Hey everyone!!! I'm Efren and I have a a couple project trucks 1988 Mitsubishi Montero / Pajero / Shogun / Dodge Raider and a 1987 Dodge D50 / Ram 50 / Mitsubishi Mighty Max / L200. The basic vehicle maintenance needs to be done on all my vehicles, some modifications to get them looking better. They're in the basic shape that you will find 30+ year old truck so I'll be doing videos on the maintenance and modifications I'll be doing to them. Both are 4WD vehicles so I will be taking both on to the some trails, these are NOT rock crawler vehicles they are more for overlanding and I do drive them around as daily drivers occasionally. I might also throw in videos of my daily 2011 Ford Taurus SHO just in case someone else needs the help with it. I am not a mechanic but I have been tinkering with vehicles most of my life so I will keep things as simple as possible when explaining them.
Mighty Max and Montero Aluminum Radiator Upgrade
I love this upgrade so far, the engine temps are way better with this radiator than anytime I've had this truck (about 7 years). My Mitsubishi Mighty Max/ L200/ Dodge Ram 50/ D50 radiator began leaking and I found out it had cracked so it was time for bigger and better things. I ran across the Eastwood Tri Flow aluminum radiators so I had to try it out. Although meant for a GM vehicle it was close enough to make it work on my Mighty Max/ L200. I did make the mistake of getting the radiator too large but I had to make it work, buy the 22" wide radiator to make it easier. The Tri Flow aluminum radiator allows the coolant to pass the fins 3 times before getting returned to the engine. Since I do live in CA and we have a ton of traffic, plus I will be taking these trucks off road, this is great for low speed driving. New mounting points were made but the largest modification to the radiator was the outlet spout had to be cut and re welded in order to clear the power steering pump. Although I did install this in my Mighty Max/ L200/ Ram 50/ D50 this will also work for the Mitsubishi Montero/ Pajero/ Shogun/ Dodge Raider so I will be doing that later on. Although I don't have a fan shroud yet it still cools really well. When I take my Montero/ Pajero wheeling I should have no issue with the coolant temps. I did take my Mighty Max/ L200 to the King of the Hammers off road event this weekend and had no issues.I did not compete but I did enjoy the many trails they have in Johnson Valley, Ca. I drove nearly 2 hours (around 45 min going up and down hills), beat it up quite a bit on the trails, then drove it back home the same 2 hour route without the engine temps exceeding 210º F. This Eastwood Try Flow aluminum radiator was in my opinion one of the best upgrades on either of my trucks since it gives me the peace of mind that I will not overheat.

Montero/ Pajero/ Raided J Hook style wiper arm upgrade/ also for Mighty Max
Переглядів 3252 роки тому
This upgrade is for the Gen 1 Mitsubishi Montero/ Pajero/ Shogun/ Dodge Raider but I will be doing it on my Mighty Max/ L200 / Dodge Ram 50. The J Hook style windshield wipers are pretty much standard on most current vehicles and a lot easier to install than previous style clips. The J hook style wiper blades are way easier to find than the pin style that came factory on these vehicles, I had t...
Mighty Max Tuff Pan Install and Speedometer gear change (Starion/Conquest)
Переглядів 7453 роки тому
The Mighty Max / L200 / D50 / Ram 50 Gen 1 and Gen 2 transmissions are known for not being very strong when you begin to add more power than factory. Along with those are the Starion / Conquest (Starquest) are also in the same boat since they use the same or similar transmissions. This is why swapping the turbo Starquest engine is so common with the Mighty Max and Montero's. One major weak poin...
Mitsubishi Starion / Conquest swap into Gen 1 Montero
Переглядів 9763 роки тому
It's been a while since I posted a video but here's a quick recap on what's been going on with the Starquest engine swap into my Mitsubishi Montero / Pajero. So far besides time to spend on the swap everything is going pretty smooth with the turbo G54b engine going into the Montero. with it being an automatic I did have to make bracket for the "kick down" cable, hopefully it works properly. The...
Mighty Max/ Ram 50/ D50/ L200 4WD radiator upgrade!
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
Hey everyone, while I've been searching for missing parts on my Starion engine swap for my Montero my Mighty Max/ Ram 50/ L200 radiator decided to start leaking. I did order a different upgraded aluminum radiator but some fabrication still needs to get done. I was realized that my Gen 1 Montero/ Pajero factory radiator was very similar to my Mighty Max/ Ram 50 radiator so I decided to measure i...
