A few weeks ago I was up by my parents and Castle Rock was frozen over, went over to Mendota a few blocks away from where I live and giant waves and the main lake where I live was completely open. The color of the lake is really awesome right now. Too cold for catfishing from shore right now !!!

4 people fishing in the marsh just south of Goodland on Waubesa. Middle is wide open.

All I use all year to catch panfish are beadhead flies. The ones I tied years ago don't look that awesome

I caught some nice catfish this morning right after it rained. I was fishing some drainage pipes were the water flows from the streets. That's always a good spot where you can find one I ended this morning with my biggest carp ever just under thirty pounds. All thrown back LOL. All my fish were caught on shrimp because I didn't have time to.get or catch any bait. That's five catfish this year caught in the same spot that were close to or over twenty pounds. Caught my personal best just over twenty-three pounds. I have yet to catch a catfish in a good decade that weighs less than fourteen pounds in Mendota.

I thought eating fish in madison wws bad since the oil spill during the winter or so? Not sure if they are good or bad to eat, so i havent been keeping any panfish

I wouldn't eat anything caught from the chain, and I do spend a lot of money fishing these lakes for my enjoyment. Just being precautious.

I had to start using bobbers for catfish off the shoreline because the water is going down and the weeds are going up. This is the latest I've fished for catfish off the shoreline ever.

I got a 23.15# and just over twenty pounds catfish out of Mendota the last couple times I was shorefishing both of them about 4:15 a.m. The twenty-three pounder was my biggest catfish ever out of Mendota. Both were caught on cutbait from D&S.
