Electro-Voice 664 Demo
Corrections!
3:30 - I say "Shure 666" but I meant EV 666 of course.
8:47 - I say "end-address condenser microphones" but I mean dynamics.
Should also note that I have the input gain cranked to +70dB on the Golden Age Pre-73 Jr, and output gain at about 65%.

Should be pretty obvious when the mic switches so there are no text overlays indicating when that happens.

I was thinking about not including the make & model of the mic in the video title, but I didn't think that would help anyone looking for a "review" (not that this is one) of this mic for this use case. The audio you hear in the video is processed live using a combination of analog outboard equipment and DSP in a MOTU UltraLite mk4 going directly into Audition, then laid into Premiere for editin...

Fully acknowledging that the RE20 does NOT sound that great in this video because of the processing I did to it while wearing my in-ears, which made me cut way more lows than I would have otherwise.

QSO with K4FTU on 20M / ~10W / Richardson, TX ➔ Marvin, NC This video was recorded on September 18, 2021. This was literally the first time I put this antenna together, set the coil for 20M, and I made a few contacts within 15 minutes. I had no idea that the Texas QSO Party was happening on this weekend, so I think I got lucky getting a many contacts as I did on the first try, but I have contin...

Very useful video! Thanks for sharing this
Hello you have a super good microphone..I would like to ask you the black XLR wire angle.. where you buy it.
Nice Reverb score! The near indistructable "Buchanan Hammer" Variable-D mic is great for tracking electric guitar and often on tom toms and kick drum. I dug mine out earlier today. It has the more modern switch badge.
I have no idea about voice-over, but the Heil PR-30 is the best floor tom mic I have ever used.
@@steverok67 Yep I can totally see that! I would even put it in a kick. I sold it because while it’s a great mic I didn’t like it on my voice.
I can't send a message to the saved contact, it shows on the display that it was sent, but it doesn't reach the other radio. Do you know what it could be?
Hi !! Greetings from Argentina !! How can I send and receive data over_the_air with two arduino and two Baofeng BF999S ? Thanks !!!!!!
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
Ca u try texting using a dmr repeater with scenario tyt radio to tyt radio
Thanks for the video. You presented it well. Mac
it's $99 on Amazon. The original is $109. Damn.
Quickest easier explanation! Thank you
I sometimes wonder what my voice sounds like to the person on the other end. Now I know. (ha-ha)
I have a 2015 435i convertible and wonder how I can mount the antenna without it interfering with the top operation.
Just listened to the part about the straps on the sides, they are for compressing the bag (it is designed to fit in a locker or under a desk, etc) it is also designed with staying slim line and being able to evac without bumping into everything. You can since it all in tighter, especially if you have more open space from loss of consumables. Hard for me to imagine cutting straps off a bag that costs this much,. (tossed you a sub while I was at it too)
Nicely done! I too have had this bag (coyote color) in my Amazon cart for a while. I actually got one second hand, dirt cheap off fb marketplace a little while back. I was toying around with making a go box since I recently got an FT-891 as part of a larger overall deal from a guy who bought everything for a go-box, but a serious tragedy in his life made him decide to abandon the hobby :( I wound up with nearly everything I need to build a decent go-box, but wanted something I could take with me on work trips and not look like someone on a no-fly list with a pelican case or the massive roll around box the guy I got my stuff from had planned to use. I started fitting it all together in different bags, nothing felt right. Also, I did not want to give up a backpacking pack for this purpose. I got the Hazard 4 used, started mocking it up, and am in almost the same configuration as you are! I looked this bag up with various ham phrases and found out I was nowhere near the first to come up with this idea lol. I started wanting to get more shape retention and padding for the gear. I was thinking to make a kydex or thermomoldable plastic compartment for the interior of the bag when I came across a page called "into the woods", the guy there used the Hazard 4 Evac Photo Insert. I literally just ordered it. It fits right inside your bag, comes with a variety of dividers/padding for cameras and lenses. I am no longer looking at thermoplastics ;) Again, great looking setup. I will get some videos together of mine as I build it, hope to get input from others who have already learned things "the hard way" so I do not have to. Take care and keep up the videos (wish I had seen this a year or more ago, my kit would be a lot closer to done right now)
This mic seems to be the worse version of this Temu u87 clone which has a 5v power. I've seen the 48v u87 clone which had better (and double) circuit board. Although I haven't found a review for that yet.
ua-cam.com/video/WjX9VuliJjg/v-deo.html
I think they discontinued this mic. Cant find it anywhere.
i have the same one but relly good
Great solution. What are your thoughts on every “x” years, these mic’s have to get their internal foam replaced because it disintegrates?
It sounds great from my end of it. U have totally shat on your opinions for that microphone, but to me from listening to it through your review it sounds great like WoH i am shocked at how good it sounds considering!! I hope people do not get put off by your review. Your way too negative for it in my opinion! Bad review great mike for the price!
Sorry but it's crap. The only thing I would buy this for is possibly a donor body for a better quality diy U87 mic build.
Even if you have one in a stand in your studio at least it looks impressive 😂
