    Anyway to clone the C ASIC chip on to another known good one? China might have a similar chip available and the software to clone it? Sometimes the RAM section in the chip just lost its memory and can be be reprogrammed.

    The two lights flash on top (you can change the delay or turn it off too) is its BREATH function. since the screen is asleep... these flashes are just to indicate the unit is still powered on since there is no other indication that it is on. Just so you can tell if it is off or on.

    As an audio-repair bench tech, I used a similar AOYUE desoldering station for 5 years before retiring; I didn't care for the solder-capturing spring inside the collection chamber and substituted a wad of medium-grade steel wool instead. The spring is too difficult to clean out unless you grease it, which is smelly and messy. I suggest you also test the tip included with the soldering iron to see if it is strongly attracted to a magnet throughout the tip and at the back end, or if it is only magnetically attracted at the tip (like it's supposed to be). Thermal transfer is far superior if the tip is made of plated copper, with iron plating at the pointy business end only, to prevent the solder and flux from eating away at the copper ---- but a lot of Asian manufacturers are making the tips out of solid steel or iron which is a much poorer conductor of heat. You can easily determine whether the tips are good or bad, with a magnet; I posted a video on my channel about this recently.

    • @waynephillips1848
      @waynephillips1848 Місяць тому

      Hi, thanks for the write up, i can confirm removing the tip removed from the solder iron handle, both ends are magnetic (tip is solid steel) .

    • @goodun2974
      @goodun2974 Місяць тому

      @@waynephillips1848 , buy high quality compatible tips made of copper and your soldering will go faster and easier, without damaging foil traces. You may have to pay $5 or $6 per tip but they'll last longer and work better. If you buy them from a specialty electronics distributer in your own country, you can more easily return them for a refund if they turn out to be inferior quality.

    • @goodun2974
      @goodun2974 23 дні тому

      @@waynephillips1848, buy some same-size compatible tips from a known manufacturer (Hakko?) and you'll find that the heat-transfer function works faster and better. Good tips will be almost completely solid copper but with a coating of iron to resist the dissolving effects of molten solder and flux. Buying tips directly from China through Amazon eBay Banggood, AliExpress etc will invariably net you crappy knockoff or counterfeit tips made of inferior materials. I don't know if the AOYUE desoldering tips are compatible (they seem unique to Aoyue) but those were particularly interesting because the stainless steel pipe that protrudes from the front end of tip (nice for desoldering closely spaced pins), and which travels completely through the heating element into the solder-collecting tube, is non magnetic and virtually impervious to solder (for long life) but the molded part of the tip was made of plated copper. Anyway, if you find better quality compatible tips that will fit the Yihua, please let us know what they are and where you got them from.

    any ideas for the following fault. Son was watching TV, Sharp Aquos. half way through a progamme and it just switched off randomly and will not power back up. Showing no power at all. Changed fuse in the plug etc but no power at all. Any ideas. Its about 4 years old. Thank you

    • @waynephillips1848
      @waynephillips1848 Місяць тому

      If you are not getting the standby Light on its most likely a failed power supply, sometimes with switch mode supply's if you place your ear close the the TV and switch on the TV you can hear a ticking sound, if you hear this sound most definitely a failed power supply. Either way if the Power supply is faulty then a repair/service would be required.

    That's a weird failure for a polyester film cap at relatively low voltage. As you say, MOSFETs normally fail short, so good catch! For the drivers to fail is odd though as they are normally killed by a shorted MOSFET, although they are extremely sensitive to a difference in the voltage between the input and drive side ground voltages.

    Hi Wayne, Loved your vids, got me set up. However, I have an interesting problem... I am running WSJT-X with my IC-7700 connected to my iMac (2017) running macOS Ventura 13.6.7. Everything appears to be ok on settings, Audio/Radio, etc. The problem is, when I go to transmit I can only get WSJT-X to transmit once and only once. Any subsequent transmissions without having to exit out of the software fail. I know I'm getting out on that one transmission, as I've seen signal reports on the PSKReporter. Any clues, suggestions, assistance would be appreciated in figuring out what might be going on. Tnx & 73, KI0AR

    I have the same unit but the right channel doesn't work at all. (Meter inactive and if you put the switch to track 3-2 and rise the volume all the way up you barely hear a tiny bit of treble.) I believe a capacitor somewhere in there has dried and shorted internally, because if I add a higher voltage to the right channel input or the right side of the head it temporarily starts working again and sounds a little distorted. Left channel is perfectly fine. Any recommendations on which components I should replace?

    Good video. I was about to buy one but if you can't run the desoldering gun and iron at the same time it's not worth it to me. It's like driving your car. If you have to wait two minutes to go from drive to reverse and another two minutes to drive it doesnt seem practical if you are doing a lot of component replacements.

      I previously had a pace unit, that you could run both at the same time, but it cost over 4 the cost of this unit, all i needed was a dedicated desolder unit, the soldering iron was a bonus for me.

      its to change the tips while the tip is still hot. But I wouldn't recommended it unless it's good quality.

    I'm thinking of getting a Creworks lathe. Have you used yours very much, have you had any problems with it? Thanks.

      Hi, i have used the lathe for quite a few hours, I would say the only problem i have come across is the Variable speed control knob, intermittently when turned to 0 RPM the chuck still rotates very slowly, a quick rotate up then back to 0 seems to cure the problem. hope this helps.

    Hi, good job, I am doing the transistors replacement in my GX 4000. Not doing the capacitors at the moment because I heard the old ones are usually good.. Did you find any to be faulty when you replaced them?

      Hi, If you have taken the effort to take the unit apart i would defiantly do the caps, to be honest i never tested the caps i removed, the caps dry out over time, might save you having to do the job twice.

    Hi Wayne, great videos for doing this work. Is there any chance of getting a full buy list along with the drawings required to install? Would be very helpful to have the latest and most correct tasks etc all in one place. Along with the settings.

      Hi, start of video 6 and end part of video 5 hopefully will give you the information you need, I have since sold the Duet and moved on to modifying CNC routers, although the electronic's for the Duet worked perfectly I think the setting in mach3 for the motor tuning and port setting would benefit from a little tweaking based on the PC you are using.
