An unexpected find while exploring Reynard's cave in the Peak District! Despite having watched other UA-camrs explore Reynard's cave I hadn't seen any of them showing the mysterious ledge half way up the climb so I had to check it out when I saw it. A SPOOKY Night In A Cabin In The Woods
Переглядів 74 тис.2 місяці тому
Can I survive the night in a mountain Bothy during spooky season? The cabin featured in this video is called Duror Bothy situated in Glen Duror Forest in the Highlands of Scotland. It is well known as the birth place of James Stewart AKA James Of The Glen who was hung for a murder he didn't commit in 1752.

My name's Wayne and this is 80's kid outdoors, a channel about getting outside and doing something you've never done before whilst improving your health at the same time. I decided to do exactly that when I hit my 50's and I thought I'd record all of my experiences to try and show that you're never too old for adventure!
Did I Prepare Well Enough To Climb Ben Nevis?

What Gear Did I Take Up Ben Nevis? In response to comments on my Ben Nevis video claiming I hadn't gone prepared I thought I needed to upload this footage taken before my climb to show that I had all the right gear for the mountain path and my only mistake was underestimating how long it would take to go up and down before night fell.

Training for my first hike in the Highlands of Scotland Come for a walk with me while I explain why I'm starting a second UA-cam channel that's a bit different to my usual content.
Wish it fitted me at 6ft 0 inches
It would fit you. The sleeping area is 200cm long which is around 6.6 ft
Is there a mobile phone signal up there ?
Surprisingly there is
Top video
Two words: Door Wedges. There should be a rule, visitors after a certain time can't come in for safety aspects.
I love mine. I got it when it was offered at £59. It's a very similar design to a high-end 4 season MacPac Microlight tent I purchased while in NZ, some 30 years ago. That set me back £300! They recommend a tarp over the top to give a canopy. You can use walking poles to prop them up at the front. Yes, there are not enough pegs. It takes 15 pegs. I swapped them out for vaude V shaped pegs from amother tent.
On my list.....stayed at Campsite in January 😮
Duror bothy is amazing. Stayed a few times. Did you read up the history of the house?
Yes, in the full video I talked about James of the glen and his demise. Fortunately I didn't meet his ghost lol
I will not big deal
Looks awesome
So would you climb Ben Nevis now?
@FreeThinker1488 Wow. The Highlands are safe to wander around solo. No large predators either.
Complete solitude (sleeping several miles from the nearest person) is not something that many people experience in a lifetime. Daunting at first, I now enjoy wild camping in the middle of nowhere.
Its the greatest thing to experience
If there was anyone else out there I'm sure they would've been inside already.
Looks comfy
It was quite cozy, but the seating and bedding areas were hard wood surfaces.
@80skidoutdoors-00 C'est la vie I suppose.
@@80skidoutdoors-00Always have an inflatable mattress. Wild camping luxury😂
Don't go near it during the full moon.
Over active imagination meets drama queen
That is an old mine shaft, not a cave maybe could call it a man made cave
YOU JUST EARNED MY SUBSCRIPTION! 🙋🏼♀️
Thank you 👍
Reminds me of WarCraft. The gateway to the other world
It's an impressive entrance!
Got my bobcat 1 brand new for 40 quid, just not used it yet.
That's a great price!
Gold coins were found there about 9 years ago. I was there months before that.....sad times
I'm gonna have to go back with a shovel lol
cool video
Thanks 👍
Yeah not going in there.
Don't blame you lol
Was waiting for a volitile to pop up
The dark is your friend!.Everything is equal then. Im a local and i would be shit scared staying in an English city where the crime rate is through the roof with wall to wall drug dealers. ! Duror and Appin are just beautiful places.
Is there a law in Great Britain that you can’t gather downed wood? It sure beats having to carry your own wood.
When the downed wood is soaking wet from recent rain it made more sense to have a backup
No mad axemen, just a few claymore-wielding enthusiasts. Nice video!
I took my kid camping on Brownsea Island recently. I had to carry a full rucksack like the one you carried. It was only about a 20 minute walk but carrying that heavy rucksack almost killed me on a hot summers day. I feel your pain. I kept thinking that I am too old for this s**t. That cabin looks awesome and it is a bit creepy knowing anyone could enter while you sleep.
