Hi? Can I ask a quick question? Is it possible to use microwave instead of oven? If so how long should I the soil sample should stay inside the microwave? Thanks!!
The procedure should have some changes to be acording to ASTM C-305 (mixing) and C-187 (test in Vicat aparatus) : 1)Place all the mixing water in the bowl. *Add the cement to the water* and allow 30 s for the absorption of the water. 2)Stop the mixer for 15 s and during this time *scrape down into the batch any paste that may have collected on sides of the bowl*. 3)Press the ball, resting in the palm of one hand, *into the larger end of the conical ring* 4)*The paste shall be of normal consistency when the rod settles to a point 10 mm below the original surface in 30 s after being released*. I suggest leaving these annotations and always consult the standard directly. The construction materials tests are still rudimentary and subject to human errors, it is very important to take into account each instruction for its replicability.

WATER BEFORE CEMENT -_-
This is a poor demonstration of C-187. The cement ball needs to actually be 'tossed' from hand to hand, not gently passed. And then the ball needs to be PRESSED into the BOTTOM of the mold, not gently set in the top. Read your method, guys!!
I have done this several ways and so far the mixture has not stopped the water.
