An Average Reader
Приєднався 16 чер 2024
Hello, thank you for visiting my channel!
I am exactly what it says on the tin, 'An Average Reader'. I love reading, I love the tech that helps reading be more convenient or fun and this channel is my way of sharing that love with the rest of my fellow average readers.
I am currently training to be a Mental Health Nurse, I am also living with Crohn's Disease. I am an open book when it comes to either of those topics, so if you are ever wondering if you can ask me a question about Nursing, Crohn's Disease or anything else then by all means go ahead.
I am so grateful to everyone who watches and likes my videos, I love to hear from you guys so keep in touch :)

5 Things I LOVE About My KOBO Libra Colour eReader (After Switching From Kindle)

I decided that instead of doing a "full review" of the Kobo Libra Colour as many excellent channels already have, I would simply list my top five things when it comes to the device. I really adore this advice, and all opinions are my own. Thank you for watching my video. Like and subscribe for more weekly content.
Newbie Booktube Tag - London Book Haul June 2024 Vlog
Переглядів 2912 місяці тому
I enjoyed putting together my first-ever booktube vlog so much that I went and made another one. This one was a lot less planned, as the idea came to me as I was setting off for the cinema. The plan was, once again, to just browse the books, but this time I ended up purchasing five new physical books instead of adding them to my Kobo wishlist. I hope you enjoy another stroll around London with ...
9 Books I Forgot I Own!? - Can You Have Too Many Books?

I wanted to do something straightforward with little editing, given that in London we are being battered, or more so pan-fried, by a heatwave. I was sorting through old clothes this morning to give some of the stuff I don't wear to local charity shops when I stumbled across a few bags of books. I realized they were books that had been tucked away into my wardrobe because we simply do not have t...
Book Hunting in London June 2024 - My First Ever Booktube Vlog

In my first-ever BookTube vlog, I go to two major bookshops in Central London, just off Oxford Street, to get some inspiration for my Kobo Wishlist. The reason I didn't do this as a book haul video is that I just got the new Kobo Libra Color, so I am keen to purchase ebooks at the moment to make the most of it. Going around the shops in person helped me get ideas for the books I wanted to add t...
Switching from Kindle Paperwhite Signature to Kobo Libra Colour - Do I Regret It?

I discuss my experience transitioning from the Kindle Paperwhite Signature to the new Kobo Libra Colour. I am not a tech expert, and this is less of a review and more of a general discussion about my experience switching from Kindle to Kobo. I also talk about some of the concerns I had before making the move. There aren't many technical details about the devices because, as my channel title sug...
I also have a small space and this is a realistic bookshelf. Congrats on your new job!
Hi, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your reviews. They are the best by far in giving a good all round review of the Kobo Libra, especially one that is done after having tried it for a while, unlike the others that were mostly unboxing, as you mentioned in your other video. Your videos have helped me a lot in my decision making. I'm deciding between the Kindle Oasis or the Kobo Libra2, having been a kindle, as well as a Kobo user. I have one question which most likely will help me seal the deal on which to purchase. I'm curious, and i may have missed it, but why did you switch from a kindle Oasis to a Kobo Libra, aside from the colour factor? Thank you.
Have you tried Donna Tartt's The Secret History? That's a great read.
thank you for this video
the slow pages turn is due to the epub format instead of the Kepub format that can be converted from Calibre with the proper Kepub extension..then you will see the difference night and day...Reddit Kobo will explain better
Sup man, just found your channel while looking at Kobo Libra Colour reviews/options from real people/readers. Been watching through a lot of your other videos and got to this one and thought I would wish you a belated happy birthday and say best of luck starting your new job as a mental health nurse next month! Looking forward to your future videos now I am subscriber 634 😁
The Body Keeps the Score is a good one also. I haven't finished it yet but I'm working on it 😊
I highly recommend "good morning, monster" by Catgerine Gildiner. It's by a therapist and her 5 most memorable cases.
