We've Got a New "Big" Toy // How It'll Help With Manicuring Our Land + Garden & Land Updates
Back at the land to keep working on clean up. We bought a Kubota tracked Excavator to help us with brush clean up & manicuring + we have a big pond to build in the future (well that will take bigger equipment than we actually have). But the goal is to be able to use it in the creek area and to pull up any trunks from the trash trees we're thinning out. I've got most of my garden planted in this round of experimentation. I picked up a Seeding Square (popular in the Sq-Ft gardening system) and am practicing densely planting some items just to see what happens (even though I have plenty of space to actually plant in). I'm just so dang curious about all of these methods!

If you've been watching my progress over the last few weeks, you may have gleaned that this may not be exactly happening in real time. Ding ding ding. I've been filming since August 2024 and it took me a bit to get my YT chops going again (aka make the time to publish all of this content I was filming). So you are getting a peak into my Fall Garden experiment. As I write this (January 2025), I ...

Time to learn how to run the excavator and skid steer. It's not a difficult as you think. 😊
I can run the skid steer! Just haven’t had an opportunity to learn the excavator. But also - we’re building a pond/shaping the land around it and that’s above my knowledge base! So I’m in the tractor raking up all the excess limbs/branches etc around our land. Thanks for the encouragement!
Beets too I Have heard. Thats why russians eat beets, they survive the frost. Learned that from the OA.
I just learned that collards are evidently cold hardy to 1F! No wonder they were a champ! 19 was nothing for them!! Good to know about beets! Thanks for sharing!
Carrots shouldn't be covered with mulch. You might try vermiculite, just a light dusting. Alsi the should be covered and kept moist.
Thanks for tips!
Nice stream. I like. 😊
There was a time I didn't know how to use any of it either. 😮
opps true
💕💕💕
so ture
I know it is said the blue lake bush beans are cool weather but in my experience they are not. The plants are somewhat hardy but they just dont produce very good for me in cooler weather. I have had much better production from them when its a bit warmer.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I was bummed - but it’s just one big giant experiment until I get it figured out!! So much info out there from a variety of gardeners and it’s challenging for newbies to discern who is right. So I’m just keeping an experiment mindset over here!! 💕
FWIW, that pumpkin, the "Rouge Vif D'Etampes" has another, easier name.
Known as Rouge vif d'Etampes in France. "Rouge vif" means "vivid red." This is an attractive variety for fall display. Shaped flat, looking like a red cheese wheel, the fruits average 10-15 lb. The moderately sweet, orange flesh is excellent for pies. Also known as "Cinderella".
I've tried growing a few of those melons. I had great germination, but my soil just wouldn't support them for whatever reason. I would like to recommend a melon for you to try. I get this melon at Trader Joe's. It's a hybrid called Galia and I found the seeds for it at Johnny's. The ONLY time I've ever had success growing melons was when I tossed my melon seeds onto the compost pile and the melon vines volunteered themselves. I got a total of three melons from two vines. One softball-size, one baseball-size and one racquetball-size. ALL of them were incredibly sweet. Actually better than what I got from the store. Tasty little snacks. I strongly suspect if you grow the Galia from Johnny's it'll be a proper size and you'll love them. Galia melons are a cross of cantaloupe and honeydew melons. The outside is a sorta football-shaped melon that's netted and looks like cantaloupe, while the inside is green just like honeydew, but the flavor is all of everything you could ever dream of, with all the best qualities of both melons. Looks weird, but I HIGHLY recommend them. I don't recall what else I was g0ing to say so I'll end it here. Maybe next video. See ya then.
Taking notes!!! And of course it would have a simple name 🙄🙄🙄😂😂😂
One Thing that I love about those storage cases is that the clear sides allow for easy labelling. I'm a Label nerd. I love using my PC and printer (and Avery or compatibe labels) for everything. This allows me to have legible text instead of my sometimes nearly-illegible handwriting as well as including color-coding backgrounds or just added cute graphics elements for added cuteness. One of my OCD ideas ended up with me putting all of my seed packets on the scanner to use the actual packets for labels. Fortunately it occurred to me sooner than later that I could search online for seed packets and just use existing images. My labels were perfect that year! It's a damn shame about the garden. (Sigh.) One way of combining ideas is to use blue painters tape on the case, then stick my printed labels on the tape. Makes it easy to remove them when I want to change them. FOR THE CASE: You can use a simple spreadsheet with a two columns list of what's in each case. Print it and put it on top of the small cases (or stick it under the lid of the case) so you can easily see what's where. ANOTHER option is to print 2 columns and cut that in half so you can put the left column into the left side of the case and the right column into the right side. This way you can see what's there without opening the case. Finally YET ANOTHER option is a 2-column list to put down the FRONT of the case (with a empty column where the latch is) so you can see the contents of that case when it's sitting up on the shelf. AT THE VERY LEAST you can label each case with simple titles: "Flowers 1" & "Flowers 2", "Pumpkins, Squash, Gourds, Melons", "Leafy Veg 1", "Leafy Veg 2", or whatever you want to use. Have fun with it. This is entirely for YOU.
