Tasting Nuri Lemon Sardines and Pollastrini Spiced Sardines With Freshly Toasted Italian Bread
This is my first time tasting Nuri sardines in Lemon. Well I could go on and on about it, but honestly just watch and find out what I think about them.
Also, I gave the Pollastrini Spiced Sardines in Olive Oil a try and I would say...watch to find out.

But I thoroughly enjoy it and it made shooting this video even easier to do. The NURI products are truly artisanal and truly Portuguese in every way. Looking back, importing Angelo Parodi products was...

      Sometimes canned fish can have crystals that are actually 'struvite' that can appear to be a fish scale, although sardines also can have scales, what you are likely seeing is just the sardine skin. FYI FWIW from the internet: "Struvites are a form of magnesium ammonium phosphate, which are naturally occurring minerals in seafood that sometimes bond together to form crystals during the canning process (via Komo News). Struvites can get up to a half inch in size, and are transparent, colorless, and tasteless, reports the Alaska Journal. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, struvites are harmless to consumers."

    Nuri doesn’t use EVOO to pack their sardines because it is too flavorful and would overpower the flavor of the fish. The use light olive oil.

    So if I’m a person who enjoys let’s say ghost pepper, will these sardines be of the same caliber or no, like what hot sauce range would this be in? Like a franks red hot? Or a tabasco

      They are more savory and spiced than hot. So not even close to a ghost pepper, AND probably not even close to a jalapeño.

    Glad I found this video! I just got back from Portugal and visited the Nuri cannery in Porto. (Technically, it's the Pinhais cannery. The Pinhais brand stays witihin Portugal, but Nuri is the export brand name. They are both the same product though, produced in the same facility by the same staff with the exact same quality and attention to detail.) I had never had canned sardines before, but figured I'd try the best first - Nuri sardines in the cafe of the cannery! They are outstanding! I bought several cans to bring home. Note that when flying (between EU countries and back to the US) with tinned fish, you can have them in your carry-on as long as each can weighs less than 150g. Standard Nuri cans are 125g, so you can stock up. Double-check with your airlines to be sure though. YMMV I cannot recommend the Pinhais cannery tour enough when visiting Porto. It was definitely one of the highlights of my entire trip. Miguel was our tour guide, and he really made the whole experience extraordinary. You get a sardine tasting at the end too. I consider this tour a MUST when visiting Porto. Book in advance. Lastly, you dont need to cut the wrapper off the can. At the cannery they showeed us that with the way the labels are applied (which you get to learn how to do on the tour), the tape holding the side flaps down only sticks to the top long flap. To get the label off the can, you just open the bottom long flap (imagine opening the tucked flap of an envelope), and the can will slide right out. Enjoy!!

    • @nerdingoutwithfood
      @nerdingoutwithfood Рік тому

      Wow, that sounds like quite the experience. Thanks for sharing all the details about the tour. And the tip about opening the wrapper, helpful to all. Thank you.

    Laurel = bay leaves. Actually, it’s kind of a bad translation. Laurel technically refers to the family of plants, most being poisonous. But in the romantic languages, they usually just use the word laurel (ex. feuille de laurier for French). But in English, we say Bay to specify the edible kind. They probably just used Google translate.
