Brimley's performance here always stuck with me, and very few performances do that. Here you've got a major official presiding over an important proceeding, and his demeanor here is that of someone who is tired and doesn't want to be there and is not interested in tact or formalities.

His folksy manner of speaking and demeanor was used as a brilliant device to breakdown the somewhat complicated plot elements into easily digestible parts, for the sake of of the audience. Outstanding combination of writing, directing and acting in this scene.

People want government officials to intercede in situations of injustice, to bring clarity and truth to the fore, as Wilford Brimley's character did so ably in this fantastic movie. Alas, this behavior is ever more rare. Honesty is a precious commodity, and personal integrity on the part of government officials is not the means by which they advance in their career paths. "Mister Gallagher, I seem to want to ask did you set the whole thing up?"

How is this a "tutorial" for the government? I've been a federal employee for over 20 years, and I've seen deliveries like this more times than I can count. This is art imitating life, not the other way around.

Tutorial for the Government ? My backside. The only time the United States government has ever done things above board, was in movies. I always get a kick out of how Hollywood / Washington D.C. , nearly always manages to let some government agency, "steal the scene", and be heroes. There's an old saying about the government pursuing organized crime...... "They don't want competition".

I like how James J Wells follows "I'm gonna have somebody's ass in my briefcase" with the directed "Eliot?" who's posterior was the one that ended up in his attaché. It suggests the assistant attorney general knew right from the start whom he was probably targeting.

At the end: "Elliot, you ever give any thought as to what you're gonna do after you leave public service?" "I'm not quitting." "You ain't no political appointee. Man that hired you was me. You got 30 days."

I want one person. One. TO tell me why can't find the full scene online when I could 6 years ago? I want the full scene. What could POSSIBLY be the problem with that? I can get almost every scene from any movie. Not this one. I DON"T GET IT.

Andrew Durham The full scene is not available because it's the only good scene in the entire movie. If Sony allowed it to remain on UA-cam nobody would pay to see the movie.

Goldcountry is correct. Having a man's ass in a Senior U.S Attorney's briefcase means you are more or less a dead man. You will feel damn lucky should you avoid Federal prison. It is not a problem; it is a solution to a problem.