This was like going to the bookshop with a mate. Thank you and well done! Good luck with MH nursing
Living in an apartment I have so little space for books that I find I can only keep my absolute favourites... So I've just made the leap into ebooks and have bought myself a Kobo Libra Colour and am really enjoying it so far. Congratulations and good luck with the new job! And that Stitch... adorable!
I also have very little space for books, but somehow that hasn't stopped me. 😅 Thanks so much for watching, and happy reading!! :D
There is something so liberating about carrying something about the size of a small journal that holds 20k+ books at any given moment. So any book of any physical size, now becomes one small compact same size lol
I am reading The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin. Very interesting novel about two young women and man who forge a written agreement in university -after a female university friend died -that they would always in the future be availabe and present in person to support each other if life got very tough. Fast and enjoyable read. Thanks for the reading time out😊
I’ve gone from a Kobo Elipsa 10.3/Pen to a Pocketbook 10.3 colour/Pen. older, so I appreciate having the extra screen size. I wanted colour and I almost bought the same Kobo as you, but again….older and eyes. I either take my Kobo with me into dialysis or an iPad 12.9. having the ability to carry thousand’s of books is priceless. And although I’m medically retired from being a technician I still keep up with chemistry/biochemistry/pharmacology. By the way, it seems as if you have similiar tastes in fiction to myself. I strongly recommend the newish Stephen King book; Holly. I totally get what you mean by having the colour covers brightening up the day. I’m looking forward to reading colour graphic novels (comics). Tom
Hey! I had to stop and say hi to a fellow "uses e-reader during medical appointments" warrior. I don't know what I would do without mine! I have a lot of infusions, and at my worst times, I'm admitted for treatments. It means I can just grab one device and still take my entire library with me. I hope your dialysis is working as well as it can. Take care! And thanks for the Holly request. I just looked her up...she was my favorite character in the Mr. Mercedes series, so I literally just purchased it. :)
Happy Birthday! My wife bought me The Betrayal of Thomas True for my Birthday back in July. If you are looking fro dragon books, I finished Dragon Rider by Taran Matharu a couple of days ago and it was so good, absolutely flew through it!
Thanks for the recommendation, it is now on my wishlist :D
I am mulling over grabbing this. Have the non-colour Libra, and wondering if it's worth it? Moved from Kindle years ago. And now I am boycotting Authors that "only" sell on Amazon...which should not even be legal.
I love my Kobo Libra Colour and have never regretted buying it. This is my first Kobo, so I did have to adjust to the differences from Kindle, and I struggled a bit for the first week. But after a while, I got used to it. Things that initially bothered me don’t bother me at all anymore, or I’ve found a way around them. There are still a few minor things that I don't like, but they're small compared to all the amazing functions this device provides. Maybe not for everyone, but it works for me. As for the stylus, I do think it's overpriced, and I wasn't sure how much I'd actually use it, so I went with an alternative--the Metapen for about $30 and it works great so far. I don't worry about scratches because I always use a screen protector. I'm enjoying the experience more and more. Of course, it won't fit in the cover case with a pen holder, but I only use the pen at home, where I do most of my reading, so it isn't an issue.
wow I never even considered a screen protector, you may have just solved my problem! thank you!!
@@AnAverageReader07You're welcome. I've seen many Kobo users opposed to using screen protectors, but I've always used one with my Kindle devices, and I continue to do so with my Kobo. I've seen some screen protectors cause issues with sensitivity when using a stylus, though. I’m using the Moko matte protector. No problems so far.
Near dark was my favorite vampire movie in the 80's lol
Great video!! I'm buying one right now!!
This review was spot on. I have the kobo clara color and I love it with the same caveats as you. One more, I wish we could resize the book covers on the library. They would look better bigger. And that feauture would be amazing. The color is more washed, but it's still beautiful.
