Our Films Were Copied Years Ago—And It Cost a Fortune!
In this video, you’ll see a side-by-side comparison of two film transfers. On the left is a transfer done years ago by another company and copied to DVD, while on the right is the same film, transferred by us directly from the original reels. If your family once used a cine camera, this might interest you. Many customers come to us with old VHS tapes or DVDs of family films, asking to move them to a modern format. I always ask if the original reels are still stored away, as working directly from the film gives far better results. For this transfer, we cleaned and scanned the original reels, enhancing them with advanced video editing techniques similar to those used by major studios. The result captures 53% more of the film’s image, with stabilized playback, richer colors, and sharper details. If you’ve had your films transferred in the past, it might be time to revisit them. Get in touch to bring your family memories to life with the care and quality they deserve.

Here's a short 60ft reel of 9.5mm film from the 1930s, produced by Hal Roach. The film, titled "Fun in Freetown," features the beloved "Our Gang" series. Freetown is portrayed as the jolliest place on earth, with no grown-ups except for a balloon man. When Farina arrives, everyone rushes to celebrate her, and the balloon man is exceptionally generous...with disastrous results. Background from W...

Newcastle Fairground, 1953: A Look Back in Time
Originally a 1952 colour cartoon made in Britain by John halas and joy batchelor. They were the same people to make Britain’s first animated film ANIMAL FARM in 1953.
I started watching and was laughing out loud within thirty seconds! Thanks!
Looks like an early one from the 20s. 1927 or 28 perhaps?
This is great! Thanks for posting.
Had the pleasure of knowing this man he was a all round good guy he was allways so enthusiastic and encouraged me lots and his knowledge of comedy legends was amazing I still miss him and his biscuits. By that I mean he sit down with a cup of tea and we eat biscuits and drink lots of tea and talk comedy miss you mike so happy to find this video
@@bobbyroberts3837 You are exactly the reason that I put this video here for others to watch. Not only to enjoy his humour, but to learn a bit more about the man from those that knew him.
Lovely video and great quality.
Railway mentality , if there's one person on a train we will have to charge them for a full train, and throw more money at the driver !
That stupid rattling sound ruined the video. 👎🏻
There’s a flood warning today💀
I was the safety PO on bow cat #2 during the time this was filmed.
Lovely film; bloody awful voiceover.
The fish market building shown about 1: 41 was knocked down in the late sixties, my father was a bricky and I joined him one weekend as he was clearing out old brickwork. There was lots of copper wiring and copper nails in the woodwork, with permission I stripped a lot out and made myself some money. I can still remember the overriding smell of fish in everything you touched mixed with a dirty black smokey smell. soon after the remains quickly disappeared.
Fantastic footage. Went to the games yesterday, was brilliant.
It’s nice see somewhat rare footage of the E-2A/B Hawkeye without the pointy nose of the C model. My dad to 2 cruises with this airwing CVW-9 as a pilot with VAW-112 aboard USS Enterprise 1967-69.
Its so flat the landscape in Selby too.
Amazing footage - the set up was pretty much the same until the 1990s when they changed from Saturday to Sunday, losing much of the identity of the original gathering. Crieff was also unique, that runners ran clockwise , right hand in, but they now run left hand in. I competed often at Crieff, losing the Open Mile on the tape in a sprint finish. Any more Crieff please?
Thanks for this. Different generation of planes. The USS America visited NZ in 1968.✈️👍🇳🇿
My dad was an electrician who worked on the A-6 bombing systems for VA-165 during this cruise. He talks about it all the time, especially the stops in all the ports. I was a year old, and I still have the tiny jacket he bought for me while in Japan. He has dozens of slides of photographs that he took, including the flyover by that Russian bomber. My dad says the ship was often sent places that most people don't know about.
My dad was on the America with VA-165 (an Intruder squadron) for this cruise at the time of this film. Thank you for sharing this!
17:00 is either Indipendence or Kitty Hawk.
