Fishing in the middle of nowhere in Florida for big trout and redfish. I was using artificial baits all day long and caught 13 redfish and 3 big trout. About to go to Costa Rica for a diving course and gonna bring my fishing gear with me to fish if the beach in playas del coco. What size line would you recommend and do I need a liscense to fish of the beach there ?

I have tried fishing around samara and haven’t had any luck. I also didn’t see any schooling fish. I am wondering if samara is a good place to fish or not also where should I fish on the beach I have two options on option is I can fish on rocks but there is a lot of snags or I could fish on the sand but there is bigger waves what would you suggest. Thank you.
I went there once. I'd go to the south end of samara and fish the beach and rocks there. My bad for not replying sooner man.

Sorry for responding so late but I preferably like using 7 to 8 foot rods. Putting in a lot of time is your best friend here
I lived in Jaco for a few years. Get in touch with German (pronounced Herman) He'll get you the trip, whatever you want, with white or green towels (cocaine or Marijuana). Any kind of hooker. He owed me a favour and he got me on a trip where I saw the other guy catch a 450lb marlin.
Where did you buy your gaff? I’m having trouble finding one in Costa Rica?
It's home made but you might find some at Primos in Herradura
How do you keep your fish fresh while you continue to fish? My son and I live in SJO and would like to get out to the pacific for same fishing on the weekends and I haven't solved the piece of keeping them fresh yet.
I just throw them in a pool of water so they stay somewhat cooler. Then I just go home earlier. I don't take a cooler with me because people steal everything there sadly.
I'm gonna tell you why you're losing flounder on live bait. It's because with live bait you have to give him time to actually eat it .
Yeah I know haha. I fish a lot with live bait so I get that but sometimes my timing is just off. Thanks for the tip though
You live in CR? I'm headed to Samara in a little over a month. Hoping to get on a boat fishing. Google only shows me there's a few to go with. Do you have any suggestions for Samara? Or, if there's a better way than booking a high priced charter?
I don't know that region well but next time you can just ask around town too and someone will point you in the right direction.

Looks like very little fishing pressure What town are you fishing near…? Drove the pan American hiway to Chile…action at almost every beach on pacific side.
Oh no trust me there’s a lot of pressure haha I just go to a part that doesn’t have much people. But it’s actually very overfished here
@@josiahknapp7198 my experience was the only person on a beach or standing on a coral bluff…casting out and getting hits on every cast…..sometimes a sneaker wave would knock me silly and my legs would get thrashed by the sharp coral…wasn’t chumming for sharks either.
Why don’t you pull the hooks it’s not hard to bill the fish and remove the hook
the hooks normally either come out or will rust out within a few days. It's also better for those fish to not take them out of the water since they're pelagics.

Great video thanks for sharing. I'm just getting ready for a trip to Costa Rica Jaco area and was wondering if I should bring longer 13' surf rods too or just an 8' spinning rod? What works best? Any tip or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
I use an 8 foot rod cause it’s a very diverse size to use. It’s worked perfect for what I do so I recommend that. But if you’re comfortable surf casting with a 13 footer then you do you.
@@josiahknapp7198 Thanks a lot for the quick reply Josiah. I think it's best to keep it simple and just bring the 8' rod and just concentrate on casting lures. It's easier to travel light and move around if needed. Cheers from Canada.

I fish in Matapalo and have a few rods on hand. There are a few spots at that have good activity.
yeah the fishing down there is better than where I fish. The further you get from Puntarenas the better.

Overfished, there’s a lot of netting, long lining, and 0 regulation of anything.

Epic video mate. I keep watching the action again and again. I am heading down that way near Xmas really hoping to do a lot of shore fishing and hopefully hire a kayak for a short session. What species should I focus on then and what lures size would you recommend. I will certainly get a few of those Yozuri poppers!!
rooster fish, cubera snappers, and snook are the most sought after fish off the beach
@@josiahknapp7198 cheers man, I now have a selection of lures mainly poppers and lures like mag minnows/darters 90-150mm as well as metals and bucktails. So will see how it goes in a few weeks time
