NorthEast Ohio Catfish
Приєднався 20 жов 2011
My name is Robert and I was born and raised in Northeast Ohio. Ohio as a whole has many incredible parks, rivers, reservoirs, lakes and one great lake. Ohio is also one of only 8 states left where access to the parks is free. Northeast Ohio is my home and that's what I want to show you. My goal is to catch big catfish and if I can help somebody else catch a big catfish that's just a bonus.
More in common than just Catfishing
Took a fellow Marine out on the Bastard with me for a morning of fishing.

Some technical difficulties on my first attempt at uploading this but I think I figured it out. Trying a different approach. Editing takes forever. So we're going to try some unedited videos.
One more inch and a new PB, TWICE!

First major emergency in the Bastard. I had a hub break on the trailer while I was doing about 60 on the highway, scared the you know what out of me but somehow we made it through.

Didn't get too much fishing done in this video but today wasn't about the catfish. It was about the Bastard and a year of hard work finally paying off. On her 60th anniversary this 1964 Sea King has never looked better.

The new motor has been installed. Now just some minor things to do and the bastard should be on the water soon.

Santee rigs with cut bait in the shallows. I've given up on the chicken for now.

Cut bait and garlic chicken on santee rigs. Once again nothing touched the chicken. Now I just have to work on getting them in the boat.

Right next to the very loud 422 causeway. Santee rigs with cut bluegill was all they would touch.
It's almost too easy sometimes

Just on the edge of the wildlife refuge again. Slip bobber and santee rigs with dark water premium baits asian carp filets and garlic chicken.
Finally got some fishing in