I was aboard USS Kitty Hawk in the 2000's and even though the airplanes have changed, the flight deck operations have continued to be the same. Even the replenishment with the USS Camden was the same!!!
Very nice! I've read many books regarding the Vietnam War, some of which were written by Naval Aviatiors and Naval Flight Officers (Naval Flight Officers are aircrew, but not pilots). Although I'm familiar with operations on the flight deck, it was nice to see what those staterooms really looked like and how cramped they were. In many of the books, they talk about them buying all the new stereo-equipment that they could when their carrier(s) visited Japan, and on top of one of the cupboards, you can see such a stereo. This made it all come to life for me, so thank you so much for sharing it here on youtube!
Fucking amazing
A brilliant archive of local history. Thomas Storey were based in Stockport and this footage was recorded on Edgeley reservoirs with Sykes bleach works (demolished in the 1980's) in the background and Stockport County's football ground in the distance in the other direction. In the film "A bridge too far " about the battle around Arnhem in WWII , Michael Caine's character described the Bailey Bridge as " that engineering marvel which is the envy of the civilised world " and that is a spot on observation.
This video is incredible for me. Thomas Storey was a world class bridge constructor at the time of this film, and an incredible innovator with inventions such as the uniflotes shown in the film. They gained the exclusive global rights for building Bailey Bridges and also employed Bailey himself as a consultant. The company had several sites in Stockport including Brinksway and Tiviot Dale, not far from where this footage has been filmed. The actual location of this demonstration is on the reservoirs at Edgeley, close to the Stockport County football ground - which is visible in the background of some of the shots by way of its tall floodlight towers. Also visible are Sykes bleach works with its 333 feet tall chimney (all demolished and replaced by houses), St Mark’s Church (now demolished), Alexandra Park playground, Dale St and Berlin Road among many other local places. Seeing the helicopter land at the start of this film has solved a mystery for me. I’ve found many historical photographs of Skyes works and chimney - one of which shows the helicopter. I never understood why there was a helicopter at Sykes until I watched this film. Amazing to see this area as it was many decades ago. The reservoirs are still there, as is the park and the football ground. Thanks for sharing this incredible historic artefact. It made my day.
I'm glad you found it so interesting. I will pass on your comment to the family of Thomas Storey, who brought me this film to digitise. Andrew at 8mm2Digital.
I’m sorry I never visited at the time! Thanks for making this available.
I spent hours sitting in the cockpit and the other positions; I think in the late 60s imagining flying over Germany at night. The Seafire collapsed with a broken back before the museum was closed, I have a memory of the Lanc flying out but people are telling me I am mistaken.
You might well know this but there is a relatively new museum at Blackpool Airport called Hanger 42 the Spitfire Experience. Well worth visiting it deals in depth with the whole wartime history of the area.
@@johnappleby405 Thanks John, I have been a few times since they started and to a couple of their off-site displays.
А где звук?
Its a silent 8mm film that ha no sound with it,
Notice how few cars and busses put there lights on in bad weather
This seems pretty creepy now.
Glorious! HS2 with semaphores and steam. And the entry into old Snow Hill was the cherry on the cake. I'll bet the driver thought the Pullman was a fair exchange for his old milk float😉
I think I might change the title of this video to your initial words. Thank you for making me laugh out loud.
@@8mm2digital cheers! I'm very flattered ☺
I saw this film when it first came out and thought that it was better than the "London to Brighton in 5 minutes" film of a few years before. The music "Perpetuum Mobile" was an inspired choice. A great reminder of when trains were comfortable. My favourite similar film, though is "Intercity 1250"
"when trains were comfortable." - wasn't it 1st Class only service ? Not sure 2nd Class at that time was especially luxurious, but at least you could open the ruddy windows & have control of your compartment, say. Subject to argument ... though they were rare. Good ol' 323s maintaining that tradition - not just about the 323 sound! 🙂
@@daffyduk77Second class was comfortable in those days, not just on the blue Pullmans. It was possible to get a good meal and the coffee poured from pots too. I did manage to have one trip from Cardiff to London on the South Wales Pullman, but not a return trip due to cancellation- they were not very reliable trains.
