I think you'll find that all the pots are made of titanium and aluminium . be careful if it says made with 99% pure Titanium. because 99% titanium is what they're mixed with the aluminium
Please NEVER do this!!!!! You are eating micro plastic!!!!!!!!
Boiling water and ziplock plastic equals micro plastic permanently in your body!!! Hard pass!!!!
I'd maybe trust the reusable style dishwasher safe bags for this over the ziplocs. Either way you're boiling plastic, even the coating in your freeze dried meals are plastic coated
I want to try the msr carbon core and big sky tube stakes. I was impressed with the groundhogs but the shape is annoying for packing. The DAC J stakes look promising too, similar holding power as groundhogs but stack nicely
Great video.
No wonder why usa is the most obese country in the world.
On the MSR Groundhogs: I thruhiked the PCT with a Zpacks Duplex. I started off with Mini-Groundhogs for the mainlines and Zpacks carbon fiber stakes on the 4 corners. This worked well i the good soil of Illinois, but out west I occasionally had each type pull out. I upgraded to regular Groundhogs on the mainlines and minis on the corners and had no issues. Maybe pick up some minis and give them a try to save a little weight on the corners.
Agreed. I’ve done about 3500 miles with a Zpacks tent. I’ve started looking into tarps and have come to the conclusion that modern DCF tents are the better option for all of the reasons that you listed. Weight, ease, and protection are all on the tent’s side in most situations.
Hate Leatherman for getting rid of the squirt, the only mini multitool with usable knife and scissors. The victorinox classic kind of sucks
One of the best shorts I’ve seen! Thanks for the info 🙏
Man, I can't wait for your PCT videos!
Doesn't aluminum cause Alzheimer's
Thank you for sharing these helpful tips. 😊
Look at the leatherman micra. It’s got amazing scissors
He is totally correct about 3, like I have 3 of literally everything as it related to gear, you can scale up and down and remain really versatile without cluttering up your life
Nice video!
I disagree that it’s harder to find a good site with the tarp/bivy. Tents require a much larger footprint, and it must be flat, or you get all kinds of problems. With the bivy, you only need a space flat enough for your back, and the tarp can easily be modified around it. Tarps are more versatile that way.
All right right off the bat you made One error in what you said. You forgot to mention the heavier canvas. Listen to way sometime between 3 and 6 lb each depending on their sides
Or you can just sleep on the air mattress ! .... whether it takes 3 days or 3 years or even longer. Eventually you'll just get used to it. In general it's not that big of an issue.
Well done. I prefer the Dog Bone over the PCT stick. The stick only works with thinner line than my Zpacks bear bag kit came with. I always had issues tying that knot, especially after a very long day. They sell the Dog Bone on Garage Grown Gear. They are very inexpensive. Take care
I have the plex solo and I fold it long ways 3 times to the height of the bag. It slides nicely into the bag once fully rolled tight. Fold the long side of the tent so it meets the middle. Repeat for the other long side. Then fold the long side in half. The tent should be as wide as the bags height. Roll up tightly, insert in bag.
If you’re 6’1 or taller (I am 6’2) DO NOT waste a copious amount of money and by this impugned small cramped tent (unless if you want to be uncomfortable and wake up to a wet and soaked foot-box each morning). The end.
Hi, Thanks for the tips, but I'm curious why you wouldn't take the same approach as your down sleeping bag/quilt? Not folded/rolled, just stuffed in the sack one handful at a time.
I have a MSR Whisperlight, a Trangia 27, a diy Caldera cone, and a Jetboil Mighty Mo burner like the Pocket Rocket. The Jetboil let me down on a cold Spring morning. The cone saved the day. I still like my old Coleman single burner dual fuel. It’s heavy but it’s a blowtorch. On short winter trips it’s easier than putting the pump in and out of the MSR fuel bottle.
Perfect gear hacks for easy travel!"
Perfect gear hacks for easy travel!"
Any updates to this setup for this year? Thanks!