Did you have to remove the PIN on the RE20 to fit it through?
Nope! The plastic part that actually touches the mic body is in two parts, so there are two gaps/channels that you can slide the pin through, and the pin ends up perfectly situated on the other side of that when you rotate a little.
I can't hear the noise your complaining about. At least not from this side. Maybe it was just coming through your monitor ear buds.
What replacement cord would you recommend?!
Anything with Neutrik connectors and Belsen or Mogami cable, but honestly some of the stuff from Cable Matters or J&D on Amazon are pretty decent.
how is it 4 dollars its 34
It was a special offer
Nice. I'm wondering what a dentist would do, then adding EQ.
does the mic actually stay in place or is it loose?
It clamps securely! Not the least bit loose. Also, there is an inner plastic ring so it's not just a set screw jamming down onto your mic like the EV 309A mount, although I think that mount does have some kind of little cap on the end of the set screw.
How can I get
Can go get wrong with Analog equipments
instument recoring
If they offer me this for the 4 bucks, I'm taking them up on it!!! LOL!!! It sounds fine on this end of the listening chain (my desktop good, not great speakers). In the booth, I'd probably be hearing the noise you do. I do like the proximity effect on it and that might be useful to me. The plosive thing is concerning but as you say talking a bit to the side or with a good pop filter might work. Again at 4$ I'd try it out, too!!! LOL! I've got several good mikes so I'd just be playing with it to see if that noise can be taken out of the chain. Thanks for this video!!!!!!!
Thanks for your opinion and views on this mic. I don’t know if I should buy a gooood mic for like 200> or something like this. I use very heavy processing on my voice anyways (EQ compression, reverb) yk the jizz.
defo get a at 2020 or rode nt1a I started with nt1a and upgraded but the nt1a is really good
@@lilmos7842 Yep, I would not buy this mic to actually use. I ended up donating it to goodwill! The AT2020 is a super solid choice. I have a 2035 which costs a bit more and sounded a touch better in reviews, but the differences are super slight. I got my 2035 on eBay for $40.
not bad proximity effect - kinda hissy, the hiss literally goes along with the signal no way to turn it down it's coming from the mic like that
Once you do a little bit EQ working actually sounds kind of decent, I mean I guess 45 bucks as long as you're willing to put they were on your editor and run some plug-ins, that's really not too bad for five bucks, sounded pretty crappy before you started playing with the settings but not bad after a couple of tweaks
I'm not saying that mic sounds good or would be usable for professional recording purposes, but it sounds better than I expected for less than four dollars ha ha!
I got it free. Imma check it out and review next. 😬
For $4, you can't beat that. You can clean up that noise with RX10 and be fine. That's extremely impressive.
You can even remove that self-noise for free with a VST3 plugin GOYO installed in your digital audio workstation.
"Made in China, obviously" LOL. But for 4 bucks, it's kind of impressive.
Hell. I’m just impressed that it arrived! And with a cable?! Nuts! They say don’t download the app onto your phone though.
Best decision I've ever made tbh. Money still in bank but I can't stop ordering stuff lol Its legit believe it or not but addictive so watch out . Might buy all kinds of ish for a fraction of the price in the mall. Temu is probably putting people out of business from the insane amount of quality products they have available, primarily clothing and electronics as well as other accessories you just have to have. 🤣
Couldn't get a call sign
DİLİ NASIL TÜRKCE YAPABİLİRİM YARDIM EDİN NE İNDİRİP KURACAĞIM
How easy did you find it to cut off the 'tongue' sticking out between the set screw plates??
Pretty simple. A Dremel cutoff wheel was enough. I have since switched to a Comet RS-720 though which doesn't have this problem and is a much nicer mount.
DUDE!! I need to know how you customized the voice ID! "All your Base is belong to Us" THAT is AWESOME!! How did you do it?
Haha Allison (the voice of Asterisk) says it! I found it in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds There are some other kinda off-the-wall recordings in there. You can customize the announcements following the advice here: lists.hamvoip.org/pipermail/arm-allstar/2019-September/013100.html Because I am lazy, I just strung all the sound files together in Audacity (freeware audio editing program) and then converted it to a GSM file and put it under /etc/asterisk/local/node-id Some other wild ones: ua-cam.com/video/Zq2TS5lVHmE/v-deo.html
@@adamcycle AWESOME!! Thanks Man. I just sent you an email too LOL
Am I bother you for one more thing? On the Icom do you still have the wiring scheme you used to wire it to the ARA board? I am really needing it. It’s not as straightforward as I had hoped it would be. They use a little bit different terminologies in the Icom diagram.
What model and brand is this?
TYT MD-380
Lol had to watch an advert for that..
I have no control over that and wish they weren't there. I don't get any money from them. It really is stupid for how short the video is.
@@adamcycle crazy
Thank you Adam, I was struggling with that a bit. I also used some blue loctite, as that one small screw coming loose could mean the radio get's away - lol
what are some of the main advantages of this feature? when would it be really valuable to have this ?
Send an address, text when you cant speak..
Need a drip loop, it's amazing how much water will travel along the coax. I learned that the hard way!
Thanks for this video. The latest firmware has a TxMode setting under General Settings. Could you explain what this is. The manual is very cryptic about this. Thanks in advance.
