Creativity Is Total BS
So what is creativity? To be honest, I have a definition, which I’ll get to, but I don’t think a definition is that useful.
What I’m way more interested in, is how do I get better at being creative?
If you’re a creative type, or you want to be one, here are the collection of traits I’ve seen that produce the most consistent, high quality work.
0:00 - The problem with creativity
0:54 - Be Insatiably Curious
2:24 - Devotion To Craft
3:44 - The Courage To
5:15 - Redefine It
1. Be Insatiably Curious. About everything, especially people and why they do the things they do. Most creative endeavors are motivated by solving a problem rooted in human behavior and how to influence it. Be observational always. Let yourself sit with confusion or contradictory philosophies without needing to solve or cast judgment. Go deep and then you’ll always be able to go wide. Understand that your job is to find life fascinating. Try to live a thousand lives because curiosity leads to an ever-expanding data set you can draw from to connect dots that others can’t. And that, I think, is the fertile soil in which creativity thrives. Your ability to combine more ideas into unique insights is what makes people stop and pay attention, and that makes you wildly valuable. And do things in real life. Social media is not real life. You will gain few useful insights by scrolling all day.
2. Devotion to your craft. The better you get at a craft, whether that’s design, writing, video, painting, whatever, the bigger your ideas can be because they won’t be confined by the limits of your skillset. It’s easy to be great in your mind. It’s a lot harder to be great in public. When you see someone do something that looks impossible, they’ve just practiced more. They’ve developed a set of skills that to an untrained person resembles magic. But for them it’s just another day at work. We are so quick to ascribe genius to years of dedication because it lets us off the hook. Oh, I couldn’t do that because I’m not a genius. Being creative is not some thing reserved for geniuses. It’s reserved for those who work. And your work is what you have to show. Portfolios are not built on IOUs and potential so care, deeply, about your craft.
3. The ability to fail in public and keep going. Doing creative work means putting yourself out there constantly. Your ideas, your worldviews, your solutions, your work. And you will be judged. Whether by a creative director in an internal review. Or by a client in a pitch meeting. Or by keyboard warriors on UA-cam. Your survival will come down to thick skin, knowing the difference between a troll and a constructive critic, and the belief that you have something worth sharing. Oh, and realizing that even though we like to think otherwise, the stakes are quite low. I mean, what, someone won’t like your idea? They won’t like your video? The horror! We can enjoy our jobs and take pride in our work while also recognizing that we’ve chosen a career of mucking around in a sandbox.
Be curious. Work hard at developing skills. Have the courage to put yourself into the world. And then do that over and over and over. The more I think of myself as a craftsman instead of a creative, and the more I realize that great work comes from a lot of hard work, the more “creative” I get.

Переглядів 29 тис.Рік тому
One of the biggest struggles with building out the perfect FX3 Cinema Rig has been finding a way to place the monitor in a way that wasn't annoying. And I finally figured out how to place a Atomos Ninja V on the FX3 top handle.

Here's a step-by-step guide to building out a cinema camera rig. This build is on my ZCam E2-F6, and I include all the exact parts in the video.

When she first launched the brand she didn’t promote it. The public didn’t know it was hers. The product got the best reviews and customers tried it without knowing. In my mind that is incredible! The product works because the product works. Not because a celebrity made it. And that is something that a lot of celebrity products lack, it’s popular because of them, not because of the product

Smallrig makes a top plate for monitor mounting over the mic box. MD3990. Have it on mine and is great when I use that handle.

You are a genius my friend, thank you! I just tried it, works great! I've been trying for a while to get something that works and nothing except this has worked well. I have a kondor blue handle so it does not fit as well as with a small rig handle, but good enough. Where did you get that monitor mount? Thanks again!

@@FABLEorTRUTH upload your product image first. Then copy the link of the uploaded image. Then use that link in your next product image midjourney prompt. Do like this: /imagine A clean and minimalist product image featuring a 70g pack of [PRODUCT IMAGE LINK]. The toothpaste tube is placed on a white background, surrounded by fresh turmeric roots, turmeric leaves, and a small turmeric figurine. The tube is adorned with fairness-related icons, highlighting its whitening properties. The overall presentation exudes a sense of simplicity and purity, emphasizing the natural and traditional aspects of the toothpaste, --ar, blah blah blah, etc. Include all parameters. Cheers Buddy. 🥳

Isn't the bottom of the Smallrig FX3 cage an integrated Arca plate? (I believe most of their cages are designed like this) So if you just rotate the quick release receiver 90°, you can mount the camera + cage straight to it and allowing you to eliminate that tripod plate?

I personally attach my monitor to the Nato rail of the handle extension using the Nato monitor mount 2906B of smallrig... and it really works like a charm. The Nato mount makes it super fast to attacha and adjust.. it also allows to tilt and rotate the monitor with one hand and tool free. No problem to grab the handle, index finger in front of the monitor mount, rest of the fingers behind.. That being said, your solution is more versatile when it comes to the position of the handle, and the ability to tilt it almost horizontal without bouncing into the XLR unit.

Great rig! I have a very similar build, but instead I‘m using a 20cm rod and a 10cm rod. The 10cm I mount to the rod-rail of the half-cage and connect it to the 20cm rail with a „Rail Block V3“. This way i can then mount the monitor just below the handle at the front and it doesn‘t go up in hight so much. But I‘ll add all the other parts you showed, love it!!

Thanks for sharing this, really great idea! I already own this clamp so it'll be easy to try out. For my setup I'll probably go with a longer rod so I can also put a different mic mount on the other side. The Sony mic mount just produces waaaay too much rattling noise. I already kicked it off with the current solution I'm running

50% are now commercials that you're forced to watch because they're paid promos. 10% are porn ads. 20% are video game shorts. 29% are stolen content and memes on repeat. 1% is original content, most of which are dating coaches and politics.
