Oneplus Open 2 - Is it Worth the Wait?
Leaks and rumors suggest that the Oneplus Open 2 is set to release in early 2025.
With that, some folks might be wondering ....should I wait until the Open 2 releases? Or should I just buy a Oneplus Open instead.
If this is you, this video is for you. After using my Open for half a year, I share my perspective in hopes of giving you an honest cost benefit analysis.
Enjoy.

The Oneplus Open turned 1 year old October 2024! Here is my personal review of how this device has held up as my daily driver. This is my honest opinion - the good, the bad, and in between. Enjoy #oneplus #oneplus12 #oneplusopen #tech #android #smartphone #phones #cellphone #2024 #foldables #foldablephones
If you start talking about pro's and the first thing is camera, i know that this is full of bs. OnePlus cameras have always been horrible and still are in new OnePlus 13. So there is that...
Front camera is bad but rear camera is actually pretty good.
Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome Awesome One plus Open
What Chromebook are you using?
Lenovo duet 5
you rationalized it pretty well for yourself ngl we both know the OP F2 is gonna be a gamechanger.
It is. The leaks make it look nice but I can justify the price lol... Now if it had a desktop mode, then idk but I'll hold off personally
What app do you use for reading?
I switch between kindle, Google Play, and Neat Reader. I prefer Google play or kindle though for the dictionary feature
You're misleading viewers by saying you purchased for under $600. Perhaps you did, but they are not selling anywhere for under $600. The very lease is $650, and that is ULTRA rare.
I guess I misspoke. Most are are 800 but there are a few with damages that are much lower. Once the open 2 releases, used open 1 in good condition will lower though
Yes. The OnePlus Open 1 is a great phone but you are correct about the repairs. You can not take it to your local phone repair shop. I sent mine in to One plus last month and still haven't received it back. I had to contact them to get an update but the phone is great
Right. It's an unfortunate dilemma... great phone but unreliable customer service. As much as I love my fold I cant stress that point enough. Its an expensive device so new buyers really need to keep this in mind and decide if it's worth taking the risk
@@MichaelSanchez-x6x This is the case with all the folding phones in the US. Samsung, Google and OnePlus should be ashamed of how they manage support issues.
I hope in uk that they put the open 1 on their trade in program otherwise its gonna be difficult to finance this 👍
Agreed! I would be hesitant to trade in with all the OnePlus customer service horror stories...
Wait for OP open 2
If money isn't an issue then yes wait and buy the open 2 😁. Also wait since it will drop the open 1 down, if you go with that option then you get more savings 😀
@@MichaelSanchez-x6x Just wanted to clarify from the video ( I've never had a foldable phone). You're saying that the hinges will break and that you have to send your phone in and go without a phone entirely while waiting for repair??
Oneplus should make the open a productivity beast like samsung's dex and also with a stylus with extra practical features then it would have a good chance of being the best phone for portable activity. Additionally better accessories
Agreed!!! Being a previous Samsung user, dex was an awesome feature and I still miss it. You can use the oppo pen but it doesn't give much value compared to the s pen - plus Oppo pen is pricey. If OnePlus added a dex feature it would only make the device more appealing and might also attract current Samsung users to switch. Seems like a win for OnePlus , here's hoping that's in the near future though 🤞
There seems to be a.i. features in oneplus's notes app since the update.
Yup. They seem to help change your writing tone and I think you can also do record summary of notes. I only briefly covered it here.
Brother I have the Opportunity Pen arriving in the mail!!! I'm Amped Up!!!
Very nice! That pen is pricey but it definitely will make the device even more productive.
3 days ago on my Fold 5 a black dot appeared in exactly the same place but half the size. From this dot to the right a green line also appeared. After the new year I will find out how much the Samsung warranty is worth in this aspect.
It's really unfortunate that this type of problem is pretty much inescapable for all foldables - the tech still needs some work. Hope your warranty pulls through for you
@@MichaelSanchez-x6x In Europe where I live they have 14 days to repair. This time has passed and they have not responded to the matter so they automatically accepted my repair request. I called them and it is supposed to be repaired for collection at the end of the week. So despite the extended repair time I am satisfied.
Was thinking about getting this but the warranty issues stopped me, the 9 pro fold is the better option here in the US.
There is some truth to that. All foldables eventually will have the inner screen break overtime and if you care about fixing them when that time comes, then pixel and Samsung folds are the better option. No doubt, OnePlus has the worst customer service/support out of the 3 so I would not want to deal with their repair services...
@MichaelSanchez-x6x yup, unfortunately that's one thing that is going to stop them from ever reaching Samsung or Google's level here in the US.
Thanks for being honest that is the very truth @@MichaelSanchez-x6x
I'm tired of the same phones, I'm getting this phone. Shame on you Samsung for stopping innovating.
I will admit, that Samsung arguably has the best android os when it comes to features. However, having used Samsung in past years, their phone designs have been very lazy and they really need to step up their cameras. I do miss a lot of Samsung features but OnePlus has really come far with the oxygenos15 update
Open2 comes soon so wait for it.
