Last regular season, Markstrom had 82 GA per 100 xGA, good enough for second in the league behind only Hellebuyck (78). (starters, data from Evolving Hockey). Best stat available right now imho. He's eighth over the last three RS among goalies with 100+ starts with 90. Vasilevskiy has 101 GA/xGA last year, that's a statistically below average goaltender, and 91 over last three years (10th). I like Vasy, but he's somewhat overrated, looks better than he actually is. Top five over last three years is Andersen (82), Shesterkin (83), Ullmark (83), Sorokin (84), and Hellebuyck (85). That's not necessarily my top five, just what the numbers say. Personally I'd take Shesterkin over anybody else any day of the week.
I think it wouldve been classless if he did take it. Its a team sport and you win and lose with your team going out and accepting a personal trophy after losing the cup would be classless, him not getting it shows he has class.