@@MervynPartin I've a number of good memories of 2nd class travel in those days, less congestion, comprehensible ticket pricing, better connectivity than today (even after Beeching). Food was not on that list unless money was no object. More space in the guard's van for pushbikes, & the "compartment" coaches were good if the train was quiet especially. Adjustable train heating in the compartments, although the steam & elec. heating took 10-15 mins to heat up & then could get too hot (took some iterative adjusting). Loads more memories
great docu-film thanks
super document thanks
Driver looked like a milkman or park-keeper ! He wouldn't want to have to handle oily coupling stuff in event of calling out "International Rescue" ! Those clothing styles ! 🙂
If I remember correctly, the Midland Pullman drivers had a battledress style uniform which looked smarter than the milkman clothing in this movie.
The good old days. When a train seat wasn't as comfortable as sitting on an ironing board.
I prefer the new trains, the overall comfort is much better
Super 8 or regular 8?
I dd these films so many years ago and they were all returned to the Holben family that I can't honestly tell you what format they were. Super 8 was launched in 1965, and as they were transiting through Japan he may well have purchased a Super 8 camera at that time.
Some erroneous info given abour the Vigilante. I served in RVAH-12 on that deployment. In 1970 it the vigilante was designated as RA5C. Its role was as a rconnisence platform. Photo and Radar mapping. Prestrike and post strike assement, of Vietnam bombing runs. Capable of high speed low altitude runs. In prestrlke runs it took the enemy by surprise. However in the post strike runs the antiaircraft and Sam missiles were hor The Vigilante had the highest aircraft loss ratio of the Vietnam War.The Vigilante started out as a high speed Nuclear strike bomber designated A-3. The Navy switched to sub marine launched Nuclear missles and changed the Vigilantes role. Capable of near Mach 2 speeds the Vigilante held high altitude records for years. I served as a PH3 (Photographers Mate) in the photo line shop. Working on the Flight deck during launches and recoveries. It was retired in 1975. Too expensive to maintain, took up too much deck area as one of the largest carrier air frames. Also the development of high quality satellite imaging. development helped seal its fate. Some examples survive in aircraft museums.
Thank you for the most comprehensive response from someone who was there. Much appreciate your perspective on this film. Andrew
my dad was on there from 69-71... MM Voegtle
he always talked about the shell back initiation and now I get to see it.... thank you
Gone but never forgotten. Was it a backwards step?
Smooth roads with no potholes….🎉🎉😢
This aircraft may be a Bristol Bristol Beaufighter with the then secret AI Radar.
I'l love to see any more film of the Coronation parade in Newcastle .. my mum was in part of it dressed as bride, walking in front of several similarly dressed women and a fire engine. I only have one still photo of it
Regretfully this is the full and complete film and everything I have from that day. Andrew
a car in the 1960s cannot compare, with to days cars, what steam engines would be around to day if they continued to develop them they thew the baby out with the bath water.
A young Peter Jackson and family in this film, around 8 years later he would of been called up for WW2
Im glad that you recognise him in this short film clip. There are a number of his films here with him and his wife in later years.
Commoners take the air in museums and horseback 😂😂😂
This footage is all backwards, is there any way of making this right way?
Ah, an astute observation! It appears that the preceding 140 viewers may have missed the rather intriguing fact that our talented dancers were, in fact, performing their mesmerizing routine in reverse. I must express my gratitude for bringing this matter to our attention. Fear not, for I shall promptly remove this particular rendition and, with a gracious nod to your discerning eye, upload the corrected version where our dancers elegantly spin in the intended direction. Your keen eye for detail is most appreciated, and we endeavor to provide you with the finest and most enchanting content. Shame about the London buses at the end but I recognised many places in & around Bradford. Thornbury depot on leeds road, city centre thornton road st georges hall sunbridge road & duckworth lane. All early seventies when I was a small boy!!!
The first part is most probably Thailand
