C-3 thru REX50 into Leslie 125 Getting that nasty growl!
Ok, I'll be the dunce. What is it?
I motori delle trombe stanno girando al contrario 😂
Can you really tell the difference? I have other Leslies that run in the “true opposite motion” and connot tell difference. I had a music director at a well respected college take a blind listen and could not tell at all. This was a modification with spare parts so unless I hang one opposite of another which would look pretty stupid or rework motors which is stupid as well. Why would I spend time to give a visual correctness to an issue that isn’t an issue at all? Sorry this bothers some people but this is the way it stays and it sounds great! 😂😳😩😫
Thats not a 125, they dont have a horn, ive got one- They dont have louvres in the top. Ive got like 8 Leslies. Thats got to be a 122-
I wish! It’s a 125 that I modified:)
What is that?
It doesn't sound like much is coming out of that horn though
Yeah, this was with old crossover. Since then I’ve changed crossover to 800hz and changed up horn driver and fit (barely) a 15” bass.ua-cam.com/users/shortsNJMN7RdPIPM?si=XfBjN4SaYvQdWc0k
I like the part when it spins real fast.
Bruh must have summoned a demon over his shoulder
What’s a good option for a cheep crossover?
I used PRVaudio 2DF800 800hz prvaudio.com/products/2df800/
I need one for my Dad he wants one for Father's day
There supposed to spin in opposite directions

I made one out of paper and it’s sounds like this😂
Woah thats cool
JBL E130 or E140?
That’s an E140, bass sounds much better! Thanks
What I'm really impressed is the size ot that magnet.
It looks like an replacement woofer non original.
@RoderikvanReekum yes indeed! Once I added the upper rotor, I added a 800hz crossover so I wanted hear that bass pump as well as the upper frequencies ringing out! Original sounded ok but I’ve since upgraded to a 15”, that sucker just fit in there……..that’s what she said lol
Such great sound
The top horn is not sounding. Is it even connected to the audio. All I'm hearing is bottom rotor.
This is actually its first mod. The driver wasn’t the best and the crossover was not correct as well. Since then I’ve changed driver, added 800hz crossover and fit (barely) a 15” bass. ua-cam.com/users/shortsNJMN7RdPIPM?si=keZVzLo-o78qTUOy
Made me realise important it is to look after this instrument mechanicaly
We actually had one, blew a few belts and 100 Watt lamps, a few times. They sound awesome. Thanks for sharing !! (=
Do you have any suggestions on how to make a Leslie 910’s bass rotor have fast and slow speeds? Should I just replace the single motor with a dual speed?
I was lucky enough to have a spare low/fast stack just like in the upper half of your 910. Tap into upper fast wiring in bottom, slow stays. Don’t think a dual speed motor would work with relay. I took the simple approach and have had no problems. They’re on eBay for about 250$ you’ll definitely notice the difference! Good luck!
Hi, I’m a bit confused sorry, did you mean to say that buying a dual speed motor won’t work? Can you explain what you mean by tapping into the upper slow and could you provide that eBay link. I really would like to convert mine.
I guess I took the easiest route I could. As I mentioned, I already had a stack. When I removed original fast motor, I connected those existing lines to the new stack’s fast motor. Then I traced the slow wire connection at amp. Used quick connects to tap slow motor into those lines. There will be minimal room between new stack and amp but makes it with wiggle room. I actually just searched Leslie motor stack on eBay. As soon as you receive new stack, plug both motors in to make sure they work and would make sure they are clean and oiled and O ring looks good and small motor engaging properly. You’ll most likely have to do a little adjusting once you mount new stack. Mounts line up so that’s a plus. Whole job took about an hour. Have fun! I unfortunately had to let mine go, one of my biggest regrets!
Is it possible to hook up a duel speed motor? Maybe, but I’m thinking not what it was designed for and mounting one to work correctly with upper half may sound funky because of speed differences. Of course there’s a difference in drag from horns to bottom rotors but I’m keeping to original design I suppose.
Thank you so much for your detailed reply. Im so tempted to try this with the one Im getting I just would hate myself if I screwed it up trying. Thank you again!@@kev6589
What instrument is he playing here? It sounds a lot like A Whiter Shade of Pale. Would love to know where to find one of those
It’s a Hammond C3 organ thru a modified 125 Leslie speaker.
@@kev6589 you are a gentlemen and a scholar. Thank you good sir.
What kind of upper Driver is that?
Thanks for asking. It is a Peavey 22XT+ I have upgraded both sub and driver since then. ua-cam.com/users/shortsNJMN7RdPIPM?si=uJSp9ojV274gCeg7
Looks like an Electrovoice SP12c handling the lower frequencies
Yoer good at that👍
Thanks!
When the dog ran away😂
Thought the horns went in an opposite direction... or is that another model ... nice though ... love a Leslie with a wound up Hammond giving it wellie ... cheers
LOL! Yes, they should be turning opposite directions for “true” Leslie sound! I actually modified this 125 by adding the upper horn I think it would sound funky if both both spun at same speed projecting in same direction, probably a pulsating vibrato not pleasing to the ear…..maybe? I have a 760 that does rotate in opposite directions and really don’t notice any difference. Was going to reverse motors but I’m pretty happy with it, as is ! Thanks for your comment!!
Only one of the horns is functional. Its opposite is a dummy for balance, equal weight distribution when spinning.
How much does one of these cost ?
By the time I was done purchasing all components and original 125, 1/4 the cost of a 122/145.
Too much
Sounds amazing! I read that the 125 uses the same vacuum tube amp as the 145/147 and 122 models. My questions is, does the 125 model originally comes with the black volume knob on the amp? Can’t really see it that clear in your video, but i watched a video explaining lot of the that gritty tube sound comes from cranking up the volume knob on both the leslie amp as the organs tube amps..
The video explaining the volume levels of both the organ and leslie ua-cam.com/video/wopTS9HNjak/v-deo.htmlsi=KCePidmTlQVBuNUx
Thank you! And yes it does have the (pointer) black volume knob. I keep it around 7 and have separate preamp after (effects loop) that I can tweak to get that growl and clean it up if needed. Yes you are correct, if I crank it, more volume = more growl! As with any tube amp, you get those tubes working, changes everything! Thanks for asking!!
@@kev6589 Thanks for the reply! After some research on the web, I found out that there's different models of the 125 and in some of them (I believe earlier models) there's indeed a I think a type 25? amp with the knob, while other models have a different (smaller looking) amp without it. Hmm. Did you use the Trek II effects loop? And what kind of additional preamp do you use, if you don't mind me asking? :)
@@simonpoort No problem! I love this stuff! My setup is a 58’ C-3 with 26-1 conversion to the 125. For my loop I use TrekII ODB-2 into Yamaha REX50 then into an ART Tube MP to boost up signal again and send it back to the 26-1 to Leslie. The REX50 has stereo output so I can send one to my 760 in addition to the 125. Sounds pretty cool!
all you need is a lil looper action
How did you fix the breaking mechanism for the lower motor stack wiring?
Actually pretty simple! I spliced into upper’s slow motor wires 1:53 used quick connect so no soldering needed with a solid connection. Relays don’t know the difference and no issues. Sad to say I just let it go. Awesome amp, very versatile and LOUD! I’ll miss the beast!!
@@kev6589 This is cool, I have done the same yesterday with the 900P. But you know there is a breaking mechanism that meant to slow down the lower (bass) rotor by applying half the current on the fast motor when the half moon is either on STOP or CHORALE position. What the circuit does: it opens a triode till a 10k resistor gets loaded full, then switches off. I am afraid to use it like this as when switched to CHORALE it will still send half the current to the fast motor, and that might end up with motor stack heating up like shit. I am thinking of replacing the 10k resistors to a lower values or even bypassing them completely. I was wondering what solution was on your mind? Greetings from Budapest, Hungary
@@RichardRoland I only tapped into slow motor wires leaving fast wiring the same so braking is the same as before I added slow motor to bottom. So just borrowing a bit of juice from small motor at top. I had and played this way for a while with no issues. And greetings from southern New Jersey, USA! Awesome that we can converse from so far away! Good luck Richard!!

