This is the Commercial Men's VIII one week before the Head of the Yarra doing a standing start and burst of firm. They are preparing for a head race, so the rate is held down to a comfortable 38. A good cox should have a clear idea of the technical focus they want for the crew on each stroke, and bring a controlled intensity to the start of the piece. This is the Commercial Men's VIII one week before the Head of the Yarra. We have just finished our paddling in fours and have taken the VIII off at half pressure. Try to create a quiet intensity with your voice to help the oarsmen focus. Also use the timing of what you say to assist the crew build rhythm.
