I stumbled across the American version on the way and showed him that first, but the music from the English ones and inflatable bananas were key in my memory of SS! I love how every contestant is always soooo happy in the show! :D :D
I'am from the U.S and they are the same but different at the same time. Like in the beginning you get a minute an thirty seconds in the U.S. but mostly the same. :-)

A lot of broadcasters have done it in the past to make a non widescreen show appear widescreen, however it's more of an eye sore.

I think the lack of brand names is due to product placement being pretty much illegal in the UK until 2011.
