QIDI Tech X-Max 3d printer extruder failure

A quick video to outline the issues I've encountered with my new 3d printer - as requested by QIDI sales support that needed to see visually what has happened. I correctly identified that the fan had stopped, but it was NOT for the reasons in this video. After contacting QIDI support, they also informed me that the fan control was temperature-controlled and set for around 50c, so I continued to...

    Hi Robert, great video. We have the same model and I need to replace the glass in the sliding door; it doesn’t appear that the glass can be inserted like the other panels and wondered if you’d encountered the same problem? Do the instructions show how the door could be disassembled to insert the glass? Many thanks!

      @robertjones5395 Рік тому

      Hi, yes i did encounter a few problems in replacing the glass in the doors. I eventually worked out the only way was to drill out the pot rivets and dismantle the sections. The door only disassembles half way with screws, allowing two sections. I finished it, and then it felt over in the wind and smashed the glass, so I get to do it all over again! maybe i'll video what I do for you. but don't expect it too soon, i've got loads of other projects on the go. But I suggest that you purchase a pot-riviter set. best of luck!

    On a different note, did you ever solve your question on UK PAL DV 720x756 conversation as I have a solution if not. You are more likely to read this than on the original youtube video I thought, hope you don't mind.

    • @robertjones5395
      @robertjones5395 Рік тому

      Thanks for the reply. I sort of solve it, but the solution is quite involved, and I know that the resolution has suffered. There are fairly good converters that are used in the commerical TV industry that can convert from PAL to HD. Its a hardware solution that gives respectable results - but is a compromise. I'm interested if you have an alternative - its worth a go.

    • @zakelwe
      @zakelwe Рік тому

      @@robertjones5395 Hello there, ok my software solution is to capture the original PAL DV recording using Windows MovieMaker ( FILE --> IMPORT FROM DEVICE). This creates a large file though but it is at 720x576 resolution. I then use VSDC to convert it to a much smaller MKV file format. When I import the file that Movie Maker created it gives you the project settings. Here you can sit the width and height to be 720x576 if it has changed ( mine reverted to 720x540 I recall for some reason, so I set it back to 720x576. ). Once this is done you can then export the project. I would use the Ultra or high quality setting as normal loses some resolution. Let me know if that helps.

    My machine is 2 weeks old. Been printing 70 odd parts at 2 hours each with no problems until today. My fan has also failed due to serious warping of the outer frame. If I squeezed it slightly I could get it to run. PLA totally clogged the drive mechanism, I had to totally strip it down to component level. I did not know about the fan until I found your video. The drive is totally clogged again I suspect as nothing out of the nozzle. I noticed too that when I took the extruder out of the printer, the stepper drive motor was too hot to touch. 2 new fans on their way from Melbourne, I am in Adelaide. Regards.

    Hi Robert at 12.39 on your video you added a black strip on the outside on the triangle. Would you please be able to tell me what it is called……..is it a silicone rubber gasket? Thank you

    • @robertjones5395
      @robertjones5395 2 роки тому

      They are called coping strips. They have a t-profile(as view side on), they clamp onto the cross members of the main structure and over lap with the glazing on each side, and help to hold the glass in place. I also squirted LM glazers silicon sealant along the cross members on each side just before placing the glass into position. This ensures a near air tight seal, and no metal/glass contact, which should help towards removing the risk of glass cracking from expansion differences between the glass and aluminum frame.

    • @robertjones5395
      @robertjones5395 2 роки тому

      For a closer look of the coping strips - see 18:12-18:35. The coping is in place on the frames and it shows that the gray/black coping. The grey material is UV stablised uPVC, the black edge is a rubberized material and is bonded to the coping are supplied. The rubber material forms a good seal on its own.

    You cannot test hotend fan like that, it's normal for it to stop spinning immediately after you press it in the fan menu. This fan is temperature controlled and will automatically start and stop at 50 C so instead go to the preheat menu and heat it up and see if it starts spinning past 50 C. If it doesn't you have an issue with it, otherwise something else is likely the culprit.

    Pla doesn't like being printed in an enclosure. It will get too soft and will jam things up. That's why Qidi makes the doors removable. I run my Esun pla+ at 205 on my E3V2 fyi. You might want to try lowering the temp on that pla. I found your video cause I just ordered an X-plus. I don't know how the fans work on this machine yet, but sometimes the fans go off and on intermittently for a specific reason. That could be what you're seeing. Hopefully you'll post an update with the outcome. I'm sure they'll send you a whole new hotend.

      if I can find my instructions, I'd happily scan them for you. Be aware that there may be several variants of each model, and the documentation didn't quite keep up with all the changes. My instructions were materially wrong with some of the strut sizes, and by inference this also changes the glass sizes too, and led to a lot of confusion. I bought mine pre-dismantled. I needed 27 new glass plates, as there were some difficulties in the dismantling. If you are dismantling, then I would strongly suggest that you mark each strut with a numbering system with a selfie marker and take lots of pictures. Probably buy some new nuts and bolts (M4 i think, Stainless steel.). Mine needed new new seals as the old ones had rotted. and I have needed 48 tubes of silicone LM sealant for the glass. Nice project - -very strong, but needs a very level base! Take your time to dismantle - it will probably take 2 full days. The original family business that made these sold it onto another company, but many of the staff were retained. There may be some spare parts available for some of these models. Best of luck - kindest regards, Rob
