IT'S ALL FOR YOU (TOUT CA C'EST POUR VOUS) BY MISTINGUETT 1928
Переглядів 6814 днів тому
Mistinguett (Miss Tinguet) French singer and dancer, made this Odeon record in Paris in May 1928. When I found the record it had a half inch edge chip which erases 3 or 4 seconds of the orchestral intro. Apparently each record had a sticker portrait of Mistinguett on both sides..
THE YAMA YAMA MAN BY ADA JONES 1909
Переглядів 10121 день тому
Miss Jones recorded this Broadway hit in Camden on May 11, 1909. The song was performed on the stage by Miss Bessie McCoy. Miss Jones made versions of the song for Victor, Columbia and Edison. I apologize for the rough start of this record; "Every little tot at night is afraid of the dark, you know; some big Yama man they see when off to bed they go" is the first verse.

Miss Wiley recorded an album of four Cole Porter songs for the Liberty Music Shop in Manhattan in 1940. She was accompanied on two sides by Bunny Berigan's Music, including Joe Bushkin, piano. I wish this record was flawless; the set was sans album when I found it. Thanks to whoever posted an image of the original album.

ARTHUR COLLINS' LAST SOLO RECORDING 1922
New to me, but one of a series of tearjerker songs where a child hopes new technology will provide a bridge between earth & heaven. I posted 'I Want To Telephone To Mammy' but perhaps better known was 'Hello Central Give Me Heaven' Then there was 'I Wish There Was A Wireless To Heaven' All material for the songwriters of the day.
The earliest one I recall is "Just A Baby's Prayer At Twilight."
@@OldGrooves-eh5uz A real tearjerker dating to 1918, but sounds earlier.
This is very entertaining. My father was a pilot: it would have been fun to call him "Mr. Airplane Man."
Thanks! I think Charles Lindbergh was the inspiration for the song.
Interesting channel. Glad I subscribed
Thanks!
Subbed & liked…just edifying
I always enjoy hearing these, and appreciate the photos, as well.
Thanks!
And they enjoyed 'Cocktails For Two' when prohibition finally ended!
!4 years later.
Lew is underrated.
Beautiful, melody over rhythm, no pounding bass (and I am a bassist, among other things).
Thanks!
Nice!
Thanks!
I am Zeke Morris' grandson.
Thanks. I hope you got to hear them play.
ahh I love this piece
Woah. Had no idea he did anything for Gennett
As far as I've been able to find out, this was his only Gennett session.
Thought the savoy was a black night club?
It was, but primarily it was a dance hall.
Interesting video. Thank you.
You're welcome.
A really catchy herpetology lesson in ragtime. Interesting that you should discover a record made on the day of the tragedy. We don't always have exact recording dates, but by 1912, recording studios worldwide would be busy places, so how many other records would have been cut on that day. In future, when I have an exact recording date for my postings, I'll check to see if a notable event took place on that day.
DAHR lists recordings made on a specific day. If you google, for example, "recordings made on Monday, April 15, 1912," you will get a list of Victor, Columbia, and Edison records made on that day. (If you google the year, Wikipedia provides a history of it).
@@OldGrooves-eh5uz Useful to know. Thank you.
Well folks I happen to like it. Points for uniqueness.
Nice
Oh Mr. Hoch , Satan called and said your room is ready!
Miss Bankhead had a voice that would definitely have to grow on you. Smokey and languorous. Cheers!
As far as I know, she only made two records in her life. I wish she had made a few more.
A snapshot of a time which is infrequently recalled . . . . 1948 to 1954 . . . . people were still busy picking up the pieces from the war.
Well, she was a great actress.
Yes.
This one musta totally tanked in 1951....but it could almost fit in somewhere in the 1920s, early 1930s though.....and done okay...almost.
I think this was a novelty project. She liked to hang out where the Bushkin band was playing (the Carlyle Hotel) and sing along. Someone decided to make a record.
Wow I guess the celebrity album that shouldn't have been made pre dates William Shatner's "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"
I think this is better than "LSD."
OJ Simpson would approve of this song...
Quaint little song about murder plans 😅
Extremely rare title
Interesting that copy of telegram still exists. Apart from orchestration having a 1920's hint, song sounds very dated for 1922. Perhaps it was time for this great duo to retire.
it's too bad he couldn't have finished with something other than a mediocre coon song The flip side is Harlan singing " Who Tied A Can To The Old Dog's Tail." Although the sides were made on the same day, they apparently didn't perform a duet. Maybe they stormed out of the studio disgusted with the crap they had to record.

Great song!
I agree. Thanks!

rebels be rebels LOL
What the hell this is so bad it's good
Thanks!
I'm back @@OldGrooves-eh5uz
I have a wonderful working gramophone and this very record.
He died at the young age of 26. Supposedly accidentally shot. He was dating Carole Lombard at the time of his death and was supposed to have dinner that night with her and Bing Crosby. His life was way too short.
He and his friend were examining an antique pistol (which hadn't been fired for a hundred years) when it went off and shot Russ through the right eye. I'm glad he made these Victor records (supervised personally by Nat Shilkret, who liked Russ).
Russ Columbo… …was the One More (Real) Thing.
Young Jolson have a pretty voice
"Coração Doente" means "Sick Heart". Lovely tune! Greetings from S. Gonçalo - Rio de Janeiro.
Thank you for the iinformation. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Greetings!
I love the type a music
Fox trot is a swedish gang btw😂
Gostei do tema. Sem alvoroço de baterias e guitarras barulhentas, é muito bom ouvi-lo. maneco - Porto Alegre-RS - Brasil.
Thanks. The transfer (from a decent copy of the 78) could be better, but I only had one stylus.
A truly fine version of this evergreen classic. Great that you have the first recording & vintage photos of the area. I posted a few early 'cover versions, but especially like this from a husband & wife team: ua-cam.com/video/ConFtmoWbJQ/v-deo.htmlsi=SVmB3cH16F467n1G
I liked the Eliots' version. Thanks for the compliment about Halley's. He had a casual style that was ahead of its time, I think. He was a 21 year old guy who was putting himself through law school by singing in vaudeville and making records. He made records from 1913 to 1915, then, as soon aa he got his degree, he quit show business forever. I have several of his records and they are all good.
@@OldGrooves-eh5uz The song was way ahead of its time too, being heard well into the 1950's & 1960's. Interesting that he had such a mature voice & was so talented at a young age that he could use it to fund his academic work.
Nice old fashioned 'hornified' sound! Pretty singer too.
She had a good voice for recording.
His hobo songs are iconic.
The Seattle Harmony Kings playing Irving Berlin! Who could ask for anything more? Thanks for sharing! 🙂
This hints at the 1920's yet to come.
Great arrangement and great contrast to “Fats” Waller’s famous rendition. Great band and arrangement! Thanks for sharing!
Great old recording of a “sort-of” ragtime piece. Nice to see the sheet music, too!
I was able to get a decent transfer from the 78, which is in excellent shape. I guess the tune is late ragtime. It would be interesting to hear what Byron G. Harlan did with it but I don't have that record.
@@OldGrooves-eh5uz yes, it’s always great to find the originals in good condition. Great transfer 😊
Great video, song, arrangement, and band, thanks for sharing this delightful rarity!
Delightful. Truer words never spoken - In this sense, and also in that I have a lot more years behind me than I do ahead.
We're in the same boat. Thanks.
Interesting story. By the sound of this he'd have made a fine career in vaudeville too!
