Welcome to my channel, my name is Jerry Van. I'm an over 60's rider that just loves to ride when ever I can. I'm based in Cumberland on Vancouver Island, hit me up for a ride if you come for a visit. I bought a 1995 Dodge campervan to get me on the road to fun! Come along and see what amazing trails I discover. There are so many great trails to explore and I hope you find some here that you can ride for the first time. No massive jumps here but lots of great technical trails.
Give a like and subscribe, I like the motivation it gives :). Any questions about these location I'll try to help, remember I'm and old fart and my memory isn't what it used to be!

HANG ON! IT'S SLIPPEN AND SLIDEN TIME.
Easy Rider on Forbidden Plateau.
A combination of slippery rock rolls and a long steep shute make this a really fun challenging trail. It changes with the seasons, dust clouds in the summer and a rock pile at the bottom in the wet season.

I love riding Burns Lake, great trails and a beautiful camping area next to a lake. What's not to love! I was lucky enough to meet a bunch of local riders on two of the days I was staying here. Great people with a real passion for mountain biking. My kind of people. Full Boar is an awesome trail and we hit some smaller bonus trails on the way down the mountain. Make sure you check in with Burnt...
One of the longest trials I've ridden, AWESOME!

OUT OF THE BLUE IN Darrington, Washington State is a fun legging burning ride. This was my second visit and I'm so glade I stopped in for beer and riding. It's a tiny town with a big mountain. The trials are well built using the terrain to extract as much fun as possible. This trail spits you out below the parking lot, you end up with approximately 850 meters of climbing! OH YAH!! Check it out ...
This trail is easy to miss, DON'T!

Velvet Thunder on Forbidden Plateau is a blast. There are jumps, berms and steep rock rolls. A perfect combination! We do this trail a lot and it never gets old. It's one of my Forbidden favourites.
First ride here. Fun and a bit scary, perfect!

Overnight Sensation, Rusty Trombone and Psychopath in Pemberton were my first rides there. I had a blast with lots of rock and steep dirt sections to keep me on my toes. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the challenging trails they have there!
From Cliff Edge to rock rolls, so fun.

Higher Ground, Pub Feed, Fat Lip in Clearwater, what a blast. The start and finish is the most dramatic location I've ridden! Stunning view. These trails are worth the climb to the top. There are so many jumps added to the trail, what a great way to add spice to the downhill. More places should do this. This is my second visit here and I started at the campground parking lot. It was a great loc...

Queso Grande in Cumberland is a great e-bike ride with lots of challenging climbs and some great black sections to keep you alert! It's a big ride so water and a snack are a good idea. You'll be rewarded with stunning views as well as my favourite, rock slabs! :) When you finish you can ride back on the Lake road or hit the China Creek Trail. It beats the road. Trailforks route. www.trailforks....

These trails were new to me and even with my injured ribs I had a blast. Combine stunning scenery and awesome old school single track for the win! Have your ridden here? Next time I'll be at 100% and will have even more fun blasting down these loamy trails. Put this area on your short list!
Scary Riding on Forbidden Plateau-Super RUSH!

Snow at the top and wet slippery roots and rocks on the way down, a recipe for a scary and exciting ride. Most of the crazy stuff was near the end of the ride. I was holding my breath a few times! This is a ride from the first technical climb to the bottom. Some of the trails are not named or on Trail Forks. I couldn't put names to some because they mush together after the logging. I couldn't f...

