Joco is looking better every week 👍🏻
Nice job. Merry Christmas 🎄☃️
Now we know why boats are so expensive. the amount of labor that is put into a boat is astounding , thousands of hours! The cost of fiberglass and resin is crazy as well !! Good job guys
Yes !!! It really is a labour of love isn’t it? It’s not for the weak lol. We’re trying to show allllll the prep and work and time that has gone into this - so many UA-cam channels just show like 2 episodes and BAM it’s done !! It’s really not that simple lol
Ps thank you so much for watching & commenting - FIRST COMMENT AWARD! 💪💪
@@sailingjoco Just joined , hope you get back on the water soon.
Aloha, I see you use a Wichard Gyb'Easy. How do you like it? Please tell me.
Hey Doug! We haven’t actually used it yet lol! So far we have just rigged up a full preventer line run from the boom to the bow cleat and back to a winch on opposite side and that has been our go to. We used it on our first ever 3 day sail , feel free to go back and watch that episode ! (North Carolina to South Carolina)
@ thank you. Ill watch that. I bareboat and u never know what yiu might wish you had in a new area and on a different boat.
no detail - what did you buy ?
We do talk a bit of all the items we bought within the video ! I do see that you guys like the full close up ‘haul’ style of all the goods lined up so we’ll def do it that way in the future !
We call the bank and tell them we are traveling.
This is kinda a thing of the past now ! We asked our banks before travelling and that’s what they told us. No need to inform them. Maybe your bank is different ?
Hayho, The more I watch you do, the more I admire you both. I hope you're still excited by sailing after the work is complete. I know you will be but it's still jolly hard graft. David
Thanks David ! That’s a very nice compliment ! This is definitely a huuuge undertaking and with more to come too lol , not just doing the deck ;-)
Love it. Working on the 12 and 24 OZ clock. That's sailing!
You know it !!! So funny Jeff was dead serious about it too 😂😂🍻
It might be dutch power. It is 50hz. Canadian and US power is 60hz. It might mean that the inverter/charger can't process the input voltage properly anyway. If you suspect a failure often close examination of the circuit boards with you multimeter can show the failure. Often burn marks can be observed on faulty components. Testing for resistance can then determine if circuits exist through potentially failed components.. You don't have more advanced diagnostic tools so much more than the basics may be out of reach for you. Keep in mind an inverter can have pretty powerful capacitors that can pack an unwanted electrical punch so letting them drain for quite a while prior to testing might be a good thing.
Hey Allyn thanks for the information, I’m sure it will be helpful for people down the road too! We didn’t have any issues with the hertz / we are on the French side of the island so their power doesn’t go out as often/surge lol. And yup we’ve looked at the board - replaced it ! No signs of burns or anything. Jeff also has used a capacitor to check for voltage before handling any of that , dang we didn’t film that part. So hard to get everything all the time ! Thanks for watching as usual :)
Electrical issues 😵💫 Nice progress , Happy Holiday's 🎄☃️
There’s always something isn’t there? 🤦♀️ Hopefully we can find a solution to it at some point but it’ll have to wait till the decks done ! Happy holidays to you too!
The final stair . Funny😂😂😂
Haha !!! Glad you liked that ;-)
Re the windlass/backing plate install…why worry about the bolts so much? Couldn’t you just back out the bolts after everything sets up avoiding the issue worrying about disturbing the backing plate? Looks like it all worked out the way you did it, so just a curiosity question from me. Many ways to ‘skin a cat!’
When we put the plate down, there was ‘splooge’ of epoxy that got in the bolt holes , so even tho we used Vaseline on the bolts before putting the windlass down, they’d still get epoxy on them inevitably. So we didn’t want keep it down for too long just in case ! Dont wanna seal the windlass to the deck 👌 Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed!
Install a surge protector to the shore power input!
Will think about it ! We don’t have a surge protector but we have a galvanic isolator
My Multiplus also failed after four plus years. And this is when I learned that Vectron’s five year warranty has a few exceptions. The big one is the warranty is six years from the date of manufacture not five years from the date of purchase! I bitch and moaned about this and they offer to sell me a new one at half price with a full five year warranty. I was disappointed but at least they did something. The new one has been working fine for a few years now.
Ugh sorry that happened to you too! At least you received a somewhat ok outcome. We’re SOL :(
@ the continuing joys of boat life. Enjoy your videos. Best wishes. Oh and see that boat that ran aground? If we where there that we be us. We seem to run aground more than anyone we know!
Ya know what they say - there’s two types of boaters - ones that have gone aground and ones who lie about it ;-)
Good job!
Thank you so much ! First comment 🏆👌💪!!!!
gauges parallel with the breaker panel is my vote..
Thanks Jo! Yup that’s what we ended up doing and we’re happy with it. Now to find time to fix up that half-door cupboard 😳 what were they people before us thinking lol
Great episode guys 😊
Thank you kindly ! Makin progress !! :)
That was different!
