First time out for baby chicks with momma.
Переглядів 8696 місяців тому
This momma has been broody since the day we got her. She finally got her chicks. It was a long, complicated saga. She sat for 30 days, and still no chicks hatched. We assumed that the eggs were not viable at this point (21 days is chicken gestation). I bought her some store bought chicks and traded the eggs for the new babies. She immediately started clucking happily. She is so happy! today is ...
How we safe-guarded our chicken pen from rats and keep our tiny, baby chicks safely inside.

We had 9 baby chicks with momma in the pen, but 2 escaped and were lost. We were devastated. The ground here in the summer is hot baked clay, so digging a 4 inch wide, 6 inch trench was out of the question. I was at a home store and got a great idea! It works so well and makes it look nicer! all for under 200 dollars and only about 5 hours work.

We adopted Jasmine, along woth 2 other goats almost a year ago. She was in milk then, and continues to give milk. She was very shy at first; unsure of who we were and why she had to move. They had a small play yard that was all hard packed dirt and a pen to sleep in, but no access to green grass or shrubs. Here at #schimmerdownfarm She has 13 acres to rain free during the day, 6 new friends, he...

BIG HUNKS DAY! today I'm taking slices of some of the bigger Applegate Jade pieces.
Their curiosity is too cute ❤
This may just be serpentine with black inclusions in it,the black is magnetite inclusion wen doing a magnet test acmagnwt will magnetize to it becuase of the black inclusions in it,true jade doesnt have this inclusion in it,there is nephrite can be also known as actinolite part of the nephrite veritie, that's a lighter green
I think that 3rd “pretty” one might be petrified wood.
If you haven't yet the couple big floods in the (1997?) and may be (2005?) moved a lot of rocks and settled them across from Seattle Bar and below that bridge also on the west side. I have seen quite a few large specimens and many smaller of that stuff. We are lucky to have such specimens of the Jade just laying around on gravel bars and also many other rocks like serpentine and quartz layered ( my favorite).
Do you mean in Seattle or down here in the Applegate area? Sounds so fun. I am really wanting to get out there again and I might miss it as the summer is coming to a close!
@@TBAARSTAD Here in the Applegate area. The name of the day use area is Seattle Bar at the Applegate lake. Those floods mentioned repositioned all the gravel into three large gravel bars. A little tougher getting down to the gravel bars when on the west side of river, but worth it.
@@GoldChump I am planning a trip as we speak! lol
I'm wife of. User here, grew up in the Applegate and then delivered mail up there. I was there before the lake and have found lots of beautiful jade there. We live by Crowfoot now and find pretty rocks. Up Worthington road is a place for petrified wood and quartzite of great size. We had pack Llamas to help.

@ 1:38 , looks possibly petrified wood .. nice assortment !
I cut it and it is definably pet wood!
Good idea. Thank you for sharing.
That orange chicken was ASKING for a smackdown 😂.
Don't touch my babies!
Lovely and peaceful! Can you also tell me what the song in the background is please
The chicks scratched down through the gravel that was there, the dog dug some from the outside, and the chicks escaped. I assume the missing 2 got eaten by something. I put the others back and then moved them inside until we got it secured. No rats have been seen. I attached the hardware cloth to the door and folded the bottom over in itself as I it wasn't sharp to close up the door gaps.
Looks very secure for sure good job! Are the rats going after the chics? I wonder what do most people do with their hen house/chicken coup, do you guys have a different situation? And what the gaps from the gate.
My biggest wish is to have a small ranch with my own little farm. There is something so soothing about taking care of animals, getting and harvesting natural resources, and building bonds like this ❤
What a beautiful hen! The chicks are cute🥰
They are! You are so kind. Thanks for the comment.
Crowfoot road before butte falls. And north obenchain. Has very large petrified wood and other awesome rocks.
Below rainy falls. Very nice jade.

Do you fill the tumbler up all the way? I just finished my first full cycle and my rocks dont look like that. 👍👍
I do fill it up almost full. I leave a little space for them to move around, but not much. You have to make sure to get all the grit off the rocks. if you have any of the grit from the cycle before- sometimes the grit gets into little crevices in the rock- it will not polish well to a high shine. Also, I do a final tumble with ivory soap and borax to get the highest shine.

