Microlight Crash- Blade 912 October 2019
October 15th 2019
Onboard Xander Galley Pilot, Mike Bjorn Jones Passenger
Main runway was blocked by a broken down van so I decided to take off to the north from outside the main hangar.
On takeoff run the Blade would not unstick as expected and as the airfield has a steep decline leading to hedge, gate and trees I decided to abort the takeoff in the interests of safety in order to takeoff to the South instead.
Unfortunately the ground became so mushy further down the heavier back end of the trike began to fishtail more and more until it ended up beyond the scope of the nosewheel steering to almost 270° when the trike regained enough traction to turn itself over.
No notable injuries apart from cuts and grazes to my face and right hand; just a smashed visor on my Lynx helmet and damaged headset.
Aircraft written off; twisted wheel spat, nose cone badly cracked, starboard spar tube fractured, starboard flying wires snapped and sail ripped extensively.
Bought from the insurance company by Skycraft and the engine ended up being immaculately refurbished by Simon Worthington of Eccleston Aviation.
Many lessons learned and no accidents or near misses since.

Returning to Chirk Airfield from Sleap
Streak Shadow 582 360 North Wales
Переглядів 1792 роки тому
Having trouble taking off from the beach. Had to drag the Shadow a few hundred metres downwind to be able to take off from harder sand as the tyres were eating into the beach. Then a nice scenic flight over Colwyn Bay, Rhos on Sea, the Little Orme and Llandudno & Great Orme - back past millionaires row. Some high altitude flying over Ruthin & Denbigh on the way home.

Fantastic aircraft to fly; pretty much the best two stroke aircraft there is. David Cook was well ahead of his time!

The helmet saved your live
Not quite but it likely saved my face from being a lot more mashed up
Don't respond to the trolls. Who gives a shit what music a person likes? Glad you are OK.
@@jenslundy Thankyou @jenslundy More than ok, just hit 380 hours in command. Have a great day 👍
@@jenslundy I like to feed them when I’m really bored 🤣 Thankyou
Looks like an attempted water takeoff while the lake was fairly low.
" god" hates crap music, that's why he made you crash.😂😂😂
God hates 🚬’s, that’s why you have no life 😂
The FAA Has determined that the cause of the crash was a direct result of the distraction of the Pilot listening to the worst music ever recorded.!
1) It’s the CAA in Britain. And it would be the AAIB (NTSB) that determine the cause 2) It’s the best music ever recorded 😄🎧🎹 3) Don’t talk with your mouth full 👄💦🍆
Looks like you ultra-lite was a bit to heavy. Glad you both were OK. Did you get back up in the sky after this?
No, not too heavy; just the ground was much more soggy and draggy than expected. Oh yes. Got an XAir Falcon 2200 with the insurance payout. Then another Blade 912 exactly the same. Then a Team Minimax 91 and a CFM Streak Shadow. Then an XAir standard and finally now have a Rans S6ES 2200 I’ve even flown an Icarus C42, an XAir Hawk, a P&M Quik GT450, a Mainair Flash 2 Alpha and a Pegasus Quantum that all don’t belong to me so I’ve done absolutely tonnes of flying since.
that didn't look good, happy to see you are OK. 👍
Still alive and kicking five years later, Thankyou 😂
Just bought a Blade in yellow and an insta 360 so loving this clip. How did you mount the camera?
Nice 360 footage. Paint job is a bit odd.
5:00
Did they ever make it back :o)
‘They’? My son is old school identifies as a male 😂
🤣 I would have guessed at "he" but then the gods of you tube may have banned me. His clutch control was better than my first bike ride many moons ago, rode my scooter straight into my Dads fence 😀@@supergalley
You'd want around 6300RPM WOT.
Sold the X’Air a few months ago. Have a Rans S6 now 😊