This guy says he won't get much sleep because it will be so dark. Me; sleeps like a baby, the darker the better. The scariest places I have slept were all multi day long range, reconnaissance missions in Afghanistan.
It's not the dark I'm afraid of it's the possibility of someone walking in while I'm sleeping. But yeah, I definitely wouldn't be able to sleep in a warzone lol
Be careful. Volatiles are everywhere 😳😳😳
Finally got a hot tent and stove going to try out soon Disability makes it a little more difficult but it’s something I’ve been wanting to do for so long. Was very active in the outdoors hunting fishing camping before my mishap.
Did you do Poole's Cavern? Or Peak of Treak cliff?
No as I prefer going to places that are just out there in nature and can be explored alone. Those caves look impressive, but they've been commercialised from what I can tell.
@80skidoutdoors-00 yeah they are commercialised. Still pretty good though. There's Rowtor rocks behind the Druids pub in Birchover which is worth a look. Some rooms carved out of the rock. Robins hoods stride is worth a look nearby also. Happy exploring!
@@newtronix Cheers mate
Another guy on the camping ghost nights out, fuck me
I had a friend who loved singing in there ! Now he’s been sectioned
Sitting in that cave one rainy day eating my sandwiches, I had the odd feeling that I was being watched. When I turned round to have a look, there was a Magpie eyeing up my sandwich box. It was very tame and soon joined me in my meal, It liked cheese and I had it eating out of my hand.
No bears??? It’s hibernation time for the bears 🐻 .
@@thisoldnurse1521 They've been extinct in the UK for about 1000 years so it's safe
Greetings from the Dakota's, first time I've seen someone pack in wood to a forest???
The Bothy Association advises against visitors cutting the live trees in the area and to only use any fallen wood. It had been raining heavily and I knew everything would be wet so I took those easy light logs just to guarantee I'd be able to keep warm.
Great video! I was here in August. There were many people in the early evening, but of course it was still light back then. Quite a few people were struggling to get back down especially and I was trying to help them! I also got a bit stuck and took a while to get down being completely inexperienced. It is steeper than it looks. I didn’t go as far in as you so I really appreciate seeing the other parts in your video and the smaller cave too 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Another cowardly pommy..
To get back down. Walk sideways. 😊
Beautiful 😊
I think it probably feels scary cause there isnt any window coverings. But overall you're brave. I wouldnt stay there alone.
@@AngelasNoFrillsASMR I really enjoyed my night there, but I couldn't relax enough to sleep lol
@80skidoutdoors-00 I'd feel exactly the same lol. I'd try it though but wouldn't sleep. I'd be expecting something from evil dead to come up through the floor 🤣
For all those saying its click bait. Get over yourselves. This was HIS spooky night, if that's how he felt at the time.
Incredible. I wish that I lived closer to mountains.
I had to drive for 3 hours to get to this area from London, but it was worth it 👍
If you are alone, a furry companion would ease things up. Thank you for sharing your adventure. Enjoyed this. ❤
Don't like the idea of not being able to lock the door. And, no curtains on the windows. You are brave. Stay safe. 😊
And tents all have mortice locks !
The door can be used as a porch .zip open both sides and use walking poles /sticks to form a canopy .use those 2 extra guy lines to secure the poles .you now have a huge porch over the door way .
Couldn't stop smiling at your fear of being in a Bothy without a lock on the door. Over here in NZ, we have over 1000 hut and shelters in our forests and mountains, all have no locks. The more that you get out and use them the fear will dissipate, and you will start to enjoy it more. So far this year I've done 50 tramps (hikes) most of them solo, taught bushcraft and was a mountain guide. so, most of my life has been in the mountains and in that time have seen students go from scared to, able, and confident in a very short time. Tramping is our national pastime, so most people start young. In my local forest there are 52 huts and shelters, and the forest is 80k long and 30k wide and rises to 1600M and the bush line goes up to 1200M, so you can get truly away from it all and not be worried about 'mad axe men' coming after you. enjoyed the video. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😊😊
Why did you think in beforehand that staying in that hut should be scary?