Fantastic tips!!!! I have seen people “inventory” their cases! I wasn’t quite sure if I was done adding to my collection just yet 😂😂😂
Omg all I could see were those 70s mushroom canisters.
Looks like I need to go back and scoop them up & get them listed in my Etsy shop! I had multiple ppl on TT comment the same!! 💕
It's beautiful!!!♥
Thank you so much. I so appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. 💕💕
How long will the strip be? It would be cool to see an aerial "site plan" where you sketch over Google Satellite view to help visualize. Like the AirBnB idea.
Landing strip is 1400 feet long.
I recommend you save all that ash from the burn piles. You can mix it into your garden soil. Good stuff to research. How deep is the water table? I'm curious if your barndominium will have a basement or root-cellar or not (I'm kinda obsessed with having storage space.) Following with interest.
Hi! We've definitely saved some for the yard - but I have lots of burn piles that I can stock away to amend into my garden soil as well! Thanks for that reminder!! Unsure about the water table - I feel like around here it's 600+ feet down. I think we'll have a storm shelter placed in the foundation but not a full basement (as of right now that's the plan).
Is your beautiful property still in the Cleburne area? I’ll be curious to follow your garden as I am in the dfw area.
We are out in the county but still close to Cleburne!! Zone 8b
I have a thought regarding all that stuff you're going to rake up. Instead of getting rid of it, I think you should pile it all up into a big mound (directly on the soil), spray it down with the hose... and let it compost. Let it sit over the Winter and break down. Early next Spring, use a bobcat or something to turn the pile over and mix it up, pile it back up and let it finish. By the time you need compost for the garden, you'll have PLENTY... right there.
Good advice!! I've got plans for a compost area - so this would be a good start to get one going. We've got TONS of wood chips/clippings all over.
great video. we have friends out in south fork co. we are planning a trip for aug of 25. where did you get the trail map and do you know how I can obtain one?? thanks and awesome video
Hi Tony - sorry to have missed when you first left the comment! We picked up a map from one of the ATV rental locations in South Fork (there are 2 in town). I think the City office has them as well. And Rainbow Grocery will have them! We LOVE South Fork so much! Spent 3 weeks there this past summer and looking forward to going back this summer. Let me know if I can make any further recs for ya!
@@TheHouseofSugarCreek do you know what rv park is the best to ride out of? aspen ridge or another?? we want to trailer my friends Polaris expedition but that will leave us car less. Thanks again!!
Maybe try Beaver Creek Reservoir! RV spots and lots of trails to ride. Plus fishing the reservoir! southfork.org/beaver-creek-reservoir
I have 4 off grid acers , and have big Oaks on my land too. Good luck with all the work.
Thank you!!! We’ve come along way already! All the grand oaks seem to be doing well - most are Post Oak and they can handle construction going on around them (supposedly). We have a few Black Jack Oaks as well, plus pecans, gigantic cedars that are taller than some of my oaks. And then some Elms. I will also be adding some more trees where some had to be removed due to rot/disease plus adding a small dwarf fruit tree grove. Thanks for watching!!
where did you get that map? thanks
Hi Weslynn - we picked up a map from one of the ATV rental places in South Fork. I think you can also get them at the City Hall and at Rainbow Grocery in town. Hope that helps & let me know if you have any other questions or need recs!
Thank you! I needed this video in my life…..I loved this game and needed to hear it say kitchen store! 😂
Sorry I'm just now getting to your comment! I forget sometimes comments get hidden!! I'm glad someone else has fond memories of this game!!! Thanks for watching!!
Be careful, dreams are nice but they have to be paid for.
Not sure what you’re implying with your comment as I’m very aware things cost money. 🧐 Was that meant to be helpful or hurtful? 🧐 Don’t you worry your pretty little self about my dreams or the money needed to fund them. None of that should be a concern or worry for you! 💕 Thanks for watching!!
What a bizarre comment. 🤔❓
How come you rarely post? I love your channel, but it’s usually months and months between postings.
Hi! I'm working on it!! Hoping to be back at publishing regularly soon! Lots going on behind the scenes over here and I just struggle with keeping up with everything by myself!
Hello, I just came across your channel. Congrats on the new land. It can be exciting and a lot of work. but it is rewarding work
Welcome to my channel!! And thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I'm working on gearing back up to publishing regularly again (I've got help now!). So stay tuned to see the transformations!