It’s the man who was born in 1979 and doesn’t like Simon Jenkins even though Simon Jenkins hasn’t fractured his eye socket
I recognise that smile on your face... I get it every time I fly!
no need for all this" could have just stood in the mirror and filmed himself."
Do you not understand what a 360° video is?
🎉
You were calm and collected, well done. Looks like Camarthan. Big circuit. My first solo was in an xl back in '92. It was a thermal day with a crosswind and the landing didnt go well. I almost ground looped it after landing on one back wheel. It was the cross wind aspect I was troubled by and it caused me some doubt for a while about continuing but I was reasured after watching a video of a xl landing in a crosswind at Old Warden. Like you we flew off an old tarmac bomber station and taxying would take half the lesson some times.
how much max rpm
5500rpm
Hello. Does Charles Richard Brown fly anymore. His videos have stopped.
No, he moved to South Wales and sold his Blade 912. Hasn’t flown since 😭
@@supergalley Shame. All that effort only to stop flying.
@@larropowell3658 that’s what I told him 😂
How
The engine produces thrust and the wing produces lift. This overcomes drag and weight and you go upwards and forwards 😂
Oksar
Hey where are you located ?
Nice flight Thanks for sharing
Better vision, very short take off
👍👍
very good flight The camera is very low, it does not let you see the landscape, what camera are you using? , the instrumentation looks great 🙂
It’s an old Samsung Galaxy Gear 360 2017 in full 4K mode. The only place to mount it was on top of the passenger throttle which is why it was a bit low. It’s either that or mount it outside in the prop-wash unfortunately.
Stoppppppppppp lololololololo
STOPPPPPPP RIGHTTTTT NOWWWWWWW LOLOLOLOLOL
STOPPPPPPPPP
Very nice
Its the man who flies MH370
What are the costs.
£800 for the old trike. £80/hr for the instructor in the trike or £100/hr in the instructors trike
Nice flight, a little low resolution for VR Thanks for sharing.
It’s something like 2400x1440 when I encode it. Is it UA-cam that down-res’s it or is that low res for VR? It’s a Galaxy Gear 360 2017 model. Will try in an even higher resolution next time and see if that helps.
The resolution is low, the ideal is 5k or more for VR, the best position for the camera is above the passenger's helmet, it will give the feeling of flying in tandem. I usually watch the videos with a VR viewer, also Bodyshakers to simulate engine vibrations and knocks when landing, a higher quality microphone also improves the sounds for vibrations, also an independent sound recorder, you will feel all better. The camera that produces the best video is the Insta360 ONE X2 5.7k resolution. They are only tips to improve your videos in VR, also for any device, 360º videos are the future. Thank you very much for sharing your videos and being able to enjoy your flights.
He can't be the worst 🤣
Well, maybe that co-pilot who locked the door and flew a commercial passenger jet into the side of a mountain while the captain went to use the toilet was a little worse 🤣
👍
I love that you do these in 360 I can see all points and angles on the vid..... so damn cool im getting one of these cameras can you tell me which on it is ?????
I'm also glad to see you smile at your landing. You can place the camera in the back, above your helmet, it would be like flying as a co-pilot, I am using a VR viewer to see your Oculus Quest 2 videos, although it is not the best resolution I am enjoying them, without music it is like more I like them I can feel the motor and the vibrations with my bodyshakers, thanks for sharing. What camera do you use in your videos?
The camera is a Samsung Galaxy Gear 360 2017. It does have a higher resolution but the file sizes are absolutely huge. Thankyou 😁
I have seen that with your camera you can record at 4k, they are very high resolutions but for VR viewers they are necessary to enjoy the videos. The best resolution is 8k, 4k resolutions are fine too. 360º videos are the future, you can watch where you like the most, the feeling is to be flying with you. Waiting for new videos to fly with you, now enjoying your previous videos. Happy flights.
Much better without the music - and well flown :)
Great video 👍
You made it back to the field? Nicely done.
Only just, and then I got a bit of lift and I even had to lose height before putting it down 🤣
Well done! I remember my first solo in my Peggy Q. Instructor warned me it would be horrible solo but said just hang on. What an experience, probably better than first nookie. Your instructor has always been with you coaching and showing you how, then it's your turn on your own🤣🤣
Hi, my name is Silvio and I wanted to ask you about your Mainair Blade trike I became the owner of a Maunair with rotax 503, I would like to transform it by installing a Rotax 912 80hp, I was wondering where to buy the modifications, such as engine mount and others I don't know, for example I saw my shock absorbers on the legs they seem unsuitable for the weight etc ..., you can advise me that you already have it. my email is 6163tucano@gmail.com my tel +39 3358060233 I would be very grateful for any information. Yours sincerely
yo go across the ocean on this thing awesome.... ,make a vieo called the impossible ocean video for it w food in it ight that be so cool.
Awesome video : ) How many hours did it take you to qualify eventually? Are you still flying?
Thanks. About 35. Yes, I currently have 2 aircraft; a taildragger and a flexwing.
Used to fly one of those at Old Sarum. Seem to remember with efato practice, close throttle and when the stick is pushed forward you were looking at the ground directly below to prevent stall ! Also learned about rudder use in a climb out with a strong crosswind, tried to turn into wind with aileron without rudder and the little minx turned the wrong way (adverse yaw). Still, as they say, ILAFFT.
Great landing like a pro !
I wouldn’t say “Like a pro”. It floated like hell because I wasn’t used to it being so light so I landed most of the way down the runway 🤣
@@supergalley don’t tell your secret it looked great to me lol
I watched it again there was lots of runway your to humble great landing 👍 and what a beautiful area to fly
Got fed up with looking at the runway , switched off , let me know when you take off .
Beautiful location, I must come n fly from there.
Que passeio sensacional!
Good job on the solo. The aircraft sounded a little rickety though. Hope they get the rocks out.
Charlie File it’s just the sound of a two stroke. It’s a sweet little aircraft, I think it’s gone down to South Wales now.
Well done :) I have just qualified, you will love it!!!!
