for those that are interested in variacs and dropping the voltage. i built a bucking transformer, or actually a booster transformer that fed a booster transformer. end result was 90 volt supply to may amp. rebiased to 65% heres what i learned plate voltage went from 505 to 365 on my superlead. volume really dropped. best guess was it was like a 35-40 watt amp. it gave the sound everyone is looking for BUT and i do mean BUT, to me it gutted the amp. a superlead is so touch sensitive and just exposes everything you do. this is difficult at first, but eventually you get used to it and play accordingly to it. this was greatly reduced with the 90 volts. the amp didnt sound as big. even adjusted to the same dB it didnt sound as big and open. i love VH and that sound of his, but i put my amp back on wall voltage and biased back to original. 4 EL34s at 505 volts has a sound/feel that i did not want to lose. you also lose the plexi "karang" in my opinion. or its reduced. BTW i use a reviera rockcrusher attenuator. set to about 95bd when playing. sometimes 100db. the amp will do 122-123 db through 2x12s. rock crusher holds it own but it does get warm. this superlead measures 141 watts when measured. so the attenuator takes a beating. this is as beadroom level as it will get. lower than 95 db and i start having trouble with the amp. Anyway, i thought i would love the compressed EVH tone but i didnt when i played it. just food for thought on living with a plexi superlead

There are some questions about the pedalboard which are difficult to answer. In the japanese tour pictures there is a mxr 6 band eq taped on the main amp and pluged directly into it. I sometimes wonder if he didn't use 2 mxr 6 band eq too... The other missing pedal is the schaffer pedal which eddie used as a boost.

Hi Ossie! Great vid! Yes the FX pedal I use for the "EVH "Eruption" ending. Boss Waza Craft DM-2w in front of a MXR Phase 90. DM-2w settings: Repeat Rate: 12 o'clock, Intensity: on full, Echo: 5 o'clock or to taste lower setting for less aggressive. Lower "repeat rate" to slow the effect like the original. The trick to the effect is to run the delay in front of the phase. Ans yes it can be used with an expression pedal. Rock on!

Yes I hear echo after distortion for van Halen 🤠 some 60's music had echo before distortion is does not sound good. Eddy sed he did it though. 🤔

Dimed Amp and variac voltage down to live drum stage volume changes tone and feel of the amp, that type of amp starving sag we can hear on the old tecords, and that gets in to your playing as well, i think its why Eddy slid in to notes, it sounded so good on his rig, his tremolo picking was so compressed, , , , , the perfect storm. 😊 The marshmello amp Tone has so mush of the sonic blueprint of the original amp back then, its amazine.

You got to drop these mixes in to a backing track or Bass and Drums. 😊 it makes all the difference.

Audiothing looks like a good plugin. good interface, useful controles. I will try it 😊

Multi band compressor is interesting because you can say target the highs without compression being activated by the low frequency. real useful in a mix. but guitar players like to use EVERYTHING. 😅

Real Tape half track Tape machines where so good sounding, it's natural compression character is vart guitar friendly.

That Sunset Sound is a great plug in effect. i like in interface controls and the sounds. 😊

Making up for the normal channel with the EQ to match the lead chanbel is a good idea, i was thinking it was to briten the delay signal /add clarity? but is could overdrive the front end for the more gain first albom sounds 🤔

Phase 90 mxr flanger / Marshmallow / line out of Marshmallow to eq / delay wet amp. i bet in the room on the stage that's the best sound. i no Eddy sed he always had the accoplex out front, but thats not the sound i hear live or recorded, it makes distorted eccoes, and does not sound good. 😊

When you were on Tone Talk you should have asked Dave about the live Eruption Univox solo setup. I'm pretty sure Dave has said Eddie has a different amp he would switch to solely for just the live Eruption solo section.
