My Porsche 997 Turbo is still stuck in the parking garage but I found a way to at least make it crank. Still it won't start.

This morning my Porsche 997 Turbo left me stranded in the car park. There seems to be an issue with the tiptronic transmission gear selector. The car says that the connector is not in P or N (which it most certainly is) - without being P or N it won't start. If anyone had this fault before let me know.

My Porsche 997.1 Turbo developed this random problem the car shuts down 10 sec. after start up. It idles okay bus 10 seconds later it shuts down. The problem went away after disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes. After that the car ran fine. Did you have the same problem and have solution ? Let us know in the comments below!

As the Turbo and GT3 share the same architecture for the oiling system this will also apply to the 997 GT3 & GT2 I run Castrol 10w60 year round because the car has higher miles and I use it on the Nürburgring Nordschleife quite regularly. One lap of the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife during Touristenfahrten in my Porsche 997 Turbo from 2007 with the Tiptronic transmission. Recorded on Sunday 09.06.2019.
Well done for giving it a go, and thank you for the commentary. I’m not sure I’d want a Tiptronic 997 turbo after watching this, the gearbox is not very sporting at all. Manual only for me, gives better control.

When the car first starts, it uses both pumps for about 10 seconds. Then decides what pump to use; when the tank is above 3/4 the secondary becomes the primary. Doing a 5-minute battery pull seems to reset the computer so that the primary stays as the primary.. until restart. This means your secondary pump is dead or on its last legs. The connector also melts, so you want to replace the firewall flange connection as well, otherwise, you will be going through fuel pumps like crazy. - Stay off the boost!!
Great lap. I'm interesting to have your point of view on the Tiptronic transmission. Actually, many "Porschist" are saying tiptronic is giving slow speed shift which is not compatible with race driving. Maybe if you are a profesionnal driver you could do better with manual transmission but for a beginner or early advanced driver, not sure it would change a lot. intersting to get your comments on that.
Great! Viele Grüße aus Deutschland. Wie viel Liter Öl kommen denn in den 997.1 Turbo? Würdest du auch das 10W60 empfehlen, wenn man nur 3000 km im Jahr fährt und auf keiner Rennstrecke unterwegs ist?
What size is that oil housing removal tool? I just want to open up my filter housing and change that small o-ring. Apparently that can solve the 997 turbo cold start rattle issue.
@@squicker Same. I changed mine too and it exists. Spoke to a master porsche tech said this is normal and nothing you can do about it. So I stopped caring haha.
Where did you find the small oring I can’t find it on pelican or do you have a part number for it
Eine Update Runde auf dem Ring mit dem Porsche 997 turbo wäre nicht schlecht. Du bist ja jetzt viel erfahrener und streckensicherer. Da sollte eine geschmeidige und nicht zu langsame Runde doch drin sein. Würde mich sehr interessieren.

Yes! - Robert I hope I can safe you a lot of trouble and money. This problem was caused by a bad fuel pump relays. The bad relay melted a part of the wire going to fuel pump (pumps - the car has two) as well. Where are you living ? In Milford, CT there is a shop called Butzigear they know exactly what is wrong (saw them fix a 997 Turbo with this problem on Instagram @butzigear) - mine was fixed by a shop in Germany ... we also replaced the fuel pump which was probably overkill ...sorry for the late reply... if it turns out to be the same thing on your car would you let me know? I like to collect as much knowledge on the 997tt as possible.

Yep I drive in M-mode and use the shift "switches" - honestly they are truly terrible on downshifts but I still use them when on the brakes. Thinking about letting the car downshift on its own the next time.
@@porsche997turbochannel9 Hit the barks before lowering the gear and this significantly improves the downshift. Of course only in manual mode. The situation D is terrible to my taste.
Eventuell schwächelt einfach nur deine Batterie und deshalb spinnt die Elektronik komplett? Er zeigt ja einige Fehlermeldungen an. Schonmal mit überbrücken oder einer anderen Batterie probiert?
Danke für den Tipp ! Hatte auch schon daran gedacht, habe deshalb eine neue Batterie eingebaut, da die alte in der Tat schwach / zu schwach war (nur 11,8V) ... Aber das Problem bleibt bestehen. Im Porsche Forum wird ein schlechtes Massekabel am Motor vermutet, das werde ich gleich überprüfen und schauen ob es das ist. Schlechtes Masse Kabel hieße auch das die Lima die Batterie schlecht laden, was wiederum die schwache Volt zahl erklärt.

Hi mate, went to check your own channel after seing your comment on my lap - that's an impressive driving, I'm happily surprised ! 8:21 BTG after only 30 laps, man you're definitely a good driver ! You've earned my subscribe. Also, at first I was like "don't tell me he's gonna comment the whole lap", and then I found it very interesting, so that's a nice idea you had ! I liked the "tourist guide" approach, saying the name of corners and so on ! Will you go back to the Ring this summer ?
Wow - thank you for this detailed feedback! ... I watch a lot of Nordschleife laps and sometimes I wish the drivers would talk a bit to give some insights what happened that day. Regarding the 8:21, I think most of that time is made up on the straights with the Turbo power. People doing sub 8 Laps in E36s are amazing drivers. Hope to be there some day. Also there is a guy in a stock 718 doing sub 8 ... that video is insanely good. I will go back - right now the car is stuck in a parking garage with a Tiptronic Transmission controller issue ... :D

Jetzt sehe ich gerade, Du schreibst ja auch Deutsch... :-))) Linie sitzt ja soweit, dafür ein Like. :) Du hast aber Reserven bei den Geschwindigkeiten. Das ist aber klar, denn um die zu steigern brauchst Du tracktime, also Erfahrung. Oder auch: Übung, Übung, Übung. Wenn Du sehen willst wo die Unterschiede groß sind, nimm mal diese Runde und meine und steck sie in den UA-cam Doubler. Da kannst Du sie nebeneinander laufen lassen. Ich persönlich finde das feature extrem hilfreich. Außerdem - wenn Dein Ziel, das Du mir geschrieben hast, Ernst ist - empfehle ich die Teilnahme an einem Sportauto Perfektionstraining. Wenn Du in meinem Kanal nach genau diesem Stichwort suchst, findest Du jede Menge Videos dazu. Kurz gesagt ist das ein zweitägiger Trackday auf der NoS, der aus geführtem Fahren mit Profi-Instruktoren und freiem Fahren mit offener Döttinger Höhe (und open pitlane) besteht. Großartig! P.S.: Abo ist klar...
Danke für die ganzen Tipps und Tricks Maody66 - ich hab schon vorher paar mal auf deinem Channel geschaut. Da ist Harry's Laptimer den du eigeblendet hast auch sehr hilfreich um ungefähr zu checken welchen Speed man wo mit durch die Kurve nehmen kann und wo ich noch viel zu langsam bin. Perfektionstraining hatte ich mir auch schon mal angeschaut fand ich auch mega gut - hoffe ich kann demnächst mal sowas machen.
