Whoa!

Good thought. I haver taken off the drive belt. Rotating the alternator manually, its feels good, same for the power steering and water pump. Then rotated the engine manually, very free turning and no noise. so fired it up on the starter(no spark plugs, no injectors plugged in) no banging noise. Problem seems to have gone, further investigation required.

Quite possibly. Today turned the engine over by hand with the spark plugs removed. Nothing appears to be catching. However if the oil pump really had failed, then its likely every moving part will have issues. It was fine when I got back after a drive on sunday, it was only the next day the noise sounded on start up. :(

Found a fix and it wasn't in the engine. The starter motor housing sheered right down between the two bolt holes. So effectibly the starter was bouncing off the flywheel teeth causing the knocking. Luckily the flywheel survived. New starter fitted.

Yes, very concerning. Engine rebuild 4 years ago. Bored out to put in a 383ci stroker kit. Car sounds awsome on Idle and a Nascar on the freeway. Seeing no oil pressure when cranking, this is scary. Every bearing, and camshaft lobe on the rollers lifters could be shot. I have car shows in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the good luck wish. I think I will need it.

Didn't solve it. I fitted and new guage and sensor. I keptp the old one, I may open it up and see if its something fixable.

@@TransAmDan28same problem but solved. It is a short in the wiring after the jack. The wiring loom came loose just rewound it back tight. This is just at the back of the gauge. Hope this helps.

Wasn't good. I rocker broke, and it was the pushrod passing the rocker hitting the rocker cover. Trouble is metal then made it way to the sump, so it was a complete engine strip down to fix it. The block was okay, added a 383 stroker kit. So it was a good excuse for more CC's.

Hydraulic lifter has failed, the roller had stopped going around. Giving he same effect as a bent push rod. However it as wearing on the cam lobe. I was hoping freshening up the top end would fix the issues, but on dismantling and found the lifter with half a wheel on it. We knew it was bad, metal particles in the sump, main bearings has score marks. Engine was completely stripped down and I put in a 383ci stroker kit in it.

Maybe try new leads and from a different place, and make sure the click all the way on. It was like the boot was too short in my video. Cleaned around the coil pack, and put new leads on, and not seen the arching again.

Dan Potter were any other coils sparking? Nearly all of mine are sparking and it's completely random which ones spark or how often they spark. To the left of each coil it's sparking things driving me insane lol

Aj2no17 it was always that one on mine.

You can ground a test light on battery negative , use a spray bottle to mist the wires and coils . Then run the tip of the test light near the wires and coils . Any leaks should arc through the test light to ground . When you have the spark plugs out , look for cracked porcelain and carbon tracking . Also check the boots for carbon tracking or cracks .

If they get away with it then obviously it is not as dangerous as we think it is. I'm not saying he should jump this red light. But traffic lights were invented for cars. No cars, no traffic lights. Often it doesn't matter for a cyclists whether he waits for green or not. Plenty examples of them getting run over by turning vehicles or hit from behind. I wouldn't be surprised if stopping for green is statistically safer.

This was caused by a hydraulic lifter that had collapsed, the roller has stopped going round, worn down to a flat. Crated a lot of metal fragments in the sump. with this metal being shorter, oil was passing through it differently. Causing the pressure fluctuation. The cure to this was a complete rebuild, everything had to be renewed due to the wear caused by the metal in all the oil ways.There may be shortcuts, but I wanted to make sure. +mike martin I didn't take the cam out to inspect. The lifters parts stayed intact in this video, the surclip must have been rattling around the pushrod. However a few weeks later on tickover the lifter did overextend and stop the engine. The engine wouldn't crank over. If this had happened when driving it would have caused some damage. Changed all the lifters and checked the push-rods, cleaned up the heads and got it running again, done around 15k miles since the fix and performance seems fine.

+wordreet Hey, you don't happen to know someone with a rodded 1938 Chrysler Coupe in the Solent/Brighton sort of area do you? She's called Wild Betty and seems to have original paint and a touch of rust. She had sign written doors, though I didn't manage to read what it was as she went past me in the xmas eve traffic. Some garage or similar. I tailed her for a short while and grabbed details of her rear end. Oooer missus!

+Miki Mouse It was the bolt on the transmission, it holds a clamp with rubber in it. This clamp holds the support to the rear end. It screws in horizontally and difficult to get to.

Andrew Benjamin Good luck with the fix, its pretty simple to whip off the water pump to swap out with a new one.

Played back at this speed just to demonstrate the route. there weren't many cars that day, and all behind me. The 18th May is the next convoy of american and Classic cars, so i will sit further back in the pack and record it and play back at the correct speed. It was the water pump in the end, ordered a new one from RockAuto. I took the pump off, and you could feel the shaft in the pump had some play in it. That original pump lasted 170k miles, so it had a good life.
