I am Prof. Satyabrata Choudhury, (retired from NIT Silchar, India) with an area of interest in Performance-based seismic design and earthquake engineering. This channel is meant to provide an academic treatment of performance-based seismic design of structures. Initially, related issues are discussed with video numbering starting with Eq-n. Actual PBSD videos will be named PBD-n.

Hello viewers, this video has a small correction, which you can easily grasp. In the last table calculation, I mistakenly put "mi*hi" in place of "mi*deltai". Consequently, the forces in the floors are miscalculated. You have to put "deltai" in the place of "hi" column. Floor forces then come out as: 9317, 13873, 12217, 10562, 8906, 7257, 5646, 4108, 2679, and 1393 kN.
Hello sir, the summation of all these forces is not equal to the base shear force Vb (which is 85233) but equal to 75 958 kN. The values i found are the following : 10455, 15567, 13709, 11852, 9994, 8144, 6336, 4610, 3006, 1563 kN (The summation equal to 85235kN because this the value i found for Vb). Your problem is not very clear to me. It may fail to complete the analysis if the capacity of members is not adequate. Your design should be carried out properly.

The C/B ratio of EC-8 or IS appears to be based on the philosophy discussed, but neither has explained the background. However, Gama_mcs have a different context.... You have to compute the extreme strength and limit the strength of a section, and find their ratio.

Sir, if the short column will occur below the plinth level (From the foundation top to the plinth beam bottom)- I)How we can understand that will be critical? Since we try that all columns of the Building become short columns ( Leff./D) less than 12 and failure may take place by Crushing only. II) For the column below the plinth level, If we make an offset of the column as Pedestal, will be the criticality reduced?
Thank you so much for your question. "Short column" here is not that of the code-specified short column. It is a relatively shorter column in a group of adjacent columns.... Below plinth beams, all columns are generally of the same length. Hence, the short column effect will not take place.
