We Risked Everything To Buy This Forgotten Irish Manor House
Переглядів 198 тис.Місяць тому
In 2024 we took the biggest risk of our lives to buy this 300 year old Georgian manor house in the West of Ireland. Follow the journey as we document the entire process! Instagram: @thecallofthecurlew Music by Harry Fennell #ireland #restoration #family #manor #countryside
Goodness. I always have in my mind, the idea that huge trees must be future- full- growth distance from your buildings. At least you can plan that from now own. Nothing too big near any walls you want to keep, perhaps like the walled garden area. Even the roots of huge trees can cause plenty of damage. They will look beautiful from a safe distance so nothing lost. Best wishes from Australia.
Wow, I'm sorry you had to endure that. Thank God no one was hurt. A bit of a baptism by fire.
We are picking up the pieces, ad you say at least no one was hurt 💙
brave and wondrous endeavor... good luck to you.
Thank you 😊 the support means a lot
Hello new subscriber here 👋🏻 so glad I’ve found your channel this is absolutely amazing transformation great team work guys looking forward to more videos Love from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Thanks for following along, we hope you enjoy the journey 💙
You’re family, your friends, your spirit, your energy, your music, your smile, your plans & your projects are precisely what I’m drawn to but haven’t found a channel that pulls its all together before now. I’m from Boston but my Mom is from Cork City. My Dad’s family stopped in Nova Scotia before moving to Boston so the roots on that side of my family are a bit longer. I had the good fortune to spend a summer in Cork in my early teens and I had the great fortune to work in Dublin for 8 months as an IT vendor. The second I get off the plane in Ireland it feels like home. I’m struck with a feeling this is what was missing in my life, even though I didn’t realize it. So many Americans search for their Irish roots & claim to be Irish but for me it’s just part of me. My Mom’s parents have passed but they used to go back home every 2 years just to renew their brogue. I don’t know if it will happen but I do dream of retiring in Ireland. I’m realizing while I’m writing this that I’m jealous. I wish I was young and could embark of such a journey. My brothers have never been to Ireland and we do think about a trip someday but life happens. My Dad is 90 & my Mom is 87 & I’m their caregiver. That keeps me here but I’m extremely lucky to have this time with them. I have 4 brothers but we had a devastating loss a week before Christmas. One of my younger brothers, Bryan died very unexpectedly. He lived for music. Worked in NYC with many bands, some more successful than others. I had the pleasure to host some of them in my home as their tour passed thru Boston & seeing you talk about & plan for events, it really reminds me about Bryan. My older brother is the true musician. I played piano, clarinet and guitar as a child but none very well. We had a little folk group when we were kids and we’d perform in church. That was a very long time ago and none of it was recorded, unfortunately. Now I wasn’t planning to give you my life story but there’s a bit of it. I love your videos so far. Don’t be afraid to show us more unpolished day to day content. Personally I would watch your gorgeous baby all day. I’d love to support your music too. Do you have recordings I can purchase? I’ll be embarrassed if I should already know ya. I’ve had my head in the sand for a few years. I’ll look in tour description. If your videos are an indication of your music, I’m already hooked. I’m on board for the duration. If you start a Patreon or channel membership, I’m there too. I feel this is a unique opportunity to have you read my comments. I predict your channel with skyrocket this year and you won’t have the time. I love it all so far. I wish you so much bliss and success. God bless ✌️ 💚 [-trish murphy]
Wow Trish, thank you so much for leaving such a personal comment. I'm so sorry to hear of your tragic loss, I hope your family and friends are all supporting one another through this difficult time. I am thrilled you connected with our channel, and don't give up on your hopes of an Ireland trip anytime soon. We've got our BnB up and running so do reach out if it comes up on the cards for you! In terms of music, I play just for fun with friends and family but we have many talented people through our doors so there is lots of music in store, when we get some recordings together, we'll post a link to a fireside sessions account and you can listen there. Thanks again for your time and words, we hope to hear from you again on our journey 💙
It looks great...maybe stain or finish the inside of the bar shelves? 😊
Still some finishing touches left for sure 👌 thanks for the tip 👍
Wow looks incredible, well done! Xxx ❤
Thank you 😊
First and foremost, Danny is so adorable and your wife is beautiful. Then, Oh my goodness! You have done so much. The Confessional Box with the doors in the front of the bar, a Masterpiece! What a wonderful friend you have to give that to you, and all that participated in putting it all together. It really does take a village to help friends. And the John Denver song was PERFECT! This whole building is so warm and cozy, I love it. Your family and friends looked like they had a great time working together. This is very heartwarming. I really like your dad looking over the bar 😂😂. And I saw that “Jaws” sign…hahaha. That movie scared me to death. ( I’m old enough to have gone to see it at the cinema ) But it is a wonderful classic. I’m going to have to back this up and have a closer look at all the great pieces in there. I’m so glad you were able to already use the bar to ring in the New Year. Job well done by all. (ps- sorry I get so long winded) Kind regards, 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪
Wow! Thanks for the heartfelt comment ❤️ really glad you enjoyed our video and hope you keep following along on our journey ☺️
@ Oh I absolutely will! Thank YOU for sharing. I will follow for sure!
