sick!
FAB!
I’ll that’s nasty
those drums here are gretsch renown ... look at the brand badge at 2.05
Go Damion!
Liberty, great. Listening now with a smart guitarist / composer student who is into your work with Henry T. ---best--tom v
I was just reading an interview with Damión Reid at heavymetalbebop, and he mentioned "Sonor drums and my custom snare and Meinl cymbals." It's an excellent interview; I recommend it highly.
Great sound and playing... I think McLaughlin used a flat top with a mag pup and tube amp on "in a silent way," if I'm not mistaken. Great stuff...lots of people can play "up" and "loud" free, it takes a little more to pull it off convincingly slowly and quietly...
@rhythmjunky80 I agree with you it's exciting stuff. I just found out about Damion and..wow!
Well as always...with good equipment you don't need all that much for a great sound. The volume pedal makes a lot of sense of course to control the overall volume. Btw...no problems with feedback? I have a 1939 Gibson L7 but gave up on trying to amplify it...too much of a hassle so I only play it on the occasional acoustic gig. Yesterday I finished listening to "This Brings Us to Volume 2" ...... the guitar sound (and music of course) on there is breath taking too. Thanks. Joep van Leeuwen
@S0What01 The pickup first goes into a sunrise preamp (small like a DI), then a volume pedal, then the amp. That amp is a 1965 Vibroluxe Reverb. There is a little reverb, maybe the springs, or maybe a Holy Grail pedal.
Amazing sound! So the Sunrise pickup goes straight into the amp (what kind?), no reverb or anything else?
wat kinda kit is that??
really awesome stuff. never heard liberty play before.
aha ,,,das ist super ZEMTRASH
Fantastic. Very inspirational.
Great stuff, Liberty. Glad to hear and see you're still out there playing!
very nice
Should be called the Damion Reid Trio
I am completely blown away by this. Those unison lines are monstrous!
Its a 1956 LG1. Not a super collectable model, but its a really nice sounding guitar. Lately I've been using a Collings 01.
very cool, wouldn't be something I'd listen to frequently but quality rears it's head in many places. perhaps surprised to hear this played on a gibson acoustic but i like the sound better than what i would expect to hear from say an L4, that's just personal preference. As a bit of a guitar nut i'm wondering what model that is. Looks like The King of Flatops size body but J45 appointments, fretmarkers and such.......anyway - thanks , enjoyed this
So why hasn't Manfred Eicher signed you to ECM yet?! Peace.
thanks for the compliments! I use phosphor bronze strings, and a sunrise pickup.
Are you using nickel wound strings or acoustic guitar strings? What kind of pickup is that? I really love your sound. I just ordered the Zooid CD so I'm looking forward to hearing it. Very inspiring guitar playing man. Thanks.
Absolutely wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
great.....please post some more....
Nice stuff...thanks for posting Liberty....
A beautiful work which make me think of Derek Bailey meets smooth jazz with few influences from John Coltrane/Lush Life and Ben Monroe.Very nice.
What is the name of this song? Is it on any of his albums? Great stuff!
In smaller comunities counts very much to have the right person for the certain job. Now,we live in globalism.Everyone is underrated since the '90s,who is not known,or rich enough to sart with.Talent, knowledge does not matters.
This has to be the weirdest song I've ever heard, but that's expected from Liberty Ellman and Vijay Iyer. Those guys are nuts!
Wow, Liberty, that's great. Is there any chance you can post more? There's so little Henry Threadgill video footage out there, and he deserves to be well represented on sites like this...
thanks - yes, thats the general setup for me with that band. but a good bit of the distortion you hear is coming from the cameras microphone unfortunately. I usually have a 99% clean sound with that setup.
Derrek Phillips is so underrated.
awesome, thanks for posting this!