Clam Chowder Pidherny Prince George. Lots of great bridge work.
Where is this buddy?
It’s up in Burns Lake north of Prince George. I love it there.
@@outlandishmtb BC 🇨🇦 ?
@@RidewithTenzinyup.
Hell yeah, way to get back up.
Thanks man. It took months to heal fully.
Awesome trail hope I can get out there one day
You've got to get out there and ride it. It's worth the trip.
You need to hit that Showcase Showdown next time buddy
I’ve done part of it. It’s a good one too. I’ll do the top next time.
I can’t wait to go back and hit that again buddy
Let’s do it!
Impress me by losing the motor.
I’m not here to impress anybody. I just love mountain biking.
Круто 🤟
I’m glad you liked it.
Nice riding! Like the commentary and love the orange gloves!
Thanks for watching! I like the orange too! I bought them at Canadian Tire, a hardware store! LOL
😮😮🎉🎉jj
cheers!
Pemberton looks fun and i am going back there next year for sure buddy
Yes it's got some challenging old school trails. Let me know when you're going.
Great video and riding, keep up the shredding!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I'll be back there in the summer I'm sure.
It’s funny Rusty starts pretty chill but it’s definitely not.
YUP!
Nice work, Rusty Trombone is definitely a step up from Overnight Sensation. Some bigger rolls and chutes.
No kidding. I wasn’t expecting that big of a step! 🤪
I really like your videos!! Awesome riding! See you on the trails
Thanks for watching! I'm looking forward to getting a ride in!
What a classic trail. Brings me back to you Donna and me riding this in 1995
Yes there’s a lot of great memories from this trail.
This looks sick bro
This small area is super fun to ride! Nice town with an amazing BBQ joint, Hop n Hog. Thanks for watching.
Nice riding!
It was a fun day!
Ah man I’m jealous looks so fun yewww
Yes it was a blast! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful vid. What camera setup are you using?
Thanks! I’m using the DJI Action 4 with a chin mount. It’s a great bit of kit.
Watching this video makes me want to take my e-bike to BC. I can't justify taking 2 bikes for a 3 week trip though, and that's before I even stop to consider how I would solve the problem of sourcing a battery!
Definitely easier to just bring the e-bike! Just kidding 😁There’s an e-bike rental in Cumberland. Maybe for a day or two 😀.
You’ll love it! Such a great variety of terrain.
This trail is on my list...big time! That's one thing I am loving on the ebike...finding challenging climbs...so fun!
Tons of those in forbidden alot of up and down there especially beside the lake around cliff ave
🔥🔥🔥
What protection gear we're you wearing
I wear the Leatt body armour with the elbow pads attached. very comfortable and has come in handy a few times! I've got a full face as well, chin mounted camera works well for me.
That drop off of on horse and screaming demon is my drop. The trail is called "Not too slabby" and It's almost finished. I'm calling the drop "Backdrop"! Because of the view. I'll be opening it and dropping it soon!
🎉 I mean you’ve already rolled it a few times 😂 Glad to see NTS getting some attention! (I also put some sweat into that one albeit far less than Tom the builder)
That was a ton of work I’m sure. I think the entrance to the roll is harder than the roll! I don’t know if I’ll do either 🥹. Good work.
Woodlot looks awesome right now!
Yes there’s some great trails there. Looking forward to riding there again.
Nice
Thanks for watching.
looks more like just falling off ur bike rather than a crash
Well since I was the one flying through the air I’ll have to disagree! How do you define a crash versus falling off your bike. Both happen at the same time! 😮 Thanks for watching.
Well since I was the one flying through the air I’ll have to disagree! How do you define a crash versus falling off your bike. Both happen at the same time! 😮 Thanks for watching.
i respect that so feel free to disagree thats what freedom of speech is but i define a crash as a moving vehicle colliding with another object and falling as going from being up right to on the floor
Hey Jer, I haven’t been up to Forbidden trails forever. Have some of the 1st ones in this video incorporated old trails in to newer ones? Some of the actual trail looks super familiar from years ago. I used to love that slabby stuff
You are right, some of these are very old trails. The climb trail was the old downhill trial! There's been so many changes over the decades with all the logging. Still the best trails in the Valley :).