Spent the morning at the northern end of mosquito. I was using dark water premium baits carp filets and good old garlic chicken on some santee rigs.
I think I caught the one you released today! lol
I think I caught the one you released today! lol
Nice video. Did you see anyone crappie fishing
@@rickyrishel8198 I actually did. Two guys going out the same time I was were headed out crappie fishing. I don't know how they did though
😂 Me and my sister watched it and were laughing at the part where we got your behind instead of a fish! I know I was terrible with mumbling and in the way of the camera too! Thanks again for taking me out fishing with you brother, you’re a stand up guy, and I had I good time getting into some big channels. Look forward to fishing with you again!
@@dustincrooks602 thanks. It was a good time. Hopefully we can do it again next year.
@@northeastohiocatfish definitely! Hopefully I get a good Flathead spot to share with you by then too!
I love this unedited version. You have made us amp up what we do and take the kids. They all got fish Ohio! Fishing kids are born. We look for you every time we are on mosquito. Even if we don’t fish with you, would love to meet ya man!
@@kellidevol1985 thank you
I use the looping feature set on 20 min. Just have to make sure to hit the button after catching a fish. Saves alot of time editing. Thought about going to 5 but that is too short if you get a double. I just switched to insta 360 x4. It is nice as you can set the looping to 10. That is about perfect for me. I just need to update my computer as editing is tough on my old dinosaur.
@@whytetalesoutdoors I like leaving the camera roll for the candid shots or me screwing up somehow. Always good for a laugh. I feel your pain on the computer though. I had to upgrade over the winter. Now one of these days I have to invest in a better camera, mines a dinosaur.
@@northeastohiocatfish the looping is always recording but will overwrite once it hits the 20 min or until you stop recording. This way the action of the fish or the screwup is in the last couple minutes of the footage. Makes it easier to find the footage you need. I am liking the 360 camera. You can change easily what the angle is to center the action. I have been using the 360 in my last couple videos. The new computer is on my Christmas list for sure. lol
Good to see you brother! I’d fish with ya sometime… I’ve been down south all season still chasing the big Flathead’s, but not catching them, and learning how fracking destroyed the lakes. Managed to catch some dinks though at least!
@@dustincrooks602we will have to set something up. Shoot me an email sometime let's see if we can't come up with something. northeastohiocatfish@gmail.com
When are you fishing again
Soon, I got a couple I'm working on.
Do you know a good place to fish on the bank? I saw that big ass flathead you caught. Good catch my friend
@@darryltate2003 causeway is a top destination and the cemetery on the south eastern side was always a favorite.
I didnt know Mosquito had flatheads i thought it was channels only
Nope, it has flatheads
I will have to make it a trip sometime. im about 30 min away in south geneva used to heading north for fishing lol
I'm in kinsman ohio I know exactly what you mean
You sound alot like eric from south main auto repair youtube channel lol. Im camping at mosquito next weekend and plan on bank fishing every night with cut bait on a santee rig. Hoping to get my first flatty. Ive heard there are blues in mosquito that were stocked in the 60s
Ive gotta ask how do you cook them from start to finish im trying to find a good recipi hate strong fish taste thats why i go for yellow perch crappie and walleye
You name it, we eat it. My favorite is smoked with a sweet wood like apple or cherry. My kid loves them grilled with a garlic and herb crust. My wife is a beer batter lover. I do try to get as much fat off as possible along with soaking the filets in a water/salt/vinegar solution. I hear people use milk to soak fish in before cooking to take out the fishy taste, I never have but maybe give that a try.
That lakes taken a few good men when the weather changes quick one I knew he was wader fishing for walleye on the south end right where you where at
@@EricLaney-n1k mother nature is a real bitch! Gotta keep your head on a swivel whenever you mess with her 😂
@northeastohiocatfish yes sir you ever fish Orangeville river or shanango lake
@@EricLaney-n1k not yet but I just put them on my list
Lol been there on that cast
@@EricLaney-n1k all you can do is laugh or break something! I try to 😂
Hell of a good day 👏👏
@@freedomfishingOH appreciate it
Got some nice cats there! Did some shore fishing on the south end yesterday. Bluegill & a few perch but it was relaxing!
@@Llama1077 thank you. Glad you could get out. Getting back that small piece of mind is important.
I was SOOOO happy when you broke out the scale! 🎉 IMO measuring fish is for bass, crappies and walleye because you could measure a fish at 40” that weighs high 20’s and another that weighs almost 40lbs. Maybe a bit extreme of an example but the point remains. At any rate that was a hell of a day breaking your PB twice! The first one looked like my PB I caught there last year at 12.x! Well done brother! You selling that kayak?!
Not selling the kayak yet. Still got a couple lakes that my boat won't go. Probably in a year or 2 though because now I'm looking into a small job boat🤣 Those weren't PBs unfortunately. My PB channel is 33 inches on the nose. Those were both 32 and change🤷
@@northeastohiocatfish oh my bad… I misunderstood your title.
@@dustincrooks602 no worries. Maybe I'll get it tomorrow. Here's to hoping!
