat or drought might be the reason behind. Isn't it?
*found two small Bonsai thrown in trash 6 months ago it had a lot of brown. i cut off brown spots. not a green thumb here just started doing gardening and reading a lot of "how to" any tips on how to prune of cut off brown spots. some reading says not to cut thru needles just straight off the the whole end. i didn't do that so it still green but not as what i've seen* *remembered Mr Miyagi scene when daniel-son ruined Bonsai it but got saved*
That is amazing ! Usually those are already past being able to save, but that means you definitely did great on helping it recover , i am sure it is a beautiful tree 😁
What an awesome nursery, absolutely love the huge bougainvillea!
Yes i really wanted to take it, specially at the price
it's just a plant can't feel pain
Koleksi bonsainya mantap bosku 👍👍👍