I would LOVE to work there!!!
We boondock and trail ride that area every year. A small group of us meet there for 3 or 4 weeks! We may of crossed paths!
Ohhh love hearing that!!! After that trip, we ended up buying a UTV and decided we couldn't wait a full season to ride the trails, so we went back at the beginning of October and spent another week before the snow came in. We rode nearly 300 miles!! Looking forward to getting back up there next summer. I've got a doozy of a trail ride to share soon - we were up in the mountains and then routed ourselves back down and it brought us down a crazy road. When we got to base level, there was a sign that said the road was damaged. LOL That would've been helpful to know up top before rock climbing back down at 3 MPH.
How many pampas stems did you use ❤
I think close to 200 - depends on how fluffy they are
Nice! I've been so busy I haven't even had a chance to listen to anything in months!!!! Congratulations on 400+!!

Hey, Looking forward to seeing how you did with the table. Will you be adding the results soon. Patiently waiting...
I’d love to but it took a back seat LOL I’ve run up against “I can’t do it all” 🤣🤣🤣 Hoping to find a rhythm again soon!!! I’ve been filming but not finding the time to edit. 🥴

Thank you so much, Puja!!! 💕💕
Was this at the Palazzo?
Close! Venetian
@@TheHouseofSugarCreek thank you. I don't recall seeing that machine the last time. I remember seeing two top dollar along the back wall on the far right. 😊
You aren’t wrong about where they are now. At the time of this recording (I *think* August 2021), they were just to the right of the cashier. We were extremely disappointed to see them moved when we were back in November. 😂😂😂 Won a bit from one of them where you saw them but won more from other machines in the main room. Pinball was a bit hot & paid out more for us this last trip.
@@TheHouseofSugarCreek Glad to hear. I am heading there this Friday. Can't complain the Grazie Comps are generous. Hopefully, I'll hit a few hand pays. 😊.
That looks like fun! Good job. I really liked the video! ❤️
Thank you! 🥰🥰
What did the gingerbread man put on his bed? A cookie sheet. Hahaha Christmas cookies are in my Top 5 favorite things of the holiday season. I agree withe Christmas Eve candlelight service being a special tradition. The story about performing the plays solidifies you needing to watch 1994's Little Women. I truly think it will become a new favorite for you. The vintage furniture and costumes are gorgeous. I love the serving dish you used.
Hahaha great joke! Made me giggle!! I will for sure need to watch Little Women!! Serving dish is part of my moms Blue Danube plate collection!! 💕💕
1994's Little Women and Hallmark Channel's The Christmas Shoes are my two must watch Christmas movies. My favorite Christmas Song is "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Wynonna and Kenny Rogers did a fantastic rendition of "Mary Did You Know?"
I have to admit I don't think I've ever watched Little Women. Not even the most recent one. And I also love Do You Hear What I Hear. I completely forgot about that one!! Thank you for sharing your Christmas favs!!
Home Alone for me too and I also watched the new Home Alone on Disney Plus - You have to just laugh. I also have my Favorite Cartoon Character Movies Rudolph The red-nosed Reindeer 1964, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is coming to Town, How the Grinch Stole Christmas all of them are good and I can't forget Baby New Year - All of these oldies but goodies. O Holy Night is my Favorite and I go into worship every time I hear it and funny you say that the same time I am typing After that I just play Christmas Music I grew up with One album with "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway and the album is Motown Christmas 1973 ish LOL I am telling my age.
I love reading about your favs!!! I totally forgot about the classics...Rudolph, Frosty, Santa Claus is coming to town. I think that's the same one as the guy with the clock??
Look at you!! VLOGMAS! I'm looking forward to all 25!
Yayyyy thank you for supporting me!!! 💕💕💕
Omgosh I love this!!! Is your mind just reeling in these vintage spaces!? I wish someone would give you a vintage home to decorate!
I would be on cloud 9 decorating & sourcing for homes like these!!! Even getting in at Reno process would be a dream!!!
Wow! The tree is stunning. Those ornaments!!! I think a light blue disco ball ornament would have been beautiful with the collection too!
I’m obsessed!!! And blues would fit right in for sure!
The tree looks great! I am excited for the big reveal!
A little late in the upload (it's uploading right now!!) but I can't wait to show it to you!!
I am excited you are doing Vlogmas! I will be back tomorrow to see this Pampus 🎄 I have a serious love for Christmas ornaments and I want to see which ones are in the box.
The story is just as good as what’s in the box IMO. 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for watching!!!
Love your hair! Thanks for showing off Vegas. I have never been there.
Such a cool place with lots of history!!! And great food! So much more than just casinos.
This is awesome!
Loved the reveal! It really opened your space!
It so did!!! It’s like a whole new room!