I will take my chances woth Trump. since i have seen what Biden and the Democrats have done to my Country
What is it that Biden and the democrats have done that make you unhappy? Why do you not care that Trump is a convicted rapist? Why don't you care that women are dying from the abortion ban? Do you not think that women deserve equal rights? I see your profile picture is you (I assume) with a big gun. Is your concern that the dems will "take your guns"? I am genuinely curious.
You might want to check your sources on Trump being a convicted rapist. That's 100% a lie.
Is this jade or nepherite??? Or bowenite??
I believe it is a bowenite variety.
As an outside observer from Canada, how is a set of suggestions that are merely moderately right of centre even concerning?
I don't believe that any of the things in P 2025 are just moderately right of center. The fact that you might think that tells me you have not read it, or you don't understand where "center" is. p 3 tells us marriage, family, work , school and volunteering are the institutions we need to follow. (this is a pretty narrow scope- especially when they define marriage and family the way they do-see below) p204 tells us that patriotism and colorblindness is prioritized over social justice. (this is just plain insane to me) p 541 and 461 says families consist of a "married man an woman and children." and that every child has a right to a mother and a father. ( I don't think that the government should tell me what my family is supposed to look like- let alone mandate ANY of it) p 4-5 covers "wokeness" and we need to remove words like sexual orientation, reproductive health, reproductive rights, inclusion. ( being woke simply means being alert and concerned about injustice and discrimination- you know "treating others as I would want to be treated" a very Christian/biblical mandate and a good way to live) "A good society is comprised of marriage, family, work , church, school and volunteering", says p4-5. (Marriage isn't for everyone, not everyone want or can have children, I am certainly not going to be forced to go to church- that is what this country was founded on- religious freedom, which includes freedom FROM religion) p 454 and 886 says that the CDC, OSHA and Biden caused harm by mandating masks and call for closures/ reduced contact (- during the pandemic that killed over 7 MILLION people worldwide.) p 60 wants to undo advances in gender, racial, and women's equality. (CERTAINLY NOT a centerists way of thinking) p 104 wants to ban trans people from serving in the military. p260 and 265 bans abortion but talks about how sad maternal and infant death is- the very things that the states with the highest maternal and infant death have just banned and thus made worse., while doing nothing to make having and raising a child easier) p 246 and 247 calls for the dismantling of PBS and NPR ( who controls the airways, controls all??) I really don't have time for the other 15 comments I'd like to make and cite. calls for defunding public schools, defining what a woman is, dismantling same sex marriage, getting rid of birth control, not allowing IVF, no stem cell treatment or research... the list goes on and on. making public school kids "apply" for mandatory service in the armed forces, but allowing private school kids to be exempt... they won't be happy until women are baby machines and all people in power are white, straight and male. If you're ok with all that, if he wins, I'll swap countries with you!
Agenda 47 Trump 2024!!!
what exactly is so appealing of a bankrupt man and his morally bankrupt plan? oh wait- Trump says he doesn't even know what p 2025 is... AND that he disagrees with "some of it". lol. not sure how you can disagree with something you know nothing about.. oh right.. he didn't even know E, Jean Caroll and barely knew who Paul Manafort was either. He lies, in case you didn't know.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Félicitations
Were all of your goats alright?
Yes!! Thankfully, they did not eat enough of it to cause problems. Apparently, they need to eat it over a period of time for it to become toxic? We are eradicating it, but ti is a bit tenacious.
The innocence of children and animals is beyond beautiful!
Lovely! Where do you live?
Eugene, Oregon
So I recently bought mineral oil to soak some of my beach rocks and agates in. But as I was looking online at how to do it I have found a lot of people saying that it can ruin your agates and make the layers or lines come out of them. Have you ever had this problem?
That is a great question. I don't normally do this with my stones, but I had some stones, specifically some Oregon Opal that I was trying to get color on and it seemed to work well for identifying the colors, etc. It doesn't' stay forever, maybe a month or so then they start dulling out. I don't think it is something I will do on a regular basis.
Swing a left across the bridge, road goes to gravel, there’s 2 creeks that feed Applegate. That’s where I find some really polished palm sized pieces

On what basis do you believe this is garnet at all, let alone grossular?
Firstly, it glows (fluorescent pinkish orange) under blue light. The mohs hardness is approx 7. It is translucent and it was found in an area where gg is found. Is there some reason you doubt it? Thanks for the comment.
@TBAARSTAD the fact that it looks completely amorphous in the video, which isn't how garnet forms, and the fact that low grade garnet is usually basically powder if you cut through the host rock and crystal like that.
images.app.goo.gl/4mC6kfTUMkqdVs6o6 Here is some information about hydrogrossular Garnet. It is amorphous and rarely forms crystals. It is often found with serpentine as it's host rock.
There are some good photos of it in that link.
I thought the same as you did, that all Garnet were crystals. I did not know what this pink stuff was until one of the comments suggested it was and then I did a bit of a deep dive. I am not an expert geologist, just a fairly avid collector, so I am always open to being mistaken. Thanks for the engagement and question. Have a great day.
I’m impressed! More than one semi pretty rock hiding its inner beauty in my collection. Nice to see you work that one

Looks lovely, I would give it another 2 weeks at 12 Deg and as high a humidity as u can get. See if it goes gooye xx
12 degrees? Celsius? I would love to get it gooey inside, but I must be misunderstanding.
That is cool I agree. I am interested in seeing some of it with facets…thanks for the lesson, you rock!
Cool, thanks!
I keep saying gossamer, but I mean grossular!!! Gossamer is fabric! Lol
Lovely! But come on! Don't post a vid of aged chevre with no info of how you did it! Your rocks are very nice, but I will bet they don't nearly as good as that chevre. I make chevre, but have never aged it. Pretty please, share your process!!!
I will post that! lol. thanks for interacting! I used the recipe for chevre on cheesmaking.com, if you scroll down you'll see "advanced " making.