I'm with ya on pants, they're the worst! I found that some nice, lightweight leggings/tights whatever you wanna call them work great under a pair of shorts. No restriction in movement, wicks sweat and fast drying, adequate sun protection and also helps a bit with wind which is perfect for when your above treeline. Plus you get to look like a douchebag! 😅
3:52 LMAO right when I was starting to think.. "this video brought to you by the fine folks at Patagonia" 😋
I love tarps too . But I also love my two man , 2 trecking pole ,double wall tent . I have a summer liner 3 season . A winter liner 4 season. It is the Lanshan The tint is tough and it isless than 2lbs . I use trecking poles to hike . I have set it up between trees . Let the gear snobs roar ! It is a great tent .
I think this is a great idea.
It’s really easy, just spend the money on a Western Mountaineering bag and call it a day. It’ll last you 20 years if taken care of. Best bags in the world. But once, cry once.
Black Birkin bag, this is the first good choice I made. I can afford a Kelly bag in any color. If I were 25, I'd probably buy it. But now I consciously don't want to date a woman who has a Kelly and a Birkin. After coming into contact with *luxrul* , I am more willing to invest the money saved in my own growth.
Been looking at the Kuiu Peloton 97 as well! I'm wondering how you've liked it so far?
Love my pelaton.
I live in Arizona and water can be hard to find. Taking food you don't have to hydrate can be beneficial.😊
A sleepmat, bivi or hammock under a tarp is great, but a simple, single pole and reliable tent gives solitude and privacy at the end of a long hike - as we say in the north of England, horses for courses......thanks for opening the debate 😊
Random question; what microphone are you using?
EVERY BACKPACKER CAN LEARN FROM YOUR VIDEOS!!! One stop shop for information.
LOVE THIS...I can so relate!!! You made me chuckle.
Tarp ist the best option for hammock if there are trees. Very versatile regarding steep woodland.
If it’s warm, closed cell foam any day. It’s just more comfortable and easier too.
get a bigger bivy, a chest holster and a pocket 9mm. Load it with 50 gr, 2000 fps Liberty Arms solid copper hp, 450 ft lbs, like a 357, but no more recoil than a hot 380 load.
2GoSystems xl size Trifecta, reflective tyvek bivy, with a plastic 'envelope', works great, with 2 of Amazon's "cut-leaf" camo nets and 2 of their full-body bugnet "suits". I wear these 4 items as longjohns when it's cold, and up in a hammock, I can sleep fine at 34F in wind and rain. Yes, I DO get condensation on the inside of the 'envelope, but the hammock and bivy dont let it touch me. Sometimes, if it's really cold, I use te net hammock nex to my skin when I'm hiking.. It lets my sweat evaporate and not dampen my cammies.
This is the first video I've seen that actually shows these two Zpacks tents being folded up and put back into their stuff sacks. Very helpful. I would like to see these tents during a significant rain and wind storm from INSIDE the tent, perhaps capturing condensation building up on the inside and wind causing a little shower on the inside. I've never seen a video like that, I only hear people say it handled the wind and/or rain just fine, but no experiencial footage of it. I would also like to see actual footage during the rain with you making adjustments inside the tent to mitigate backsplash. These are real life scenarios with these tents that would be interesting to watch.
Really excellent points...streamlining staying organized with time spent to make life easier...
DCF does not taket much space in your backpack. My 0.51 oz Dyneema tarp, 3,1 by 3,6 m (9 by 11 ft) taket less space than my 0,5 litres water bottle. But yoy cant just put the tarp into your backpack. You have to fold sideways, then roll. Tarp rules over tent
I'm really wanting to get a Zpacks Altaplex or Plex Solo, but I'm torn between the two, trying to decide which one I'll be happiest with. I'm concerned that the Plex Solo, with the shorter height will make the back wall lean in more than I'd like which means less headroom. How tall are you and can you describe what it's like for you to sit up in it, like if you're changing cloths or arranging your gear inside your tent? I know condensation is a given with these single wall tents, but I can mitigate by simply using a cloth to wipe it down.
Been there, done that! 😅
