EVERY Lucius Game - Video Game Odysseys #12
The "Lucius" series puts you in the role of the Devil's son, performing all sorts of deranged, gory kills to satisfy your Father. Featuring a trilogy of games and an 8-bit demake, that pay homage to the horror genre, it never gained a huge amount of attention. Let's take a look at the series and see if we can figure out why...

I think if Legendary Axe would have been the pack in game rather than Keith Courage the Turbogeafx would have been more successful in the U.S.

One of the best films ever. Holographic projection, monorail, flat screen, a moon shot. So old that some actors weren't used to talking movies and were very theatrical. A definite classic. In the film, a side effect of the poison gas was the Wandering Sickness. The first zombie movie?

So people here are commenting that the legendary axe is the original Japanese title, but the actual original Japanese title is Makyo Densetsu (Demon Legend) with “The Legendary Axe” as the English SUBTITLE. The next game is Ankoku Densetsu (aka Dark Legend). They definitely are sequels, though you can tell the difference in developer right away. I always get the feeling that Victor wanted this series to be akin to Final Fantasy and be vastly different aesthetically and story wise from entry to entry. But then JVC stopped the series by the second game, and haven’t touched it since. The English localizers probably realized how much they painted themselves in a corner relying on that “Legendary Axe” subtitle as the main one when the next game didn’t at all use the Legendary axe title at all.

Legendary Axe was always my favorite game on the Turbo, even though I could never pass stage 4 as a kid. I just got an Analogue Duo a couple weeks ago and I was determined to beat this game. I finally did and I think I've gone back and beat it 5 more times this past week. I have Legendary Axe 2 as well, but I always though it was inferior in every way (which makes sense since it's a completely different game and developer).

Legendary Axe 1 actually was on the turbo graphics virtual console on the wii for a while. It got removed for whatever reason. I had the original game as a kid and my brother and I were fascinated with it. My Uncle had LA2 and we played it a good amount. We were like 4 years old so as fascinating as those games were, they were also TERRIFYING. Especially the second game. I remember another uncle used to stay up at night and play turbo graphics with us in the summer time. He got to the final boss in the first game. My brother and I called the final boss "pizza feet" because of the way his feet looked and the way they kinda jiggled around as he moved lmao

Even with only 1% matches and have 1000 comparisons: You still have 10 matches you can list. (that's the mathematical magic behind that) List all the non matching comparisions: The Lightning can't use the force, doesn't have a sword and don't shoke his subordinates. And Darth Vader don't look like a Mandalorian.

Actually, there is a third game... somewhat) As some people already mentioned, LA2 is not a true sequel. Developer for the first one, Aicom, after doing it, started making another similar game for different publisher. Aicom was a small developer studio, and they did that a couple of times - make one game for one publisher, and then make similar for another. Like Megumi Resque (Master System) - Flying Hero (Famicom), Hoops - All-Pro Basketball (both on NES) and Legandary Axe. The "sequel" you are looking for called Astyanax, but not the NES version. Aicom made Arcade game first. That is the one you want)

You are right. Legendary Axe II is not actually a sequel to the first game. The localization team just retitled Ankoku Densetsu (Dark Legend) to Legendary Axe II because of the success of the first game. To avoid the lightning strikes in level 6, just make sure that you aren’t near the lightning rods shortly after the screen flashes. You’ll never get hit if you are standing between them.

Great video! So the only evidence I can give you about Legendary Axe 2 NOT being a Legendary Axe game is that in Japan Legendary Axe 1 is titled Legendary Axe, while the 'sequel' has a completely different title. So yeah I'd say they just changed the title in the States to help the Turbo sell
