First time out for baby chicks with momma.
Переглядів 8696 місяців тому
This momma has been broody since the day we got her. She finally got her chicks. It was a long, complicated saga. She sat for 30 days, and still no chicks hatched. We assumed that the eggs were not viable at this point (21 days is chicken gestation). I bought her some store bought chicks and traded the eggs for the new babies. She immediately started clucking happily. She is so happy! today is ...
How we safe-guarded our chicken pen from rats and keep our tiny, baby chicks safely inside.

We had 9 baby chicks with momma in the pen, but 2 escaped and were lost. We were devastated. The ground here in the summer is hot baked clay, so digging a 4 inch wide, 6 inch trench was out of the question. I was at a home store and got a great idea! It works so well and makes it look nicer! all for under 200 dollars and only about 5 hours work.

We adopted Jasmine, along woth 2 other goats almost a year ago. She was in milk then, and continues to give milk. She was very shy at first; unsure of who we were and why she had to move. They had a small play yard that was all hard packed dirt and a pen to sleep in, but no access to green grass or shrubs. Here at #schimmerdownfarm She has 13 acres to rain free during the day, 6 new friends, he...

    If you haven't yet the couple big floods in the (1997?) and may be (2005?) moved a lot of rocks and settled them across from Seattle Bar and below that bridge also on the west side. I have seen quite a few large specimens and many smaller of that stuff. We are lucky to have such specimens of the Jade just laying around on gravel bars and also many other rocks like serpentine and quartz layered ( my favorite).

      @@TBAARSTAD Here in the Applegate area. The name of the day use area is Seattle Bar at the Applegate lake. Those floods mentioned repositioned all the gravel into three large gravel bars. A little tougher getting down to the gravel bars when on the west side of river, but worth it.

    The chicks scratched down through the gravel that was there, the dog dug some from the outside, and the chicks escaped. I assume the missing 2 got eaten by something. I put the others back and then moved them inside until we got it secured. No rats have been seen. I attached the hardware cloth to the door and folded the bottom over in itself as I it wasn't sharp to close up the door gaps.

      @TBAARSTAD 6 місяців тому

      I do fill it up almost full. I leave a little space for them to move around, but not much. You have to make sure to get all the grit off the rocks. if you have any of the grit from the cycle before- sometimes the grit gets into little crevices in the rock- it will not polish well to a high shine. Also, I do a final tumble with ivory soap and borax to get the highest shine.

    As an outside observer from Canada, how is a set of suggestions that are merely moderately right of centre even concerning?

    • @TBAARSTAD
      @TBAARSTAD 6 місяців тому

      I don't believe that any of the things in P 2025 are just moderately right of center. The fact that you might think that tells me you have not read it, or you don't understand where "center" is. p 3 tells us marriage, family, work , school and volunteering are the institutions we need to follow. (this is a pretty narrow scope- especially when they define marriage and family the way they do-see below) p204 tells us that patriotism and colorblindness is prioritized over social justice. (this is just plain insane to me) p 541 and 461 says families consist of a "married man an woman and children." and that every child has a right to a mother and a father. ( I don't think that the government should tell me what my family is supposed to look like- let alone mandate ANY of it) p 4-5 covers "wokeness" and we need to remove words like sexual orientation, reproductive health, reproductive rights, inclusion. ( being woke simply means being alert and concerned about injustice and discrimination- you know "treating others as I would want to be treated" a very Christian/biblical mandate and a good way to live) "A good society is comprised of marriage, family, work , church, school and volunteering", says p4-5. (Marriage isn't for everyone, not everyone want or can have children, I am certainly not going to be forced to go to church- that is what this country was founded on- religious freedom, which includes freedom FROM religion) p 454 and 886 says that the CDC, OSHA and Biden caused harm by mandating masks and call for closures/ reduced contact (- during the pandemic that killed over 7 MILLION people worldwide.) p 60 wants to undo advances in gender, racial, and women's equality. (CERTAINLY NOT a centerists way of thinking) p 104 wants to ban trans people from serving in the military. p260 and 265 bans abortion but talks about how sad maternal and infant death is- the very things that the states with the highest maternal and infant death have just banned and thus made worse., while doing nothing to make having and raising a child easier) p 246 and 247 calls for the dismantling of PBS and NPR ( who controls the airways, controls all??) I really don't have time for the other 15 comments I'd like to make and cite. calls for defunding public schools, defining what a woman is, dismantling same sex marriage, getting rid of birth control, not allowing IVF, no stem cell treatment or research... the list goes on and on. making public school kids "apply" for mandatory service in the armed forces, but allowing private school kids to be exempt... they won't be happy until women are baby machines and all people in power are white, straight and male. If you're ok with all that, if he wins, I'll swap countries with you!

      That is a great question. I don't normally do this with my stones, but I had some stones, specifically some Oregon Opal that I was trying to get color on and it seemed to work well for identifying the colors, etc. It doesn't' stay forever, maybe a month or so then they start dulling out. I don't think it is something I will do on a regular basis.
