Dave Killen - August 8th 2001
The wonderful and beautiful Dave Killen passed away on Friday. This footage of him performing two of his own tunes was filmed in 2001, as part of a series of one minute films commissioned by Irish language broadcaster TG4.
On the day of filming, Dave decided to play two of his own compositions, to give us a choice. We ended up selecting the second tune from this video. The recording of the other tune ended up in the archive (i.e. attic).
I dug out the original tape yesterday. It hadn't been played in 20 years, but thankfully it was still playable, and the tape deck co-operated. It was wonderful to hear the other tune, after all these years. Great to see him as he will be remembered by many - playing his guitar, having a laugh, at the heart of the gathering.
Dave Killen RIP

Davey Collins - Master Tin Smith

We filmed Davey Collins in Finglas in 2001 making this pot in the traditional way. What a pleasure it was to see him at work, he was a master of this craft, and a gentleman. The resulting short film was one of a series of 32 films we produced or TG4 and the arts Council, on the subject of artists and makers from around Ireland. This film shows the entire process from beginning to end.

"Are you in a hurry?" I will never forget his words to me when we shared a house in Dublin. I watched and listened to him throw a few licks on his guitar one evening, completely in awe at the ease at which he made music pour out of that instrument. When he finished I told him I wish I could do a fraction of what he just did. He said I should start learning. I said "Nah. It would take forever to learn." He was a gift to this world.
why is utube so bad not letting music videos come up you ve lost your minds grow up idiots !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, that’s a voice
Beautifully sung.
Why is this about his face and not what he’s making?

Probably the best cover I've ever heard. Camille gets the song. You can't fake that emotion.

sublime..Camille is also the most credible cover of Tom Waits' songs on the planet!!
That may be, and is wholly likely. But this is a Nick Cave song.
new tools
I work with copper every day and I don’t have very many tools, but what this man can do with a piece of a board and a metal stake is amazing! So encouraging! I worked on the road, usually in a tent. I love to see him building this without even a table or chair! This guy is amazing! ❤ I wonder what gauge copper he is using? Looks thin, like, maybe 24 gauge…
Looks like soft copper too.
Not wishing to be critical of a skilled man but the guage looks too thin to me. Wouldn't last if used daily on a range. i.m.o.
Absolutely stunning !!!! Love it ❤ Edit: it's like crazy memory for the lyrics and his look is Rick Danko for me..he he
I F@C@ing love this song, her voice drills into my soul.
Exquisite! / End of🥲
Wah a wanker
Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth You pull on your finger Then another finger, then cigarette The wall-to-wall is calling It lingers, then you forget Oh-oh-oh, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it And the clock waits so patiently on your song You walk past the café, but you don't eat When you've lived too long Oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide Chev's brakes are snarling As you stumble across the road But the day breaks instead, so you hurry home Don't let the sun blast your shadow Don't let the milk float, ride your mind They're so natural, religiously unkind Oh no, love, you're not alone You're watching yourself, but you're too unfair You got your head all tangled up But if I could only make you care Oh no, love, you're not alone No matter what or who you've been No matter when or where you've seen All the knives seem to lacerate your brain I've had my share, I'll help you with the pain You're not alone Just turn on with me, and you're not alone Let's turn on and be not alone Gimme your hands, 'cause you're wonderful Gimme your hands, 'cause you're wonderful Oh, gimme your hands
The higher that the monkey can climb The more he shows his tail Call no man happy 'till he dies There's no milk at the bottom of the pail God builds a church The devil builds a chapel Like the thistles that are growing 'Round the trunk of a tree All the good in the world You can put inside a thimble And still have room for you and me If there's one thing you can say about mankind There's nothing kind about man You can drive out nature with a pitch fork But it always comes roaring back again Misery's the river of the world Misery's the river of the world Misery's the river of the world The higher that the monkey can climb The more he shows his tail Call no man happy 'till he dies There's no milk at the bottom of the pail God tempers all the ruins for the new shorn lands The devil knows the Bible like the back of his hand All the good in the world You can put inside a thimble And still have room for you and me If there's one thing you can say about mankind There's nothing kind about man You can drive out nature with a pitch fork But it always comes roaring back again For want of a bird The sky was lost For want of a nail A shoe was lost For want of a life A knife was lost For want of a toy A child was lost And misery's the river of the world Misery's the river of the world Everybody row! Everybody row! Misery's the river of the world

You are truly incredible..I'm so in love with your heart and soul..I'm reading your book unsettled and I'm sad that I'm almost done with it in such short time..your story is heartbreaking and what you made out of the hardships is unbelievable..you are so loved..thank you for being so honest and brave..I can so relate to so many events and situations you are describing in your book..much much love from me..I wish I could meet you in person and just tell you that I see you..the whole you..I see you❤❤❤
First heard this in a Globe production of Henry IV Part 1. So well done I had to look it up.
So good, i could watch him all day.😊
Next time try wiggling the camera more and zoom in and out of his nose a few more times! This would have been a great video had you set the camera on a tripod, stood still, quit zooming and running around all the time and just focused on the work at hand.
Hi @tommiller9743 . Thanks for watching. This footage was originally shot for a series of 32 one-minute films we were producing for broadcast on TG4. The original intention was to edit all this footage into a one minute film (which we did). There was a good bit of interest in seeing all the original footage (including from Davy's family) so we decided to put it all up, unedited. You're correct - if we were producing a one hour document of Davy's work, we would have shot it is a very different way.
@@FeenishProductions thanks for responding and clearing that up for me!
His studio reminds me of my own. I can't create in a sterile environment, I need to have art, paint, mess, paper, all around me! Otherwise I feel like I'm creatively limited. Id seen other artists, paint or create in beautifully clear, white or neutral spaces and thought 'shit am I doing something wrong', but I think a lot of us enjoy the chaos of creation rather than doing it in measured capacities.
I would call that mastery…
Well done.
Brilliant, bravo
What a lovely interpretation of Nick's brilliant song. Lovely.
