I am passionate about supporting people and books that make a difference. I work with SMEs and entrepreneurs to make them stand out from the competition and grow their businesses: clarifying strategy and creating effective content marketing, including print and ebooks. I also offer executive coaching and consulting services to publishers.
After a 22-year career in trade and scholarly publishing working with major publishers such as Oxford University Press and Macmillan, during which I pioneered digital publishing, I trained as a coach and set up Alison Jones Business Services and the Practical Inspiration Publishing imprint in 2014 to establish a new model: partner publishing.

Episode 439 - The Sky is No Limit with Per Wimmer
'That's my goal here, is to hopefully provide an inspirational story that can be a catalyst for the reader to go out and do amazing things.'
Per Wimmer has spent his life soaring to new heights, metaphorically in global finance and quite literally as an astronaut. It's a fascinating mix, but the two spheres have more in common than you might think.
When you've lived a life so full of variety and adventure, it's a double bind: this is exactly the kind of life worth writing about, and yet how do you choose what to include, and how do you link it all together? We talk about the challenge of making sense of one's own life in order to create sense for others.
And how do you give people a reason to read, beyond the mere act of goggling? Per's solution: catalyse inspiration and action in everyone. Winning Business Journey Book of the Year at the Business Book Awards 2024 meant everything to him, as it was a sign he'd achieved just that.
(He's not one for being constrained by limits, and he's not done yet; this is just Volume One.)

Passive income-it's the dream, right? Earning money while you sleep, basking in the golden glow of financial freedom. Sadly, it's not quite that simple. Award-winning author and digital marketing expert Kate Toon,...

'It's that place of, you know, because it's your business and your livelihood, having to say, "Come and buy my thing because I'm great. I'm great at it. Look at me, look at all these great things I can do for my clients." And oh my goodness, that's difficult.' And throughout that time he's watched entrepreneurs gra...
Episode 434 - Learning to promote a book with Lucy Ryan
Переглядів 1,5 тис.Місяць тому
'The writing is joyful, more or less. It's painful, but it's also joyful. The marketing of it is much harder.' Dr Lucy Ryan's book Revolting Women touched a nerve worldwide: many women can relate all too well to the perfect storm of challenges facing midlife women at work, and everyone has an opinion on it. Which took a bit of getting used to. In this week's conversation, part of my series talk...

Turns out, that's not what the reader needed. (And it wasn't just her editor who told ...

Your discussion about understanding one’s target audience and leveraging multiple platforms for book promotion was incredibly insightful. I particularly appreciated how you emphasized aligning promotional efforts with audience needs-it’s such a powerful approach to navigating the challenges of book marketing. Hearing this inspired me to reflect on how targeted strategies have made a difference in my own work.
Pretty good Andy! I’m enjoying your book
It’s weird cause i just was recommended this book which i bought
Well done on conducting a good interview with RR, you're listening skills are good. His point on Focus is well made, and also the creative nature of the process.
What a great idea, virtual hecking, alternative prompted questions.
Genius, isn't it!?
I'm from another country but I came to your video looking for the book, the end of the video was very strong. I have my own business and 3 months ago I lost a client who was a large part of the revenue precisely because of the personal relationship, sometimes I try to "repair" but unfortunately the wear and tear is done and it doesn't do much good... I was looking for book content and a video of 1 minute convinced me, I need it now hahaha thanks for the video
GREAT JOB in this podcast, Alison and wonderful interview with Michelle
Magnificent conversation. Congrats.
Thanks for this video,it really saved me 🙏
Great conversation!
Thanks for having me on the podcast Alison!
You are so welcome - thanks for being such an awesome guest!

Trust and self-belief. Yes, I can relate to the absence of these. I suggest that temperament (MBTI) plays a big role in giving oneself permission to 'feel' smart and capable, particularly in the presence of others. I only began to feel this while in my late 50's in an MSc program where my Academic Advisor had the same temperament as I do - INFP. He understood me. This freed me from trying to make myself understood, thus permitting me to just focus on learning.
Thanks for making this inspirational video on the playbook “The Life Brief” How exactly can you find what really matters to you? I’m truly inspired and liked this video plus subscribed!
Glad it was helpful!
10 seconds in and all I want to do is read that book. Thanks for the post :)
With diction and clarity like Alison's I could forgive her anything. What a superb person.
Masterclass
conversation is very good
Business Book is a Very importent book
I love the way you read ❤
Proud of you, bro
?
Brilliant conversation to listen in on.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you a lot! True gem. Please send Richard warm greeting from random strategist on the internet, his earnest and grateful extramural student. I hope some day I'd have a chance to speak to him live.
Two brilliant minds...the world is a better place with these amazing humans in it. I'm not a writer but whenever I'm around these guys they inspire me to think and read better.
Couldn't agree more!
good interaction program
it's very helpful for me☺️
Is the book different from Scott Adam's "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big: Kind of the Story of My Life"?
Yes - more of a personal angle. But both are well worth reading!
@@AlisonJones Thanks!
Thank you for that read
Brilliant.
Excellent interview and very interesting topic. Thank you so much for your time and effort.
He's WONDERFUL, isn't he - thanks for this comment!

Looks like you have the first video on UA-cam about Richard's new book - with the author himself! Great coup. I placed a pre-order for the book at the weekend and given the quality of his last book I can't wait to read this one.
It's excellent, John - I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
This is an excellent conversation. Definitely worth watching. It sent me back to my writing with more focus.
Glad you enjoyed it, Cathie!

Great interview, which made me think both about the topic itself ("enoughness") and about the processes of writing and publishing. I particularly loved the phrase "the charm of abstractness" to describe the book someone is thinking about writing, rather than a book which is being made real through the process of writing. Also Becky used the word "socialising" in relation to once her book was out in the world. It made me think of how we socialise puppies, but of course that is an ongoing process. The thing about a book is that we can't modify its behaviour post-publication (unless we go to 2nd/ 3rd edition etc). So the process of writing, revising, editing, honing is like front-loading all that puppy training. It has to be done before the press rolls! Lots to think about here. I've been thinking a lot about the interplay between "what is enough" and ambition recently, so a book I'm going to have to read!
Glad you enjoyed it Sheila and yes - SO much food for thought here!