2:32 RIP my stunts.
Hi Darren, long time no see. Thanks for watching too! Yes they are looking a bit sad now. I never rode them but do appreciate the effort you put into them :). Cheers
@@outlandishmtb Its funny Shieks has become basically a climbing trail. I'm in Nanaimo no learning this network along with a little building.
I tell riders new to the area that it was a great downhill trail. Funny saying it as we climb up! I love riding Chainsaw Ridge, super fun.
you crazy
LOL. Yes maybe a little. I love having the thrills and of course adrenalin! thanks for watching.
It was an unexpected treat, a good carbo load.
Yes it was really a fun riper.
I could watch videos of your trails for hours. There's something about the terrain that is very special. I'm already starting to get excited planning my next trip to BC for summer 2025😀The ebikes look like they helped. It's just a shame I can't take my on the plane!
Great to hear! I’m glad you’re enjoying them. Let me know when you’re in BC and we can meet up for some rides. Did you watch the Chainsaw Ridge video? Super fun rock riding. I’m thinking of dropping the battery out of my Wild and buying one in Spain. I’d be there for 3-4 months of touring so it’d would be worthwhile.
@@outlandishmtb We were eying up Chainsaw Ridge when we were in Nanaimo last time, but we couldn’t be sure whether we’d have been biting off more than we could chew. I’m pretty sure we’ll be heading to the Island for a weeks riding. It’d be great to ride for sure. We won’t have e-bikes though! Where are you heading in Spain? It’s a true MTB paradise.
I planned to spend time in Tremp and Ainsa, perhaps a month. Then over to Italy and maybe Switzerland. It’s early planning days still. Never a guarantee I can pull it off.
@@outlandishmtb I’ll be in BC aim July, I hope it doesn’t overlap with your Europe trip.
@@TrailTrackerSwitzerland I don't have a date set, probably in 2026. I'm not much of a planner :)!
Slow ASF
Where is this looks beautiful?
The trail is in the Cumberland network on Vancouver Island. Check out the short of Orange Peels, it's the next trail after this and is at the end of most of our rides. Lots of great trails here.
Hey man! I recommend you to use the K-edge Garming mount that sits on top of the stem. The gps sits super tidy and on a much safer position👍
Thanks, that is my light mount for night riding. It has to be adjusted up or down and the stem mount doesn't allow that. :) I did try it out though.
No kidding! I’ll have try riding it again if it’s not too late. Apparently the feller bunch was on the road last week.
That trail was so much fun.
Agreed!
Couldn't believe how long that went on. Where is this? BC?
Yes it is amazing. It’s in Burns Lake, it has a fantastic trail system.
What was the first section of trail with the jumps?
Hey thanks for watching. The jumps are on Gecko which is just after Cabin Fever. They are lots of fun.
Glad you liked it!! Keep an eye out for some new stuff and a few changes next spring on both Dixie and Dimeslot next season. As well, the plan is to rebuff and update Ditchpig as well. Cheers.
I’ll probably be back next spring. Looking forward to seeing what you do with Ditchpig. Cheers 🍻
@@outlandishmtb The drop you rode past on Dixie that I was working on is now open. Also, once we got some rain i went and reshaped the berms on Dimeslot. So, a bit different already than when you were there.
@@reallyfastbiker4077 are you talking about the bridge you see in the video? It looks like some great workmanship.
wow! I was there 10 years ago and it was so good to remember with this video. I think it was one of the best days with a bike for me.
That awesome! I’ll be back this spring with my riding buddies.
That’s some serious dedication to build that
They have a great trail crew there. We did some maintenance work on the wood work that evening. I got lucky with my timing and got to join them.
Bravo for that blind wooden gap jump
Thanks 😊. Thrills not spills is my new motto!
That’s a toughie
I managed to clean it on my fourth try! Pretty fun trail.
Definitely that was a fun day.
Absolutely!
Good looking crew.
Yes they are, pretty cool too! 😎
Awesome trail that drop at the end looks pretty nasty lol
Yes it was a bit to big for me. I live to ride an other day!
Life doesn't get any better on the trails
It's my happy place. :)
Gotta get out to the island some time looks like so many nice trails out there
Absolutely! Let me know when you're in Cumberland and if I'm around I can show you the trails!
