A lot of broadcasters have done it in the past to make a non widescreen show appear widescreen, however it's more of an eye sore.

I googled this to enlighten my fiancé who has no recollection of a Supermarket Sweep. I used to find this show SO EXCITING! I stumbled across the American version on the way and showed him that first, but the music from the English ones and inflatable bananas were key in my memory of SS! I love how every contestant is always soooo happy in the show! :D :D

I think the lack of brand names is due to product placement being pretty much illegal in the UK until 2011.

Haha they call the carts trolleys. The US versions music is so much better. I wonder why there are no brands mentioned.

I'am from the U.S and they are the same but different at the same time. Like in the beginning you get a minute an thirty seconds in the U.S. but mostly the same. :-)
