I have an alto sax, play by ear, lots of practice is needed. I’m a beginner, do not know how to read music. Love Charlie Parker.
Porq aún oimos al pájaro🤔 Será lo etéreo del sonido De la sincronía descompssada O solo el gusto de reafirmar q somes un chingo Y seremos más... Tiempo me la pelas
PHIL LIVES!
John H Of course this is bebop. (Did you mean to say explicit?). But at the highest levels of creativity artists transcend idiom and generate ideas that seem to stand alone, communicating meaning that is too deep to captured in terms of a specific idiomatic space. This is happening here spades. Either you hear it or you don’t. But if you do, the only word that seems to capture it is “trancendant” .
I agree that this arguably the best version of this tune. No, not because of it not being a “perfectly precessions performance”. That’s irrelevant. Bird at his best displayed a depth of melodic invention that to my ears remains unsurpassed. At his best-and usually only in live recordings-he seems to break free of idiom, fewer devices and more free flowing exploration of melodic shapes, ideas and thematic interconnections within his solos. When he plays like this-as he does here-his timeless high genius comes out in BOLD. If this solo had been played today in a contemporary setting it would still blow everyone away. For more playing on this level listen to him with Bud Powell and Navarro on that incredible night at Birdland. Listen especially to street beat for example. This is once in a generation genius that, like here, entirely transcends idiom.
Bird is the Word
Billy Kilson is sublime.
I've been reading "How to listen to Jazz" I had no idea these had been found, just couldn't believe it when I found out, I read about them in "Bird Lives" and assumed they were still missing - Mind BLOWN!!!!!!!
Nice to hear Bird stretching, versus how the recording studio forced him to condense everything into one/two choruses.
Always worth another listen, this is transcendent Parker. It’s an example of one of those occasions where bird breaks free of bebop, and almost of jazz itself. He is in a very definite specific groove here (perhaps inspired by having just heard a vocalist) where he is exploring all kinds of melodic ideas that somehow all seem to originate from a very specific point in idiomatic space. The deep genius in some of these phrases is that they seem to suggest entire improvisatory voices, idioms and styles unto themselves. And then just like that they are gone as bird, to my knowledge, never played the tune with this particular feel on any other occasion. Joseph P Cannavo
I don't see how he's breaking free from bebop here. He's speaking implicit bebop

Pure brilliance
Bird is transcendent in this absolutely beautiful performance of All the Things You Are. A beautiful photo of Charlie Parker would have been so beautiful instead of the photo of a recording machine.
Extraordinary
A sailor must have walked in around 4:50, bird breaks into Popeye the Sailor.
4:03 actually
Where's the rest?

Who is singing? Bird is amazing, but the singing is pretty good too!
Sounds like he's got that Earl Coleman thing going (Eckstine lite).
Kenny Hagood is the vocalist
thanks for sharing
Wayne Krantz's solo on this is like the best thing ever
he is no Wayne hahahaha
Thank you for posting this!
The DB sessions are a treasure, and yes this is one of the best versions of this tune I have heard him play. It's shame he didn't record it more. Bird is in a very sensual smooth mood here absolutely delicious playing. Cuts like this show why he remains unsurpassed as an improviser, not in a merely historical sense but an absolute sense that transcends time.
The best version ever. Just listen and you'll hear why! Find me and I promise to explain why I say this! Blow Bird, BLOW!
Because it's not a perfectly precise performance? Because it's pure improvising and "we will see how it will go"? Because you can hear the New York's night life in an amateur recording?
A chaque fois que je cherche ce titre je tombe sur ce DOLAN, et ça me fait trop rire :D
just unreal
This was a fantastic concert in the early days of CP's Underground. I seem to remember that Next Best Western was the opener and Taborn had some problems with the keys on his Rhodes that led to Wayne and Nate playing a wild duo section lasting some 10 minutes (I think) but not the least bit boring at any time. Really enjoyed when Wayne was a fixture of the group. I knew CP and WK were monsters but CT and NS have blown me away several times since. Thanks for the upload.
Merzi :D
Great!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!
Enorme !!! Super qualite de son. Merci beaucoup . Chris potter est vraiment un pur genie .