I totally agree with this comment! happy reading :D
I've found setting brightness to 10% is sufficient for night reading. Got the same butter color cover. Love linking to library Overdrive and Google Drive folder. Also surprised to discover my HP stylus worked with it too.
thanks for sharing this, I am STILL on the hunt for a stylus...by the time I get one there will be a new Kobo out aha
Anne McCaffrey! Dragons of Pern series! It's not new, but it's really good.
thank you for this recommendation, I have added it to my wishlist :)
I really like your review. I have the Clara Colour and I totally agree because I bought my various readers (Kindle, Kobo, Boox Palma) for reading ebooks, nothing else.
thank you for this comment :D
I would add: you can't use multiple library cards with the Kobo (whereas you can with Kindle via Libby sync), the annotation experience is a little clunky (not a lot of room in the margins even if you increase them in the settings), and no handwritten sticky notes (which would be helpful for longer annotations given the limitations in margins). i was really excited about this device but ended up returning it. Hoping Kobo can fix these issues so I can move away from Amazon.
Thanks for the explanation. For me, I got recommend from UA-cam because I was curious about the e-ink and e-reader. I have wishlist it and other cheap accessories in the future me to buy them or not.
Hello!! That's the first video of yours that I watch and I love the way you express yourself and the passion you have about reading. I am quite lost on this subject and I'm asking for your help! I have an old Kobo Aura 2 which I probably bought about 8 years ago, and I love it! It still works fine, and I enjoy reading with it. However, I mainly read at night because my brain has decided that reading is a night-time activity, so I'd like to have a new e-reader that comes with a night light. I would like to have an e-reader with the shape of the Libra Color, but here comes the dilemma. I seldom read any color content. I might read some manga if I had a bigger screen (and most of them are B/W anyway), and I'm a bit concerned that the Libra Color may not offer a great B/W experience. Unfortunately, they discontinued the Libra 2. I really do not want to get involved with anything Amazon sells since I like to have freedom with the repositories and libraries I can get books from, and I love the Kobo OS and general experience. What should I do? Wait for Kobo to release a new device, hoping they will make a B/W version? Upgrade to the Libra Color? Or just keep the one I already have that works perfectly?
The libra colour is pretty good for reading at night as it has the warm light function that protects the eyes, so it's my go to before bed. I also don't read many colour books but I do a lot of highlighting so it's nice to select different colours etc. I'm not sure if the Libra device before this one also has a warm light, could be worth a look? Sorry I can't be of more help I'm very new to Kobo. Also, thanks for your kind words 😄
I also haven't had any issues either and I bought it at launch, I read graphic novels and everything and I don't have any of these issues. My only semi gripe in the beginning when I first bought it is the darkness of the screen but Ive adjusted to it now.
Hope you had a swell birthday 🎂 ❤
My only issue so far with this KOBO is that you can only have one library signed in at a time through Overdrive/Libby. If not for this flaw I'd get rid of my Kindle.
happy birthday! i personally went into fourth wing with pretty decent expectations (as i read a lot from the genre) and it still ended up Not My Vibe. though the writing is easy to get to and wasn't at all boring, i just personally did not like where the story went and how it went about it, if that makes sense? but don't let me deter you from reading, i'd love to know your thoughts on it too! the dragons were DEFINITELY the best part of the book, btw
btw very glad ur still with us today! that life-or-die "ahh fuck it" moment is so relatable lmao
Thank you for your kind words. I have heard such mixed things about Fourth Wing, so I have actually started Priory of the Orange Tree to get my dragon fix first. Then I will try Fourth Wing. That way, if I hate it, I will still have had some dragon goodness prior to the disappointment, lol.
@@AnAverageReader07 that's a very smart idea! saw you were loving it, so i'll look forward to hearing your full thoughts <3
I like the vibe of your channel!! Great video. Keep them coming. I have both Libra Colour and Kindle paperwhite and I love them both. They each have their redeeming qualities.
