Every time we read stories, especially those in the Bible, we can often miss what may be going on behind the scenes to get from one point to another point. This video series is designed to help us look into what the characters may have gone through to get to the next scene we read. I pray this video resource helps you.

How often do we overlook what can be between the lines. These videos are meant to help think about the story in a more meaningful way to help us see the character of God and the character of the people more.

Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you for this Pastor Ryan...
Great job Ryan! So helpful.
Thanks! That illustration has helped me a lot over the past few years!
Doesn't it say he was taken up into the clouds? Is Jesus's ascension "up" supposed to be taken literally or metaphorically? It reads like it should be taken literally and I find this very troubling since we know that heaven isn't up in the sky but I'm not sure the gospel writers knew this. Jesus going "up" would seem quite normal to people who thought there was a different realm above them that he went to. There's no need for a theatrical reason why he would ascend up and then dematerialize once he got out of sight. He's already been raised from the dead so he didn't need to perform even more miracles you wouldn't think. Couldn't he just dematerialize on the ground? That would be convincing enough. If we take it as some type of metaphor then what else is? The physical resurrection? Things start to get a bit messy picking out what is literal and what isn't. Jesus physically going up has always troubled me for as long as I can remember.
Black Sabbath : thanks for the comment! Here is another way I’ve been thinking about Jesus’s ascension: “I used to picture the ascension like most people, Jesus floating off in the clouds and disappearing into the sky as he was on his way to heaven - a far-off location. But, as I have paid closer attention to the scripture, I now realize this was written in a similar form as when Moses went up the mountain to receive the law from God. Moses “ascended” the mountain and went into the clouds. This means Moses walked up the mountain to where the clouds were, and he was not seen for 40 days. This is what I now picture. Jesus goes up the mountain and the clouds come down upon him and he disappears. Why clouds? What do they mean? Clouds throughout scripture represented the fullness, the glory of God. When Moses was in the clouds, he was in the full glory of God. Jesus, when the clouds surrounded him, entered into the realm of heaven to be where he could reign forever.”
Black Sabbath. “Up” is relative depending where we are on earth. I think the scripture is saying Jesus went (up) to a higher realm...the heavenly realm to reign from heaven.
Amen! 🕊🙏 and this song is encouraging and illustrates the victory over Goliath! ua-cam.com/video/PcafP5l21SI/v-deo.html