I am so sorry for the devastating storm of your home and the beautiful glorious trees that were torn down and the house and buildings. My heart sank for you and your family. The idea to allow people to come and help is fantastic. If I were closer, I would be there in a heartbeat and do whatever I could to help. Im sure there are many people that will come to help. I just know in my heart they will come. I pray for you all, as this is a large task at hand. And making new decisions along the way. I love that you are so positive at a time like this. That is a rarity on a typical day, let alone the devastation of something like this. The world is a mess and your positivity is unmatched. Prayers for you all. And so grateful you are all ok. 🙏🏼 To the Ballinderry community: if you are not able to go or donate, if you watch the advertisements that could help in ad revenue. At this point we are family and we can help by just doing this small thing. I know we like to skip ads, but we can watch or grab a cup of coffee, do a chore, to help them all. Just an idea if you’re interested. We could even rewatch the videos to help with the algorithm and get their videos spread far and wide. Thank you for sharing this with us all. I know it wasn’t an easy thing to do to speak up about it and relive. Is there a Patreon we can donate too? For tools, supplies, equipment rentals, even food supplies? Much love from Texas, 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪
I have just seen your comments on all of our videos and I have to reach out to say how touched I am that you've taken the time to watch all of our videos and write a lovely comment under each 💙 We will update on the channel when we sort out a Patreon. There is just so much to do to keep this property and land running, and never enough hours in the day! Again thank you so much for your support, we'll post another video in a few days ☺️
@ Wonderful about working on getting Patreon! It would really help even with feeding people when they come help. Sorry I’m so long winded. 🙄😊 I just love that I found you early on! Even though I know you have been there a while. I really want to help so much. I’m going to rewatch all videos again for the algorithm! And wish I were closer. I would help cook 3 meals a day or whatever you needed of me. Laundry etc. And, please do not feel like you need to respond to this. I know you are busy. I think I’m writing a book at this point.🤣 this is probably chapter 6-7. Really, no need to respond. Your time and rest is valuable and spending time with your wife and sweet Danny. Best wishes to you this week. Thoughts and prayers to you all🙏🏼. Texas-🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪
Thank you for sharing with us. I’m so excited to be a part, even from afar. This house, will absolutely bring people together. What a lovely outlook to have. I’m looking so forward to this adventure of a lifetime. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments leading up to this purchase. 41 acres is a nice size piece of land. I must say, your son is adorable. 💝. Watching from Texas. 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪
I Love this BEAUTIFUL Manor House. It seems to be in fairly great shape! I just subbed immediately! I cannot wait to watch this channel grow! The paneling throughout, the stair case’s, the HUGE kitchen, basement, it is all so amazing. I love the table, what a treasure! I love the artwork left behind, more treasures. I should have first said the entryway……is incredible. Just quiet simply stunning. I really like the color of the Ochre room. It’s so warm and inviting. All the sunlight streaming in from all the windows, just wonderful. And the coach House, wow…… it is in good shape as well. I could go on and on. THANK YOU so much for sharing with us. My small town does have many Victorian homes. But nothing like this. This is exactly what I invision when I think of the countryside in Ireland. Just wonderful. Going now to watch the rest of your videos. Best of luck to you all. Cheers 🥂. (let’s get that wine cellar filled up and beer on tap 😆) Kind regards, from Texas 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪
Gorgeous house.
Backlighting the shelves of the repurposed confessional would really make the wood and items on the shelf pop. Also adding additional glass shelves would be great and you can change colors of the backlighting and put it on a timer and dimmer. Backlighting the base of the lower cabinets would look great too. My husband has a AV company so I’ve seen fab stuff done with lighting! All that mold 😮such a lot of work! Kudos to you! Really great job 👏 I love it! I’d love to come sometime!
Thanks for the comment and the suggestion. Some back lighting would really bring together the place ✨️
Old buildings like these need to breath, need to use vapour open materials like lime and wood fibre etc. But great transformation
Thanks for the tip and the comment!
😢😢😢
Wow!! Great job, lads!! Looks fabulous. Absolutely love the bar ❤
Thanks so much!
What a beautifully warm kitchen! Those contrasting woods are just something! Lovely!
Thank you very much! 😇💙
@ We spent a few days in Galway this past fall! A great vacation and then went to visit family in Edinburgh! Had a wonderful time touring all points South! We will be back for sure!
Several episodes would have been very cool.
So much more to show and we are editing as a hobby but we might release some extra videos in the future of some more detailed work if people are interested! We have tonnes of footage and only so much time to put it together
It seems you had a lot of helping hands. That's very nice.
We are so lucky, this dream started by a love of community so we hope to carry on that way 🥰
Please, wear next time a mask because mold is very unhealthy.
I can really recommend a desiccant dehumidifier to remove moisture internally
Ah, Jim Croce in Ireland!
Best of combinations! 😋
Love the music❤
Jim Croce <3
Well done!
Wow!! Great! I am really curious about how many people actually live here!
I think our baby daughter wonders the same thing, as do we sometimes 😂 we don't turn anyone away at our door
Is that the theme tune to "Father Ted"?
Sure is. Harry Fennell version!
Beautiful, thank you for sharing.
Thank you 😊
Wow, it's really looking great. Love what you did with the old confessional, really beautiful. But the main star of the show is Danú, she's adorable 🙂
Thank you so much! 😇

OMG 🎉🎉, what a transformation. Well done ye. Can't wait to see what's next
Thanks so much! 😊
amazing space, well done 😀
Thanks! 😊
The leak from the window above is not the root cause of the damp problem. Yes it was a leak but it is likely not causing the building wide damp problem. This is caused from dry lining interior stone walls. If there was a big enough cavity behind the dry lining you could add mechanical ventilation to the cavity stop the problem. Adding mhrv to the rooms would also help. Alternatively strip all drying lining to solve damp problem, but then building will colder.
Thanks for the advice, we'll look into it!
Wow, what an incredible transformation. It looks beautiful. Well done to all involved.
Thank you so much!
Three minutes in and I’m hearing strange noises. Anyone else?