@@ttlbigyes May wait for that
7:25 If you want full screen videos/movies without cropping, use samsung internet browser. When using samsung internet, go to settings, useful features, make sure you turn on video assistant, when streaming and type of video or movie from UA-cam, Netflix, Amazon prime video, Facebook ect, two blue circles 🔵 will pop up on the bottom right corner under the video/movie, click the one with the stretch icon, it will open that video your watching in samsungs video player, on the bottom of the video the will be a icon to change the aspect ratio of the video/movie, set it to stretch and it will use your full screen. You can also use this feature on your cover display/outter display for true full screen video without cropping. Sounds like a lot, but it's really simple and will take a max of one minute. Ps make sure the video your watching isn't on mute or the blue circles won't pop up.
Hey so I've been thinking of getting the oneplus open 2 once it will be released (rumored to come somewhere in mid 2025). Do you think the oneplus open will be able to hold it's own for at least 3+ years of use? I'm especially worried about the bigger screen because it's known to get permanent marks from fingernails
In opinion, it feels like it will. The hinge feels better built compared to z fold 6. I don't game so I don't press on it excessively but even still I have done some light gaming and I don't see any fingernail damage. I've dropped mine plenty of times and so far it feels fine. It will definitely hold up for 3 years. I also read people buying it new and weeks later the inner screen breaks. In my case, mine is used and the inner screen is still fine. Luck of the draw maybe
The camera what's the reason I suck to this instead of the fold light up from Samsung
Which Samsung fold did you have before?
I just got this phone but dang 550 is cheap i got it for bout 800.. hope i can keep it prestine and trade in for the 2 when it comes out. Way better than my fold 4 tbh well maybe samsung speaker is better thats about it
800 is better than original pricing too though 😁 especially if you're trying to resale or trade in. 550 was a good deal but only if you're okay with not reselling or trading. I'm good though, nice price for trying a great foldable. I do love Samsung features but can't beat the price. Camera is 🔥 and the update ai features are nice
@@MichaelSanchez-x6x yea it was about the same price as if I were to just trade in my fold 4. This way I get to keep it. You might be on to something waiting couple months and just buy a used one consider the price drops like crazy with these foldable. The 6 is 900 on swappa crazy. Did u bought your from eBay
Nice! I haven't bought a new phone in years, save that 🤑 lol I bought my open on eBay, but I've bought phones on swappa in the past.
I'd love to see that listing. Fake news.
Great over iee of the os update! Thanks! Glad you touched on the calculator 😂
@@DUICE08 this new calculator is amazing lol
just downloaded and installed the update a couple days ago and so far the only thing I don't like is that I can't use face unlock to unlock or open some apps that had biometrics required to open I used to be able to use either fingerprint or face unlock and now on the same apps it only has fingerprint unlock no face unlock available anymore, but besides that I'm loving the update!!
Interesting, I just noticed that with one of my banking apps. Kind of a bummer, hopefully it comes back. Otherwise yes awesome update . Oxygenos15 gang stand up 🫡
Yessirr, appreciate the review!
Becareful with your address and number being on video. I like the system cloner but also dont use it on my OnePlus11. I like app cloner but hate how it doesn't let you clone any app. Instead I use Shelter and a generic App Cloner app from the Play Store.
Thanks for the tips! I'll need to check that out.
I used it to clone pokemon go so I could run 2 in split screen 😂
Nice video will update soon. Question how come ur decide has a camera in the middle mine doesn't🤔
@@blink1181 hope you get the update soon and enjoy. The black middle spot in the inner screen is not a camera. It's a damaged dead spot that I've got overtime 😂
How did that happen? @@MichaelSanchez-x6x
You don't seem to know much about that phone at all
Good to know! I did not want to give a typical tech review and give details about materials and specs. I just wanted to focus more on features (useful/not useful) and usage but thanks 👍
@@MichaelSanchez-x6xI appreciate this review . Honest and non bias.
I got the oneplus 12. Last week and i love it. I still have time to trade it back . Thinking of the onleplus open. Is the front screen experience compatible ? Do you recommend it ?
I hear you! I actually had a OnePlus 12 but sold it and replaced it for the OnePlus Open (used). I love the OnePlus 12 but I prefer the flat screen phone on the OnePlus Open. There's pros and cons to both, I made a video on why I switched phones on my channel. Ultimately the choice is going to depend on whats most important to you. ua-cam.com/video/Z8_OhsxShTs/v-deo.html
@MichaelSanchez-x6x ty
@MichaelSanchez-x6x is the front screen experience on the OnePlus open. The same as similar to the one plus 12 other than the curved screen? Ty
It is similar. I use my outer display more than the inner display because the outer display is so good.
Do you have a camera in the middle? I don't... I just purchased one
Not sure what you mean by camera in the middle.
Your screen it’s broken? Wee see a black spot in the middle
@@kylelopez9779 ohh I see what he was saying now lol. No the black dot is not a camera. Yes it's damaged, I bought it used and with the damage already lol
How's the battery in day to day usage ...or like avg SOT for reference...
In my opinion it is very good for a 1 year old phone. On an average day, I'm mostly streaming music or have videos playing. Not much has changed. I used to start at around 80-85%, and end around 30-35%. Now I start with 80-85%, and end 25% -34%
On Android 14 i get a little less than 5 hrs SOT for my usage and settings
I get about 7 hrs of screen on time. It used to be a 2 phone.
@@kendrelewis5465 what are your settings to get this sot?
