Homefront: What Went Wrong?
Who wants to spend an hour picking apart a mid-tier FPS that’s over a decade old? Me, apparently. Marvel as I take Homefront entirely too seriously and complain about the myriad ways the story went wrong. I swear this started as a project that was going to focus only on the story, but then things kind of spiraled out of control.

Nebulous: Missile Design Corrections and Omissions
Переглядів 677Рік тому
After my last video went live, I realized there were some things I either forgot to say, or said things that, in retrospect were, misleading. Not a good thing for videos aimed at new players, so here is a short addendum to address those problems. Corrections to this Video: ua-cam.com/video/3NyL10hrX58/v-deo.html
Nebulous: Missile Design for Beginners
Переглядів 3,9 тис.Рік тому
The audio quality on my last video was frustratingly poor because of my terrible mic. Hopefully this is a little better better. Topic for today is missile design for new players to Nebulous: Fleet Command. Here, I demonstrate some example missiles and discuss their design a bit. Some of the specifics in missile components are covered, as well as general things to consider when making missiles f...
Nebulous: Beginner's Ship Design Principles
Переглядів 4,2 тис.Рік тому
After getting a handle on playing against AI fleets and diving into the fleet designer, I thought it would be worthwhile to share some of what I've learned to help newer players. Covers broad design principles on designing ships in Nebulous: Fleet Command.
Nebulous Tutorial: Afterthoughts
Переглядів 782 роки тому
Now that I've gone through all of the tutorials, what do I think? Listen to me discuss that for about 10 minutes here. I might end up posting a video of myself playing my first skirmish mission against AI's a bit later, but until then I hope this has been an interesting look at how a new player learns to play this game. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorial 8: Missile Defense
Переглядів 1412 роки тому
The final tutorial, and the only one where I'm the one being shot at. In this lesson, I learn how to maneuver to avoid a missile attack, take advantage of decoys, and see anti-missile defenses at work. Soon I will be fully qualified to lead ships into battle where nothing will ever go wrong. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorials 7: Target Reference Points
Переглядів 1332 роки тому
In today's lesson, I learn a streamlined method to creating missile waypoints. While it has some limitations, the technique seems important for getting a large number of strikes out quickly. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorial 6 Advanced Missile Tactics
Переглядів 1192 роки тому
This is the tutorial I've been most looking forward to, and also the most intimidated by: how to take advantage of guided munitions to strike targets effectively. It takes a little getting used to, but isn't nearly as bad as I feared. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorial 5: Advanced Maneuvers
Переглядів 782 роки тому
Time to learn about a feature I don't think I've seen in any other space strategy game: maneuvers that allow ships to point in directions that don't necessarily conform to a simple plane. Normally this has been kept completely outside the control of the player, in my experience, either handled completely automatically or largely handwaved. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on...
Nebulous Tutorial 4: Senors and Electronics
Переглядів 572 роки тому
Being able to move around and shoot is nice, but it would be nice to be able to find enemies to shoot at. Being able to repair damage is nice, but going undetected so I don't take damage in the first place would be even better. Time to learn how to do that. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorial 3: Damage Control
Переглядів 382 роки тому
Being able to shoot at other ships is nice, but it turns out the enemies don't like that and might shoot back. Time for me to learn how to deal with the damage that enemy weapons might inflict upon my ships. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorial 2: Weapons
Переглядів 972 роки тому
Now that I know how to move, I am allowed to fire at a very dangerous derelict frigate with ballistics and missiles. Will command regret releasing me on a live-fire range? Maybe, but it should be fun at least. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorial 1: Movement
Переглядів 2022 роки тому
Watch me fumble while learning how to tell warships how to go from point A to point B in Nebulous: Fleet Command. Unfortunately, I the game dialogue is louder than I expected. I will try to fix that in future videos, but since this is a blind playthrough I decided against going through a second time to get better audio. Nebulous: Fleet Command is currently in early access on Steam.
Nebulous Tutorials: Introduction

An experiment I've decided to do, recording myself playing through the tutorial of Nebulous: Fleet Command blind to document my experience with it. Expect this will mostly only interest game developers, so if that is you I hope you find this to be time well-spent. If it isn't you, I appreciate your interest and hope I deliver on whatever you came here looking for. Nebulous: Fleet Command is cur...
This is a really helpful way to think about ship design, thanks!