Gen 1 Montero Turbo G54B Starion/Conquest engine swap pt1
Переглядів 1,5 тис.3 роки тому
My Gen 1 Montero build took a turn, the engine started to act up so I decided to pull it out. Instead of tearing it down and rebuilding it I decided to use the turbo G54B engine I was going to use for my Mighty Max, I now have a different plan for the one. I will be using the turbo G54B engine from the Mitsubishi Starion/ Chrysler Conquest (Starquest) which will bolt right into the current tran...
Gen 1 Montero axel swap, air locker rear end upgrade
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
Time for a big boy upgrade on my '88 Mitsubishi Montero / Pajero, it's getting a larger and better rear axel. The 1997 - 1999 Mitsubishi Montero /Pajero Sport use the same style rear leaf suspension a my '88 SWB Montero / Pajero, not only that but all the mounting equipment is pretty much the same. Here in the U.S. we were not lucky enough to get the diesel powered Montero / Pajero so I do not ...
On board air compressor for Mitsubishi Mighty Max; Sanden 508 AC compressor converted to air pump
Переглядів 8 тис.3 роки тому
On board air compressors are awesome to have if you are taking your vehicles off road, rock crawling, overland or even if it's on a work truck. My Mitsubishi Mighty Max did not come with an ac system so it was perfect for me to convert a Sanden 508 ac compressor into an air pump for on board air, its very similar to converting a Sanden 709. It was pretty easy to convert into an air pump but I d...
Mighty Max upgrade to Zevo LED Iights
Переглядів 3,2 тис.3 роки тому
The install is super easy and an upgrade that is worth the time and money. LED lights are definitely brighter than the more common filament style bulbs. Sylvania ZEVO LED bulbs are what I chose, their design is smart and effective. I think these are the best bang for the buck when it comes to LED parking lights, turn signal and reverse light. My Mighty Max has been needing a light upgrade somew...

My 1987 Dodge Power Ram / Mighty Max 4x4 is finally running again. I had to modify the clutch from cable to hydraulic, replaced the factory carb with a larger Weber 38/38. Since I do not know how to weld I was at a stand still with the clutch pedal modification for a bit. I do a quick overview of the truck, it's modifications and it's future modifications. It will be a fun little truck to drive...
Rigid Ignite install on my Montero Part2

Installing the Rigid Ignite back up LED lights onto my 1988 Mitsubishi Montero. Along with the LED light kit I will install the Rigid Industries wiring harness 40192. In this first part I install both the Rigid Ignite lights and the Rigi...
7 inch LED Headlight Upgrade : 7 inch headlights install on a 88' Montero
Переглядів 17 тис.4 роки тому
They're here! 7 inch LED headlights installed onto my MK1 Mitsubishi Montero. This 7 inch headlight upgrade is something I've been wanting to do for a while, the factory halogen 7 inch sealed beams don't put out a large amount of light, especially compare to newer headlights. Installing them was pretty simple besides a little trimming and wire cutting. The difference in light is significant, now...
How to install sound deadening material: Kilmat install and review

Sound deadening material installed onto the roof of my MK1 Montero, early Land Rovers will benefit from this also. I chose to go with Kilmat 80mm because it was more affordable than Dynamat and it looked to be a good product, was RIGHT! I believe this also will help out the early Land Rovers since they don't have much support on their roofs either. I show you the simple tools I used to install ...
Compared: Mitsubishi Montero and Mighty Max 4x4
Переглядів 5 тис.4 роки тому
I compare the Montero and Mighty Max / D50 next to each other to show their similarities. A large amount of parts when compared are actually interchangeable. The basic engine bays and parts from both are almost the same, just mounted in different locations or maybe slightly modified. This allows some easy and cheap modifications to be done with both which I plan on showing later on.

Mine is like that! I ordered on Amazon that was supposed to fit but they sent me a J Hook style now I’m going to have to return them but I found out it’s called a bayonet style wiper arm, what you have is J Hook blades. You need bayonet style wiper blades.
