very nice! thanks man!
My pleasure. Happy to help.
Great job. I have Plygem single hung windows with a few panes with moisture. The windows were still under warranty and they shipped me 3. The window sash do look different but I feel your method could still work. Any idea or thoughts? Thanks .
Thank you. I know mine looked different. Do they just look like glass with nothing else. That’s how mine looked. I think it will come together when you start the process. Hopefully. Haha
You made the job understandable. Thank you. Now the hard part. I don't know who made my windows. Is this pretty much how all brands of vinyl windows are made? Is there a way of determining the size of the replacement pane before actual removal? Where do you buy the replacement? Lot's of questions about the hardware but your video makes the doing a whole lot easier. Thanks X 2.
My pleasure. Glad to help. The only way I know is there should be stickers on the inside jams. That you can see from in the house. If not - maybe take the bottom pane out and see if on there. And measure that pane.
Thank you
What’s the name of the tape that we need
Glazing tape
Where can I get the trim pieces? Mine all broke.
Hi there. I would say from the window manufacturer. They shipped me the new trim pieces with the windows.
You make it look so easy When I followed your tutorial I had no issues The foam tape around the window was hard to find Thank you!!
Awesome!!!! Glad it helped!! Great job! 🎉
My single hung was from Home Depot, a 2160/2300 series best I can determine. I cannot find a replacement glass. Any help?
Home Depot is no help??
Thank you for sharing. I didn't have a clue where to start replacing the fixed upper pane, with the help of your video now I'm ready to try it.
Great. I’m glad it helped. Good luck!!!
This is an excellent video, thanks for posting. I have the exact same situation on my PlyGem windows and have received six replacements to install. Want to DIY so this was great. Found answers to my questions in your responses below. Thanks.
Hi there. You are welcome. I'm glad you found the answers. I got mine with the new window panes. I have some extra. Its is 1/2" wide and 1/16" thick. Sticky on both sides and the 1/16" is basically a spongy layer. I hope that helps. Thanks again.
Christ! A lot of theatrics for something so simple!
I’m glad you are very good at it! I wish you had a video of it when I needed one.
Thank you. Finally found a video with sash like mine.
My pleasure. Glad it was helpful.
How did you get the replacement sash? My son decided to drive a golf ball through it.
Hahaha. I went through the window company. Called Simonton Windows. I’d call the maker of your current windows.
My brand new Windows have one corner on all of the bottom sashes where the tilt latches don't snap back into the frame without an excessive amount of force. What can this mean and what is the fix?
I would contact whomever installed them. Sounds like they aren’t square. Or perhaps to tight in the frame.
Much thanks!
My Pleasure
Very helpful. Thank you.
You’re welcome
I got mine from Simonton Windows. You could try that. Or your brand if you know it
Where can I get the upper sash for my window? Your response is greatly appreciated.
Where did the parts come frome, Window glass and latches[springs
Got them from Simonton. That’s what the original windows were.
I broke the bottom sash by accident, the one that tilts and can be removed easily. Can I replace just that sash or do I have to replace the top half (shown in this video) as well? Do manufacturers sell the bottom sash by itself?
Yes. For sure they would sell the bottom sash.
If it have been helpful if you had shown how you removed the bottom sash.
The bottom sash moves up and down. You just tilt it in and then lift one side up and it comes right out.
Thank you for the video this helps out a lot for a DIY person
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
You did not show how to take the windows sash out
It’s a single hung window. So the bottom sash moves up and down. The top is stationary. All it has is the pane of glass. This video shows how to replace that pane of glass.
Where did you get the sash from?
From the window manufacturer. Simonton. The sticker on the window frame should have manufacturer and sizes.
🤔🤔🤔 excellent question!
Curiosity overwhelms me. Why didn't you paint/stain or treat the PT 2x4 that would be under the door? It will increase the longevity of the PT.
Excellent video, thanks
My pleasure. Glad it helped!!