This looks cool. I think I’ll check this game out.
amazing work
Love the talk about only needing to do a job good enough. This alone is going to probably save me over 500 points in my main fleet that I can spend on more weps.
Promo SM 😩
What a fantastic presentation. Thank you
The missile knows where it is by knowing where it isn't...
So does cold vs hot launch really not matter all that much?
Hot launch seems to be better if you are launching at targets at very short range, such as firing missiles at a target inside it's point defense envelope, since it gets the missile moving sooner (giving the PD less time to engage). You do need to be a bit careful when doing this, however, as the missile needs to be maneuverable enough to turn toward the target with its main engines lit. It can also be useful for Anti-missile missiles, especially if you are giving them a shorter range (although I've had luck with both cold and hot launch AMM's). Cold Launch is generally better outside those situations as it requires less clearance from the launcher. The ship does check to ensure there is enough clearance between the launcher and obstructions before firing, so if you are near rocks and the launcher is currently pointed toward the rock, there may be a delay before the missile fires as the ship will need to maneuver until the missile launcher has the required clearance. Even then, if the missile isn't maneuverable, it might still hit the rock despite passing this clearance check since it might not be able to turn fast enough to avoid the rock. As a general rule of thumb, I make missiles cold launch unless I have a compelling reason to make them hot launch.
@@skyelansing2311 Thanks Very informative you really should think about making a video about it I haven't seen it covered anywhere else
Are you sure Command Guided Missiles can use TRPs? I just tested that to no avail.
They can, however they require a cruise guidance. If you use direct guidance, they cannot.
What's the click-order then? In the TRP tutorial, it was 'select weapon in track mode' then 'select TRP' then 'select target'. Is that correct for cruise CMD?
Impressive!
15:28 Pretty sure the cruise guidance system is the same price as direct.
Apparently I misremembered
Is there a way to have all your missiles hit time on target? At the sametime? Wish I could shoot missile loads out, have them loiter, then pile a few together to go all at once to saturate their defenses. Instead of relying on multiple ships to do so.
My impression from the discord is that the dev is working/has plans for simultaneous missile strike tools. You do get a time to target currently, so you can arrange multiple strikes being somewhat coordinated, but it takes effort.
The developer has mentioned that he has plans for a feature update that will include mixed salvoes, multi-shooter strike planning, and time-on-target.
2:37 I have found that any missile with a corkscrew terminal maneuver really needs to prioritize maneuverability. Or it'll often miss targets. Like.. a decent amount 10-15, 25%. Cool video. Game is already so much more complex than when it first came out. I just have so many games it's hard to focus on one so complicated.
I've found the accuracy of corkscrew depends on 3 things: the size of the target, the angle the attack comes at the ship from, and the maneuverability of the missile. Thus, if you're coming at the target from the side or are firing at something large, you can really skimp on the maneuverability. That said, my experience has been using corkscrew is generally a mistake for missiles intended for targets any smaller than a light cruiser. It's also worth saying that making a missile TOO specialized tends to go poorly in most cases.
Very helpful overview, thanks!
Glad you found it useful.
Well done, I screwed up the last attack constantly, doing it quickly helps. Thanks for the video!
Thank you, though I admit to feeling like I got lucky in that attempt.
@@skyelansing2311 Maybe a bit, but I tried it so many times :/ I need to lea towarsa other weapons than missilea I fear :D In my like fourth run or so I had a minor bug and could not continue the mission.
Already play this lesson in tutorial, but don't understand very well. Your voice is low and didn't listen very well, but your video help me understand the mechanics. Thanks bro!
Yeah, my mic is not good at all. I've tried to fix that in my latest 2 videos, though I think there is only so much that can be done. I appreciate the feedback though. Thank you.
Also when multiplayer, be extremely careful of ppl jamming you because a good way to fire missiles is to jam and then send missiles down range when you can’t see a damn thing!
Thanks for all the information and the comments. I'm still very much just learning the ins and outs of the mechanics. Unfortunately, lots of things keep me from playing as much as I would like right now, but I'll be sure to experiment with this stuff.
Also as you experienced if you get toooo far away from your decoys the decoys won’t confuse the missiles. Hazel is not lying to you but you followed her instructions very zealously
Actually the scryer only identifies missiles. Your cic has basic intelligence decrypting to determine and identify ships