I agree, I LOVED my Paperwhite. It got me into ereaders, so I will always be a fan :D
If you like dragons, you might like Robin Hobb. The Rain Wild Chronicles is about dragons. The first one is "Dragon Keeper". I read The Liveship Traders series by her and thought the writing and story were *fantastic*
thanks for this recommendation, I have added it to my wishlist :D
Happy birthday Average Reader! 🥳 I hope you enjoyed your time with your family. I am very sorry about your experience with Crohn’s and the terrifying surgery experience you had. I’m really glad you’ve recovered and seem to be doing well. Glad you took on booktube, you’re doing great! I like Greek Mythology fiction too. The last one I read that I enjoyed was Elektra by Jennifer Saint. The Song of Achilles was the best one I have ever read but I believe Madeline Miller is an exceptionally gifted writer… I love everything she writes. Fourth Wing - I love dragons too! I typically lean towards more action, historical fantasy, and war dragons and stuff like that over the romance types BUT I really enjoyed Fourth Wing! I read it in a day or two. And I cried, lol. I had some qualms with the protagonist, and felt she kept taking me out of the story. But I adored the dragons in the book and the magic/school system. It was a fun read. Happy reading!
Happy Birthday to a fellow Leo! 🎉
Your birthday is August 7? My birthday is August 8! Happy birthday to us! 🎉
I am sorry this is so late, I hope you had a stupendous birthday! :D
Happy Birthday! 😃
Thank you! 😃
Hope you have a very happy birthday! 🎉 Myth of Normal is great. (I work in mental health as a school psychologist and that was our department group read this year). I’m putting that X-men book on my TBR. (Marvel fangirl!)
Hello fellow mental health professional, thank you for the work you do! (also hello fellow Marvel fan). Happy reading!
Happy Birthday 🎉
Thank you!
Happy Birthday! 🥳🎂
thank you so much!
Happy Birthday!🎈
thanks a million!
I do hope that someday we can hand write in the add note to highlight feature. Overall, I’m so happy with mine 😁
I am in the market for a new e-reader to replace my lost Paperwhite. Casual and never got ingrained in the Kindle store so I am flexible to try other options. Paperwhite felt a tad to small for me and the Oasis I can't get past that it has not been updated for so long and does not even have C-Type charging yet. Kobo seems to have come a long ways with the book and audio store (even though I will likely try to use library more and more) so it is pretty attractive to me over other options. I don't plan on needing color persay, but I would LOVE the idea that the book covers look so nice to flip through. Most manga is black and white anyway past the first few pages sometimes. I don't plan to read a ton of Manga, but I do plan to do so a little, and the Paperwhite was really not great because the text is so small. That is why I am torn between two devices right now. The Libra Colour and the Sage. Although I don't "need" the color, I find the option desirable and it seems to be an easy to handle device. While the Sage with the larger screen will handle the times I do read manga so much nicer I am betting, but at the expense of worse battery life and a bit bulkier to handle. I don't really care about the scribe stuff. I think if there was an updated Forma, it would be a no brainer for me, but for now, I am so torn between these two devices.
Thank you for having such a well rounded review of the device. I currently have a kindle & read from all genres & medias of books. I don’t own a tablet but opt to also read manga, graphic novels, & comics on my kindle. With color being introduced I would love to see some for graphic novels & comics even with the coloring limit. However, what I didn’t know was that kobo does not offer that feature with panel reading. That is something I didn’t quite realize that other brands didn’t have coming from a kindle. That alone with sometimes dissuade me from purchasing & possibly waiting for some of the technology to further. In manga it isn’t a problem since those books are about the size of ereader screens, but things like full page comics that feature is heavily needed.
I love my kobo! I still use both my kindle and the kobo, but definitely reach for the kobo more.
Really enjoying the chill vibes of your videos. Enjoyed his one too, I have a Kobo Libra Colour and agree with eveything you've said, with one exception; I have had the device crash a few times when I have been using the Overdrive feature. But it's not the end of the world as I just reload it and then it works fine.
Agree. Mine has crashed maybe 3 times so far but it’s easy enough to reboot.
Same here. I love it so much still lol it’s so enjoyable to use (I had it freeze when I think I added a epub3 file ebook from an online library… then I removed it and I don’t think it happened since, I don’t have experience with that so maybe I didn’t do it right)
sorry only just seen this, sorry to hear you've had this issue. The reason I didn't mention it is because it isn't something I have experienced, and still haven't. Have you contacted Kobo for any advice? maybe they can sort it for you, happy reading! :D