Variety is the spice of life ya know ?! lol, thanks for watching :)
Jeff and Christin great progress. I'm with Christin on the outlet. Cheers.
Thank you so much !! Yup, we did it the way I was suggesting in the end and are happy with it :) thanks for your comment !
When are you two going to start your boat building company? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😛
No kidding right !! Our consulting business is always open :-) Thanks for watching & commenting !!
You go girl. Feed that inner child. 👍 good job. 🫵 😆
Yes !! Sometimes it’s fun to be a kid again and in WDW it’s encouraged big time haha! Happy to have been able to spend that special time with family building memories :) (and opportunity to bring back boat parts with no shipping costs!) thanks for watching :)
Poor Jeff left behind :D
Lolol :) It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it ;-)
Go off he outlet below it... Someone already oriented that outlet... You'll kick yourself if you don't use the outlet and it's skewed.
Haha it was Jeff that oriented that outlet below 😂 And yes overall Christin won and its straight to the outlet below 👌👌👌
You said at the 24 second mark and at the 21:12 mark, "Oh my Lanta". Guess where l am right now. Klong Nin , Koh Lanta. Watching the 2 hardest boat owners refurbishing the love of their life. while sipping on SangSom on the rocks over looking the waves crash the beach from the Andaman Sea. Love you 2.
Wow that sounds like an amazing view! Both the waves and the jocos on YT 😂😂😂 Yes I do say oh my lanta quite often haha thanks for noticing ! We miss Thailand, hope to be back one day. Thanks for watching we’re glad you’re enjoying!
Were you not allowed to build a tent structure like Travel Sketch?
We are allowed to build a tent but our tarps are doing ok for now. It would be such a hot greenhouse too !!!!
Do you want to share the cost of this project? All the fibreglass and resin and consumables
I have been keeping track best I can so perhaps we’ll share it at the end , ughh I’m dreading adding it all up haha!
HI GUYS!!! It's Char... I found u. I am back to where it started, near Beaufort. Just started watching you, just realized... I know you. Lol. Awesome to see you both.😊
Hahaha ! Hey Char, hope you’re doing well! That’s amazing you started watching and then realized we know each other haha!! Hope you’re enjoying :) Are you casting the lines soon? You keep getting work contracts!
HEY YOU TWO! My boat is in the background. It's been a long time.
Haha !! Seems like such a long time ago now!
Oh God that’s a lot of work! Watching these videos brings me back to my own deck project last summer. It’s been said so often before, but boat jobs can really be horrendous, so so challenging and extremely time consuming! But for those of us who love our boats, it somehow makes sense anyway ❤
Labour of love for sure !! Sorry for the flashbacks !! Ha! But us too will be finished one day and be able to look back at this big project with a ton of pride , we’re lookin forward to that :)
that all looks so difficult, good on you 2 for pushing forward!
So many steps !!!! And a lot of the time there’s a ton of waiting in between because #epoxy Slow progress but we’re doin it !!
I use to call that pallet @8:00 the Amazon pallet!
Haha the Amazon pallet ! So many goodies we found hey ! And didn’t hav to pay shipping 😂
Your core is upside down.
It can go either way ; we had instructions from several professionals to do it this way! Hmmm
You loaded up on the dumpster
Didn't notice on your videos how you adhered the new foam core to the underlying GRP. What did you use?
Yes sorry we weren’t able to film as it’s just two of us with hands full of epoxy lol. We wetted out the surface of both the bottom skin & divinycell foam with unthickened epoxy , let it tack off, then thickened epoxy to peanut butter everywhere to bond
Yeah the hard part is coming . The laying and finishing of the top layer of glass . Try not to use too much filler. It’s tempting to use body fillers but they are soft , try to stick to using epoxy with a thickener . It’s a bugger to sand .
Good advice ! We agree , not to big on using excessive amounts of filler ; weakens what you’re trying to make be strong ! Man this is a lot of work lol
Yeah I just build up boards on the floor between two other boards with lots of pva and weight it . Cut out the pieces I need from that with a band saw
It’s amazing the lengths one must go just to do a simple project hey lol
Im building a fold down transom on my boat. G10 is crazy money , I make it myself .
Yes g10 is $$$!!! We were lucky to get some pieces from a friend that had them leftover 👌
It’s a horrible job ! But you are there , I wish I was to . This is my least favorite time of year . Boat is on the hard and waiting for spring . Snow is coming 😢, 2 years , I’m there
Yes the act of putting your boat to bed every year must get old after a while ! If you can do it, go full time ! In the tropics of course lol.
That meal looked OMG delicious,Jeff you’re a lucky Man 😉
Thanks mark !
Putting the core back in one piece doesn’t make it any stronger.Lot easier to put back together when laminating it.A lot of builders cut the core in small square like 4 or 6 inches.
Good to know! So many ways to do the same thing it’s confusing sometimes lol