@EfrenGarcia
Why did Frank Eck tell you to drill holes? 😬🙄 all you had to do is un bolt it and use a puller and swap them out. 🤦♂️
Easy.... Frank Eck is the ad/expert of that site! His option's/comments are why I left that site! I did my swap with a new driveline. Davada
Awesome video! I just did the same thing with my 88 Raider based on your video. Went smooth thanks to you.
would this be the exact same step by step if i was to do this on my 1990 montero LWB ? can i use any year montero rear end ?
just fabricated our own with 6061 aluminum. not as fancy as this, with anodized coating, but it does the job. i hope it's true that it can make the km145 handle up to 500hp because i just swapped it with an EVO 3 4g63t engine. will be modifying/tuning it to about 500hp/500lb ft
Looking for km132 tuff pans please help!
Thank you.
U said no difference for the 1157 white led behind the red lens. It makes it less bright and a bit less usable light. If u swap to red led or 1157R, it becomes more usable light. Same goes for the Amber as well.
I would put Amber led behind the amber lens, and red led behind the red lens for increase the intensity of the led. I have them 1156A,1156W, and 1157R. As a birthday gift for my friend’s 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback. It’s gonna be awesome. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks for the information man I appreciate it. Do you happen to know if the brake calipers are interchangeable between the two? I can't find any passenger side calipers anywhere for my 1986 montero. Anyway thanks again
are the brake calipers the same for both ?
Loved your videos bro, new subscriber here!
Awesome car! Just picked up a 92' gen 2! Cant wait to upgrade it!
What is the year and model of the Montero to get the wipers?
Hay. Looks good. Where did you get the converter and what's it's actual name
There was no specific brand, the power inverter was a random one I bought off of Amazon
Hey bro do you have a km145 trans for sale? Preferably a 1988 year
Sorry for the late response but I do not. Sorry
@@efrengarcia2344 no worries i was finally able to find one after months of looking i got extremely lucky at a junkyard
He tenido 3 y no sé cuál me dió más problemas!!!😂😂😂😂😂 pero aún así quiero otro!!!
Does anybody know if the transmissions are interchangeable on these 2 cars?
Yes they are as far as I know. I am currently using a Montero 5 speed transmission (KM145) on my Mighty Max. I believe the automatics are also the same. On the 5 speed ou will need to change out the shifter and 4WD levers from one to the other depending on which vehicle you’re replacing
I’m about to attempt this for a standard 5spd. Besides oil pan, be expecting a complete nightmare?
Is it possible to do the swap of the rear disc brakes only on an 87?
I’m doing this same job on an ‘87 D50 4x4. Will it be the same situation?
Yes, mine is an ‘87 4x4 as well
Thansk you for this important info. Is the brake power booster on these trucks interchangeable?
Are they the same gear ratio?
They are not but they are close enough to where it will not have an issue. The front diff (stock gear) is 4.625 an the rear end with the locker is 4.636
Great video, next one show the mods for the air compressor. Great explanation of the manifold pieces! ♦️♦️♦️💪
It is interesting to see that the Gen 2 have a stronger larger diameter U joint, and also 5 bolts on the coupler plate instead of the 4 bolts that is found on the Gen 1! I wonder if this is because the Gen 2 is heavier and has larger motor, probably.
fantastic video hello from England
thanks for sharing 👍
Hola tienes fotos del carro ya terminado y cuanto mide de ancho
88 89 starions came with a thick aluminum pan like this
Could you also provide a link for the Polarity Converter please? Thanks.
Great Video! What is the model of your front bumper?
It’s a custom front bumper, I had someone build it for me
@@efrengarcia2344 Got it. Thanks. And the install was rather simple? I have an 87 Raider.
@@JF14Official the same guy that fabricated it made mounts for it so it’s removable. He did the fabrication and install for me.
I'm guessing that tool you used is a Rivnut installer
The Sanden 709 is a popular compressor model to use there's vids YT to modify it
This Sanden 508 is pretty much the same build as the 709. The 709 is too large to fit in the factory location which is why I used this one
You needed a step joint
I would need a step joint for which part?
A step joint is 2 different sizes on the caps your local parts store should carry.you Might have to go old-school parts store. I'm going to rebuild my 2.6 now this one took out the balance shaft. any advice?
@@robertduvall4905 You can delete the the balance shafts, apparently that is a common issue on these engines, including the Starion turbo 2.6. My Ram 50 came with them deleted but my Montero didn’t, there is minimal difference on the engine movement. There are kits to delete everything that has to come out. The alignment rings from both Gen1 and Montero Sport driveshafts are the same, that’s why I just drilled new mounting holes for it.
