Kmart Deluxe (Top Union) Ceiling Fan
This is a 52” Kmart Deluxe Ceiling Fan in Gunmetal with polished brass trim. Judging by the overall style of the fan, it was their inspiration from the Casablanca Saturn. At some point in the late 80s into the 90s, Kmart had some fan offerings that used a stack motor, this being one of them. It uses a Kontrust KT1000 motor. I never knew about these until videos started unraveling. I absolutely love the sleek Gunmetal finish, for a fan like this it’s just elegant and perfect. Overall I’m really impressed with the performance from this one, it’s really solid. It does have some motor hum along with some wobble, one blade is a little lower, that’s because I was missing one screw for the flywheel, so I ended up using another one that’s a little longer but it works. I think I used that one flywheel screw to hold the downrod to the coupler.
I got this fan from fellow fan collector John Reed (RockinReed97) at Robbie Lawrence’s annual Lehigh Valley PA fan convention of this year. It came in some packaging, but no box. This was one of 8 total fans I brought home that day, and it was a great time being there and meeting some collectors for the first time. The flywheel can adapt 4 or 5 blades, however when it was first found, it had all 5 irons, but only 4 blades. Honestly I like the 4 blade configuration best. At any point if I find a 5th blade or whole new blade set, I’ll see what it does with 5 blades.

I’m not a huge fan of the angled blades either. But when the oil rubbed bronze and brushed nickel models came out, they were the only exceptions. At some point I’d like to figure out if there’s a performance difference with the angled blades.

Yep, same fans, but the fan in the kitchen had been removed due to the saggy blades.
