I want to disagree with one specific thing: That sexy idols are shy offstage, doesn't means their onstage performances are a persona. Some people just do a 180 in terms of confidence when they dance, I'm such a person myself and I find Soojin one of the people most relatable in the idol industry when it comes to personality. it's part of why people say, 'Its always the quiet ones'.

That's what make Army unite to protect the boys. When you see on twitter, it's mostly Army vs other fandoms, that creates the strong sense of unity, eventho there are toxic solos within the fandom.

Solo stans can destroy a fandom's unity if the fandom itself isn't strong and big on the first place. The other factor is the members closeness with eo, no matter how loud and annoying solos are, if members have strong friendship, nothing gonna break the group.

sophia and lara also have/had solo stans and i think most of what bothered actual manon solo stans (not just ppl who started stanning from the docu) was how other solo stans reacted to everything saying they didn’t do anything wrong when the way they went about everything WAS wrong or that manon is lazy when she is a member who’s probably improved the MOST. but they’ve moved on and actually seem close so it was a bit stupid to camp in their comments hating on behalf of manon, lara, and/or sophia over something that happened 2 years ago for them. i’m glad they reacted to everything in a joking way. i wish idols could do that when their fans start becoming a little too parasocial

All groups have this issue. You can go all the way back to the Supremes, w/Diana Ross, the Jackson 5 with Michael Jackson, Destiny’s Child w/Beyonce, the Pussycat Dolls, etc. There will always be one member who is the most popular. Singling out Manon is wrong and saying that she is the cause of a riff is way off. People have attacked Sophia and Lara because they came across as mean and jealous and not being able to assess the situation. If they had not voiced their petty jealousy they wouldn’t be in this situation. The fact that they voiced their displeasure in the way they did showed a lack of professionalism just as they were claiming that Manon had no professionalism. Loose lips sink ships.

The difference with fans that voted for Sophia, Lara, etc based on nationality and/or race is these typically weren't the ONLY the reasons people voted for them. All the girls are pretty, but Manon fans outright admitted her singing/dancing skills are severely lacking and they just didn't care, which obviously bugs people that care about these things. Even then, I don't personally mind if one person is more of a "visual", but in kpop idols tend to be more humble with impeccable work ethic (or at least give this appearance.) The doc made it clear that Manon is lacking in those aspects as well, so there's yet another divide for people that value those qualities in the kpop genre itself. Manon is at an age where I don't necessarily believe she was ignorant of how she was affecting others, and add on top of that she's clearly wealthy, so it gives off the vibe that she's used to get away with putting less effort in. I could be wrong, but I don't think people turn around bad habits like this quite so quickly. So, here we are with a member not only lacking in the skills required for her job, but also in personality aspects that attracted people to kpop to begin with, and her fans that just wanted her to "win" at any cost. Great start for bringing kpop to the west.... maybe it'll work anyway, but to me it takes away the main reason to be invested in the group. If I wanted someone hungry for fame and overshadowing others, I would've voted for Brooklyn who at least had a better skill set and didn't miss practice, meetings, etc.

Ricky was my one pick in BP when it ended I was ready to stan love all of them in the group but the way w1 is managing the group is like zhang hoa, Hanbin and friends they get everything it's like BP all over again. While I do agree that solo stanning can become problematic when fans weaponise their love for a certain member of a group to pit them against other members, I have been a solo stan of certain idols in the past. This isn't because I disliked the other members of a group but because that idol happened to also be a soloist, whose works I was more familiar with and liked more than the ones with their group. For example, when I was a newer kpop fan, I knew Taemin as a soloist before I knew about him being a part of Shinee. And if anything, solo stanning him encouraged me to try listening to other solo and group songs by the Shinee members as well as variety show content. So I do think that a positive thing about solo stanning is that it could convert solo stans into stans of a whole group.

The problem with solo stans (not only Manon’s) is that they always ALWAYS have to bring the name of the other members to uplift their favorite. Also they have this weird practice of putting their favorites name everywhere so it comes as insecurity (in my opinion). They need to make sure 1) that their favorite is the BEST AT ALL COST 2) Their favorite is mentioned EVERYWHERE TO SHOW OFF THEIR FAVORITE IS THE MOST POPULAR. So people get defensive and the problems multiple

Manon was created to bring in delulu fans that think she is somehow superior because she debuted. They literally think this happened because her charisma and beauty transcends that of the other girls. Darlings no. Manon is an example of privilege and how far it can get you. She had special treatment from day 1 and debuted with the group because of her looks. She had the look they wanted. Period.

What’s funny with all these solo manon fans videos is no one is talking about the racism manon and her fans have been facing before the group debuted and the documentary even began. Of course the fans began to vehemently defend her even more after Sophia and Lara stans are actively being racist calling her all sort of names to defend their biases. Like I wish people actually show Manon grace in videos like these or be fair (not necessarily you)