Where is everyone getting their transmissions rebuilt? also here is a tuff pan alternative while you wait for another run. Part 2502A008
I’m looking to lower my 88 Monty, I’m wondering if spindles of mighty max an interchangeable. Might you know? I know lowering the tension bar will get me down as well as blocks for the back, but someone stated using lowering spindles.
I’ve never looked into lowering a Monty bUt I’m sure you might be able to find something about it on here www.mightyram50.net The front suspension looks pretty similar, I’ve never measured it out though.
@@efrengarcia2344 thanks for the reply I’ll give that a read threw. Thank you 🙏🏾
Cual motero trae ese diferencial
Este era en un 95-99 Montero Sport. Se tiene que buscar por el que tenga este diferencial. Va tener un botón que dice (Diff Lock)
Hi hope you could help me out i have Mark 1wagon, swapped the engine to a nissan qd32 together with transmission but am having problems on the differential ration on the diff,it appears to demand more higher gear on to the top speed, what would you advise, thanks
I don’t really know much about that vehicle but sometimes in each vehicle model there are different gear ratios depending on engine and trim. Maybe one of those different gear ratios will be what you need
Dude thankyou so much for this video! Will all gen 2 rear diff setups bolt onto a Gen 1 like this? Are there any specific Gen 2 diff setups that won't bolt onto a Gen 1?
The Gen 2 have rear coil springs so if your Gen 1 has rear coil springs then the swap should be similar. If your Gen 1 has leaf springs like mine then you’ll need to fabricate it to fit.
@@efrengarcia2344 doing gods work
Is it possible to get the 4.9 ration differentials with a locker? I saw a swap where they took gen 2 diff from XLS models and used it because it had 4.9 gearing instead of the 4.3 but it would be sweet to have locker on it too.
ugh - i wish people wouldn't refer to "montero sport"s as "montero"s....very VERY....different cars.
Do you think I’m mixing them up? If you do, where did I mix them up?
@@efrengarcia2344 no you didn't in the video. I was commenting on the title.
It is a Gen 1 Montero that I’m doing the axel swap into. I am using a Montero Sport rear end to swap into my short wheel base (SWB) Montero.
The comma separates the two parts of the title
Do you if there another way of contacting the tuffpans guy? I tried your email out to ask a few questions about the rear axle assembly but it doesn’t work.
I was able to contact him on the Mitsubishi Mighty Max FB page. I asked around about the Tuff Pans and he ended up contacting me. I do not remember his name but I'm sure if you search there you can find him. I had to wait until he made the next batch to get mine so you will probably need to wait also if you contact him
Thanks for the video. Do you know how to connect DRL wire if your headlight has one?
I haven’t done any with the DRL but I would think it gets wired into an ignition source so when you turn on the vehicle the DRL will also turn on
Thanks for the super helpful video! My '90 Montero is so much nicer to drive at night with LED headlights. Looking forward to a headlight alignment tutorial.
I've been looking everywhere for a tuffpan. Too bad I didn't notice and missed out on the production run last year.
I’m looking for one too asap! Need help!
I did this with my 89 silverados a/c pump. Worked great.
Works great and hasn’t failed me yet.
Looks really nice my uncle has a 89 4 door super wagon 2.5L petrol manual I believe I’m trying to buy it
Nice! That should be a fun rig. If it is a 2.5L I believe that would be the diesel engine, I wish I could have got mine with the diesel
@@efrengarcia2344 yeah ima keep it a cleaner example cause it’s currently rust free but who knows I may just put a diesel from a hilux in it
Is there a certain type of ac compressor you need to use for this? Or can you do this with pretty much any ac compressor? I wanna do the same on my gen 2 pajero and just adapt the factory ac pump 😅
I think you can but some of the ac compressors use nylon or rubber parts so you’d have to be careful with that when trying to keep the system lubricated. Sander and York compressors are pretty popular in converting to air pumps, they also use all metal components so you don’t have to worry about any material breaking down due to the oil or grease
@@efrengarcia2344 ah yup I see! I was gonna use an inline oiler and deoiler rather than greasing it, looks like a few people go with that option, I've got no idea what sort of compressor mine has currently, I'll have to investigate further
@@cancer_stixx the one I used was an aftermarket unit I found in the junkyard on a different Mighty Max. When I checked which one it was I saw it was a Sanden unit so I knew I could use it. I will be trying to adapt a different one onto my Gen 1 while keeping the factory AC