But this video shows replacing the upper glass, not the entire sash (glass with frame).
Yea. That’s true. 👍🏻. Taking the whole sash out should be much easier I would think.
What is the tape you used on the interior? Is there a link to it?
I don’t have a link. I’m sorry. The window company sent with the window. But it’s basically just a double sided foam tape.
Looks like Webster homes
S&A 😂
where did you buy the replacement top glass from?? Company name please?
Simonton
Appreciate the knowledge passing. However we don't really need to hear you talk for 15 minutes. Still appreciate it
Mute it. 🤷🏻♂️.
The whole thing was enormously helpful, particularly the detailed narration.
Nice video!👍
Thank you! 👍🏻
Great video!
Thank you.
Yes, you certainly replaced it.
I sure did
great video, very well taught. I was looking for something different. I recently had new windows installed and now want to add a window air conditioner. The single hung window have lower sash stops and I am not sure if they can be removed since the current opening is to short in height to have a standard A/C fit? Being that they are new windows, I don't want to just force the stops out and maybe break or damage it. I am sorry I don't have the name of the manufacturer. but they must be Canadian. Any thoughts you might have would be very helpful. Thank you and thanks for sharing.
Send a pic of the stops. They usually pop out pretty easily.
How remove bottom? You skipped
The bottom pane moves up and down. You just tilt it in and lift one side up and it comes out.
Ah I see, I bought my house in foreclosure, no labels on the window, any other way to identify it, I am sure they are contractor grade.
Not that I know of. I’m sorry!!!
What company did you buy sashes from?
Simonton
This is a great video and a great alternative to replacing the entire window. My glass is cracked from a bird strike so it wouldn’t be covered under warranty. Do you know where I could order this window glass?
I ordered mine direct from Simonton. Should be a sticker in your window frame with maker?
Thanks for the video ! Can you tell me if the tape was butyl, and was the thickness 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch. Here in canada off of amazon it is around 40 dollars, does this seem right? Thanks again, well done!
You’re welcome. Hope it helped. It’s polyethylene, and it 1/16. On Amazon here it’s about $20 usd for 150 feet
JVCC DC-WGT-01 Double Coated Window Glazing Tape: 1/16 in. Thick x 3/8 in. x 50 yds. (White)
Thanks for fast response !!!!
Thanks again ,Just ordered the tape my window seems to take 1/2 inch, it was around 50 or 60 cdn dollars, still better then hiring a contractor !!
Great video, thanks …..
Thank you. Glad it helped.
From your experience, would replacing the glass in the bottom sash be the same or do you have to buy a whole new sash?
I think it could be the same. But easier because that whole window should come out. I’d probably just get the whole new bottom window and remove it as if cleaning it.
Thank you great video slow and explained well
Thank you. I’m glad it helped. 😀
You showed what you did but not really how you did it
Do you know brand of double sided tape and where to buy? What size tape?
It came from Simonton windows when they sent the new sash’s. It was about 1/4” thick.
thank you. I was having trouble but after watching your video i was able to remove and install my window. YAY...
Awesome!!!! Glad it helped.
What did you have to provide to Simonton as far as information to get the correct sash?
There should be a sticker around the edge of the window frame that has an order number and part number.
@@srakfleming5888 thank you! I found that. Just wanted to make sure! Appreciate it!
@@tp081234 awesome. Good luck.
Do you have a video to tell how to measure replacement window glass, and where do you order the glass
The measurements should be on a sticker up in the window frame. My windows were Simonton, so I just called them and gave the measurements from the stickers.
Thank you! Very well done… clear and helpful.
Thank you Gar. Glad to help.
Thank you so much! Only difference is my pieces around the window to remove were on the outside and the putty knife seal to break was on the inside. I would have never figured this out without your video
Interesting. I’ve never seen it that way. But I’m glad it helped. I couldn’t find a decent video explaining it, so I thought it was good to do. Thanks again!!