Great sound
Wow! Thank you so much!! Not to sound corny, but I’ve watched your videos for knowledge and inspiration for a while now. Only have been playing couple of years and fell in love with the Hammond (guitarist at heart) Thanks again Nick! Kevin
@@kev6589 thank you mate
Rotation direction**
Yes, the lower rotor should spin oppsite
With this application, I would need to flip a stack or reverse motors in stack. Had this in mind for future project but honestly can’t tell difference side by side with a “proper” rotating Leslie. At least I can’t tell. I have since changed both speakers and added proper crossover, sounds even better now!
Yo kev
I remember seeing one of these in church for years and having absolutely NO idea what it was lol
Hey dude, some question, did you have one extra wire to link the amp?
Not sure what you’re asking but hot signal comes from organ preamp as well as power , to power up the 125. Routed thru a kit box on organ then thru cable to amp. Audio signal is then split with 800hz crossover to tweeter and bass. No extra wires unless I created them. Hope this helps,if not, let me know!
@@kev6589 thank you so much, actually I don’t understand a lot of things about Leslie, I buy one 760 and need it so much work.
@@Gog-rb7te Hi Gog, I actually have a 760 I reconditioned! It’s the solid state version of a 147. Yeah I know, no tubes but man it’s loud! Having the separate preamp is nice to play any 1/4”jack instrument thru it. I stripped old tolex and stained, looks pretty nice now. Look up Leslie 900 project on UA-cam,that one I reconditioned as well but added a 2speed motor to bottom rotor. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
My Dad used to have one....sat up in a storage building for years...and when we turned it on...rat droppings flew everywhere 😮
That’s hilarious! Hope no one was yawning at the time! LMAO!!

I'd accept rat droppings every time I used it if I could have a Leslie.

I had planed a project lime this, but got rid of my 125. Ugh. Maybe I'll use my old 120.
Go for it! Looks very similar. Pretty cool that you have a 120 regardless!
What a Very beautiful sound .

i thought that 125s didn't have tweeters?
That’s right! I found a 125 in great shape for a really good deal and added the upper half from parts. Had to cut slots in cab, add a shelf which I installed motor, tweeter and horn assembly. Also had to add a 800hz crossover, little bit of electrical work and here’s the closest I got to a 145 for an 1/8th the cost! Not as many watts as a 145 but perfect for home and recording. Thanks for asking
I wish someone would make more of these.
Some of the new Alexa speakers use this technology in s slightly modified/updated way
How so? Sounds interesting

What crossover did you use and how did you fit that 15 in there?
Hello, thanks for asking! I purchased the crossover from prvaudio.com it’s a 2DF800 2way 800hz. As far as the speaker, it’s a JBL E140-8ohm. I did not modify cabinet but used a shorter screw to mount bracket and mounted speaker down. This left about a 3/4 lip around that I could’ve trimmed back but does not reflect on sound. Since doing this, been really happy with lows and highs!
@@kev6589 what horn driver is that?
Needs a 122 with it
Man, I wish! But I am merely a man who cannot afford the finer things. I did modify my humble 125 by adding upper motor and horn as well as a 800hz crossover. Perhaps one day I’ll be lucky enough to run by an affordable 122, but till then it actually sounds pretty good! Thanks for your comment!
