I've had a UA-cam channel for years where I publish my social history videos. During the Covid lockdowns I started to post demos of songs I'd written. I thought that it was an imposition on the subscribers so I created this channel solely for my music.
Imaginary Man
With this one I worked with my friend Val Jensen. He lives in California so I had to turn the amplifier up to elven so he could hear what I was playing. Val is a great artist who finds some of my lyrics interesting. I sent him a batch of songs and part songs I'd written as far back as 1972. Imaginary man was just a verse and a chorus. Val wrote a few more verses and came up with this laidback Jazz production. Then he made the video. I think it's great.

Wishful Thinking
Переглядів 67Місяць тому
How's this for misplaced confidence? This starts with me singing acapella, you can hear the autotune whining me back into key. That said I think it's a good song and a lovely story. The video of me looking glum was made a while ago and it was how I felt at the time. If you give it a listen thank you very much.
Jimmy Murray
Переглядів 22Місяць тому
Jimmy Murray was written in 1980. I'd written up to, "and all he ever wanted" and couldn't think what he wanted. I was telling this to my neighbour's teenage daughter and she suggested, that all he ever wanted was to be a girl. So thats how the song came about. There are other verses but this version succinctly tells the tale. I like the acoustic guitar on this which is why it's so high in the ...
Walk Away

So there I was writing a song called More's The Pity when this song leapt out of the blue fully formed the lyrics the music and even the idea for the video. I honestly think that if a good live performer sang this they could have the audience eating out of the palm of their hand. I quite like this one.
The Prism
Переглядів 72Місяць тому
If I was a pop star in a seventies Prog Rock Band this three-minute track would be the whole of side one. The Prism revisits that age-old question of who we really are. Luckily I know who I am. I’m the bloke who wrote it, produced it and played all the instruments and consider myself very lucky to be able to wile away my time doing just that. If you give it a listen, thank you. Lyrics below The...
Reckless Joy

I'd been writing this song for five weeks before I realised what I was on about. It took two weeks to record and a couple of days to make the video. I like this one, especially the lyrics. As far as I'm concerned a perfect way to spend a couple of months. See what you think, thank you to those who take the time to listen.
Outside in

This one was written in 1982. I recorded it live, vocal and guitar and it was terrible. I sounded so tired by the last verse I edited it out. Rather than delete the track I decided to play around with it. I slowed the BPM (Beats Per Minute) to 117 from 120, changed the pitch to 1 & 2 on the additional tracks ie backing vocals, bass and percussion, then played around with the EQ for a few days. ...
Blind Faith 1995 1min 22 seconds
Переглядів 523 місяці тому
I wrote this song in 1995 when, following a verbal conflict between me and a man who always tried to make me the butt of the joke, without knowing the circumstances my then-wife took the other person's side. When it was quickly established that I had been in the right she said, what did you expect, blind faith? I replied well after twenty years together, yes. It's a short song. Even after all t...
Room 101
Переглядів 973 місяці тому
As usual, I had no idea what I was writing about so I just kept writing. Then, one night I was lying in bed thinking about room 101 in George Orwell's book 1984. The next day having re-read my eight A4 pages of lyrics I discovered I'd been writing about how when a man falls in love he becomes overtime emasculated. (Room 101) is a room in the Ministry of Love where the last stage of a citizen's ...
Thinking Out Loud

I wrote this in 1982. It's about reincarnation. A few weeks ago I changed the Key to D major adding C major to create tension. The video shows the lyrics and the chords for the verse. There's also a short clip of the tracks used to build the song. Songwriting is a great and happy hobby once you have no ambition to be "discovered". Thanks for listening, after fifty years of having books filled w...
I'll Never say I Love You

This is a new video for a song I wrote in 2022. I like the lyrics and the tempo of this one. When I was looking for an I'll never say I love you moment I immediately thought of "It's a Wonderful Life" This scene always gets me no matter how many times I watch it.

I created "Robots" about 10 years ago as a soundtrack to one of my social history videos. I always thought it would work with a tango so here we have Jennifer Gray and Derek Hough dancing to Robots.