@@northeastohiocatfish good luck brother! Hope I see you out there one day… it would be great to share fishing stories and pick your brain.
@@dustincrooks602 ain't much left to pick but I up for it🤣
Damn nice couple of nice Channel cats!
@@bobbates6597 thank you. I was shocked
Nice video great catch
@@rickyrishel8198 thank you
The record Chan came from ladue and I always catch them there. From the spillway to the whole other side of the lake. They always eat the white perch which you can catch anywhere on that lake. Just drop a worm down anywhere and you’ll get a perch. There’s a nice whole near the bridge off of 44 I always hook into a 20 plus pounder there. The only place you won’t find a lot of cats there are on the flats most days. People rag on ladue hard but I could fill my cooler with panfish and carp there daily just need to know where to go.
@@Dr.Ballsonya couldn't have said it better myself
Was beginning to worry about ya! I haven’t been to the bay in a few years but nicely done!
@@dustincrooks602 nicely done by Ryan, I was there for the ride🤣 but thank you
I just ordered the 10.5 ft with the pedal drive. I've had a Lifetime Tamarack paddle kayak for 3 years and love it but decided I wanted to go hands free. I'm also Medina county. Maybe we'll see you on the water?
@@VAFSH4LIF Good luck! Hope you love it. It's a small world, I'm sure we'll see one another sometime.
I'll give you a thumbs up before watching
@@rickyrishel8198 appreciate that🤣
For the trolling motor, do you just need to trolling motor they sell for this kayak, or do you need to buy an additional bracket for it as well?
I bought their motor. But I'll bet with some ingenuity anyone can be used.
Clendening, AKA, the dead sea. If you want piece and quiet and can't be bothered reeling in fish, Clendening is the place to go.
Lol that's pretty accurate
Glad you got it worked out sucks that happened. I'm killing it at Sandusky Bay even during the spawn. Catching the big males. Anywhere from 10-15 pounds and caught my PB drum 12 pounds.
That's awesome. I'm feeling the spawn here. Took the family out yesterday on mosquito and got nothing.
Would you glue-in the screws?
I did not but might be a good idea
You do know BOAT stands for break out another thousand !! Love the videos
🤣 thank you
Thank you for a good video on how to clean and fillet a cat fish.We just found your site and we have subscribed.
Thank you
If all you have is catfish, I feel sorry for you.
🤣I'm a United States Marine, happily married with a loving family and I fish for fun. Tell me exactly why you feel sorry for me, this I gotta know, please!
Welcome to the nightmare world of boat and trailer demons , you shook it off and caught some fish. I’ve had worse experiences than that, you’re still getting the kinks out and soon you’ll be worry free.
After they told me everything was okay and it was a minor fix I was determined to get on the water that day. I have since replaced the other hub myself. My mind sits a little easier today
i feel your pain. i was towing a newly purchased used load rite trailer, used for a jon boat, to the inspection station and i thought we were hitting some big gusts of wind......i looked in my rear camera to see that i was dragging the trailer with no axile. the springs were rusted and broke off. the axle bounced into the median, across traffic. i called a flatbed and they came and got it and took me home. got some new springs and shackles and just got it inspected. i was lucky that day and it sounds like you were too.
What the hell. Man loving the bastard 😂
Son-of-a-Bitch! Now that's a great way to introduce a video.
Man I am happy for you, been following you from the beginning congratulations
Thank you!
heading out tomorrow for some cats on the kayak too..
I am here right now mosquito lake!!! Night fishing
How's it going? Going to give tappan a try tomorrow. Good luck!
Fantastic the flooring looks great!
Thanks. First time messing with that eva foam. Not perfect but acceptable.
Nice vid. Thanks for sharing. Just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work and tight lines
Thank you
Can’t wait to see what size cats you get on the bastard🦅
It might be a while before I get to catfish from it. Right now it's all about what the wife wants to do in it😂🤣
Thanks for bringing us out on the maiden voyage of the Bastard!
Looking great 😊hat in the breeze with a Cuban in the mouth. Well you may do really well in the tournament 🤞nice video
Thanks. Had to do it right the first time
Looks amazing! If you ever want to enter it in some northeast ohio cat tournaments i can send u dates
Thanks. That's a big possibility for next year. Going to take this year to get all the kinks worked out.
That looks way to comfortable. 😝
I had to combine family fun time with Robs catfish time. Hopefully I did it, time will tell
A job well done and it’s nice of you to recognize your assistant for his role in helping get this old boat out on the water for many more years of great memories. Disappointed in no champagne 🍾 for the christening.
Thank you. Couldn't have done it without him. She was christened, just not on camera.
Boats great man! Saw up close in my kayak on sunday 😂
Thanks! Wish you would have said something. Maybe next time.
Looks great! You'll have more options and water to cover! Hopefully you find more flatheads at Mosquito
Thank you
Congratulations brother! The Bastard looks phenomenal. Need to get the name on it!
Thanks brother! I'm leaving Steph in charge of the decals so hopefully soon.
Congrats Man! Good to see the "Bastard" out on the water! Now you just need some rod holders and a GPS controlled trolling motor and you'll be all set!
Thanks, rod holders are in and I just put a trolling motor on the back. No gps but it's a good start
