Hazmat Modine - Delilah's Lament (excerpt)
Ein wunderbares Porträt eines beeindruckenden Menschen!
I absolutely love this song, but there seem to be no written down lyrics for it anywhere
Thing is he varies the lyrics with each version so they change slightly each time. Beautiful haunting song. The lyrics (as far as I can tell) are: "when I was a boy, I dug a hole in the lawn (six feet deep, six feet long) Narrow like a grave and when I lay inside, I'd see the sky above me and watch all the clouds roll by The best piece of advice that I ever had is to never go to church with blood on your hands You wash them like a madman in a sink full of dirty pans, he wouldn't let me go until he shook my hand Chorus: Every night I wake up from the same crazy dream, this old world just ain't what it seems. I visited with a friend he never took out the trash, smashed down all his milk cartons and grinded all of his ash, and his freezer was solid ice, I'd never go into the back He took care of his family though, he was a good man (Chorus) There's bodies in the cemetary that ain't got no names at all, there's names without the bodies lying in the memorial wall, I ran across a man he was 9 feet tall, he said it all made him weak, he'd never survive the fall (Chorus) Boys got out to drag race on that old Mcallister Road, revving up some Pontiac and a sixty four Ford, they found them all the next morning when the fires was growing cold, came back to the chapel on the back of some farmer's load (chorus) When I got back home, I dug a hole in the lawn (six feet deep, six feet long), narrow like a grave and when I lay inside, I closed my eyes to the sky above and I floated off to die."
Sneaky Piano rip! Love it.

My coal mining Dad died last year with COPD and he was as a shell of the big strapping man he was and it was heart breaking to watch his decline. He did it so we would have what we needed. Love you Dad. He is a peace now.
Great gitar player!!! ❤Willy Amsterdam NL

Just saw Matt Live - Wow! What a voice and guitar playing - A MUST see ! So much better seeing him live than on UA-cam.
I just put him on my bucket list of performances…his voice is beyond
Dang. I think I cried.
I know I did
I discovered Matt approx 15 years ago when he was playing at the annual Vancouver Folk Festival. I have every album he has recorded and there is at least 2 albums at a time in my 24 slot CD case in the car (yeh, cds is a car, I'm old enough to be his mama... old school all the way). Matt Anderson is a nation treasure, a hard working Canadian man who isn't afraid to chase his dream. Watch every video available on YT... you'll be buying tickets the next time he rolls through your town. Peace to all, hugs from Canada :)
❤🔥✨️🎶🎶🎶
Great song. very good playing.
Thank you!!
❤
It is such a shame that he stopped playing this song after he heard Eva's version. I am sure that is not what she would have wanted, Music is not a competition. It is about taking part and he brings his own truth to this beautiful song
Doug didn't stop playing Nightbird, as you can see in this video. Maybe you can ask for it on one of his shows. No guarantee though.
I very much appreciate your reply. I read somewhere that he didn't sing it again and that bothered me.@@theolooijmans5293
@theolooijmans5293 he definitely stopped playing it for a long time after he heard her version. From an interview: Alan: Your songs have been recorded by many artists, so which are your favourite interpretations? Doug: I have a couple of favourites. One was Eva Cassidy’s version of Nightbird. That song is about a prostitute, a prostitute that I used to live with who really watched out for me. I have no idea if Eva Cassidy knew what that song was about and I never heard it until my wife played it for me during a drive to Los Angeles from San Luis Opisbo. I’m a huge baseball fan and my team, the Cardinals from St Louis, were playing the Dodgers and I wanted to listen to the game. My wife said “I got something for you to hear”, and I said, “But the Cardinals are on” and she said “This is more important than the Cardinals” and she put this CD on of Eva Cassidy. I tell you, it moved me so much, I pulled over to the side of the road and I was weeping. I have never done that song again. When people ask me to do Nightbird, I tell them that if they want to hear THE version, she is the one to listen to
Only so few can get it right. And this is right.
I was there with Buckka and other friends when he played Aberdeen in our living room. I heard him play this sitting in the most intimate setting you could imagine. He had come to play the Grand Valley State Blues Festival in Allandale mi. Buckka needed a place to stay for the weekend and we had the good fortune to have him stay with us. Jim Steigmeyer and other musicians and friends were there one afternoon when music filled our house till late in the night. Over time I have learned to appreciate what a privilege it was.
Yer thanx.
I love finding these little treasures ... since seeing Lloyd perform here in central BC Canada last winter (for the 1st time ever) ... always looking for those treasures. Great as always! Love that sassy trombone too.
That's fire. Best cover of this I've ever heard. Great voice.
Oh, wonderful!
Good try.Have you ever heard Doc do it?
He should still be all over British retro TV. But that's not the point. In a sense, this is where he belongs. With the greats.
Nice
I can't get enough of Lloyd''s music.