We Don't Talk Of Love Anymore 3 min 5 Sec
This is in a class of its very own. Congratulations with the collaboration, well done.
This was the first time I'd heard anyone sing my lyrics and the song is as you say in a class of its own. Thanks as always for taking the time to listen and comment its greatly appreciated my friend.
There's surely much in the world to make us feel glum occasionally, Brian. We need to focus on the positive in our daily lives, eat what we want, when we want and as much as we want. Many don't have that luxury; it's a small thing for us but invaluable. Stay safe, mate.
Haha, the hopeless dancer part is me all over, can't dance for nuts. Love the guitar.
I have no doubt that that would be the case, a seasoned crooner would love this. I do. Stay safe, mate.
Well you’ve always been a very good friend to me for a very long time
So right, Brian. I can relate to that. Sitting here, a more or less burnt out wreck, in the service of firms who don't give a damn. Good friends are rare, i have to ask myself; "Have i been a good friend to somebody"? Truth is; not always, depends on circumstances mainly. Not good enough. Well done, Brian. Stay safe, you and your good lady. Love from us.
Again, the lyrics are the focus point. Well done, Brian.
Nice one, Brian. Stay safe, mate.
Pure poetry ...
Thank you, your kind words are much appreciated.
@@brianalexander4857 I knew you could write but this piece is special ... please do what you can to polish it up ...
@@const71 Wow with this kind of encouragement who could say no. Thank you.
WERE ALL IN ROOM 101 ARE YOU KIDDING ME. 👏👏👏
Love it , Brian. As usual the lyrics are exceptional. We should all listen to Goerge Orwell, even from his grave.
You've got it. I've been freed of the fame and money thing with my music also. It's been a joy, an adventure, and satisfying, to say nothing of the learning experience since. BTW..I like your song... it's real and unique. The mind human responds to real and unique and distinct. It remembers. It abhors the artificial.
I totally get it. Thank you for listening and agree whole heartedly with your comment.
Really good, dynamic and interesting melodies. Do you have any plans to add percussion?
Ahh you've hit the nail on the head asking that. My friend who was a proffessional percussionist used to play on some of my tracks and his playing lifted them to another level. If you listen closely, I do bash away at a drum and cymbal now and then. Thanks for listening and commenting.
@brianalexander4857 Oh yeah I do hear it. Thanks for sharing 😊
I like this, though I don't have your knowledge of how to creat tension, etc. I can hear it's more appealing. Well done.
Thanks for listening and I'm glad you like it
I know of what you speak. I too am only now beginning to grasp that myself. We learn.. our desire to express our art, is the motivator. The brain cells, they click and learn when we DO what we love, for what we love.
Nice, but a bit slow for my taste. Take care, Brian.
I initially liked this "country" like song...But it's too long and the video adds very little to the experience. It's a good idea that needs more work in my opinion and the song ending needs to be finalized....These are most of the words you usually use on your comments with other musicians...I let you appreciate them... SV
Another success ❤
That was lovely. Both the music and the performance.
Suits the dancers perfectly. Excellent editing.
I love this, the Tyne Bridge, nowhere says home more than that. Classy shades, too.
This is a clip from one of my Tyneside caught-on-camera videos. The shades were bought when I was on holiday in Klosters, not skiing just walking about looking cool 😄
I think we can all relate. We all have that one that got away.
HaHa too true. Thanks for listening and commenting.
As always, the text is a winner. Thought it was a bit lacking in musical inspiration, but I suppose that's the way you want it to be. Good to hear you're back on track, Brian.
Sad but FAB-U-LOUS 😢😊❤
Excellent guitar playing and sound.. great work!!
Cat Stevens/Bob Dylan.. Love it dude. Great writing. Keep Rockin' :)
Wow Just woke up to your kind words. Thank you so much.
Love the opening riff, and the text is, as usual, brilliant. Stay safe, mate.
Thanks for listening and commenting. I enjoyed recording this one once I'd worked out how to do it. My voice is even a bit better after twiddling a few knobs and standing further away from the mic. All the best pal.
Love it ❤
My Dear Brian: Hi! I just listened and If You are willing to hear me out? Great! This song is not in my Taste. But, My Dear Son: This is only me! God created so many different kinds of people, so many different kinds of tastes. I can appreciate what you have created. Anyone who has the same taste for music will love what You have made. You done did well. A Masterpiece! Never, ever ask what others think of your work! Keep true to yourself. In all that you do... Do for the Glory of God's name and no one will ever be able to put You to shame. The second reason for life.... Write the kind of songs that will help all of God's people forget their pains, even for just a few moments and you will be helping. You are on the right path, My Son. Keep up the good works!!
Thank you how kind of you to listen and make such an enthusiastic and encouraging comment. It's greatly appreciated.
I am not real big on movie names. But I will guess maybe a Jennifer Anniston movie.............Maybe the one where she kind of made her breakthrough.............Leprechaun???????
Not Leprechaun its from an old clssic
Glad to see you're still composing, especially I liked the line where "fools rush in", who but you would have thought of that? Stay safe, Brian.
Sounds great brother
Thanks Mark much appreciated
Immagine, the resources that you'd have had to have to achieve this just a few years ago. Sounds good.
I have more in my studio than the Beatles had at Abbey Road. How things have moved on. I think this is a lovely rendition of a great song. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Unpretentious and soothing, strange to say. Stay safe, mate.
No one can fault you on perseverance, Brian. Loved this.
Just when I think I've heard them all..... you produce this!!! FAB-U-LOUS ❤
Love it ❤
Hello Brian. You're always the one to send me great music pieces and keep contacting me. It's my turn to ask how things are going for you. Hope you have enjoyed the summer and not been cooped up in your studio the whole time. You were talking about cruises and stuff, sounds good, lots of good grub etc. and sunny climes before the winter gets us in its grip. Things are about the same here, Ulla has her oxygen machine and i have regular appointments with the quack to see how things are going, very exciting.....not. As long as things are reasonably stable i don't complain,....much. Haha. No point in that, keep chugging along, mate. Ulla sends her best. See ya.
Love this one, Brian. You get so much into it.
Love it Brian a great song to wake up to! Many of these lyrics I relate to a lot. Great job.
Thanks Kayne I was hoping you'd see this after sharing the lyrics. Have a great weekend
@@brianalexander4857 you too man!
THIS is good and especially liked the chorus.
Hello my friend very nice!
Very Cool.... Pink Floyd / Depeche mode Vibe. Respect Sir.
Catchy melody and I like the Bm and melody at the end of the chorus.
Thats incredible I had to look through my songbooks to see if you were right and you are Bm. Im impressed I only know three chords haha
I didn't do it by ear haha it says on the video 😂
I'm not that musical! Haha
That just dawned on me last night. I was thinking how the hell do people do that then I remembered the video.😀@@kayneseverino7
Probably the way it is for far too many people in today's world.
Brilliant. Loved the lyrics and the accompaniment. So talented but back to square one on dating my darling ❤😊
Great compo love this and you got another subscriber xx🌹♥
Good lyrics!
Fabulous mix of elements, Brian. Love the effect.
Love it, the music, lyrics and diamonds are intriguing ❤
It's best if I leave that question to those with a pay grade than mine. Hehe.
And mine, I'm writing a song about a linen cupboard at the moment so that should be fun 😂
