I appreciate what Randle did for the team, but it seemed like the lack of an extension with NY was a sign that he wasn't coming back next year. It was going to be trade him or lose him for nothing. Losing DDV is a tough pill to swallow as I was hyped for the Nova Knicks and he was a genuinely great piece for the team. In terms of maximizing Randle's trade value, this is a peak example of that. The Knicks needed a legit center and you'd be hard pressed to find a better center available. He's not the defender that Robinson is, but his defensive numbers are still decent. Despite his reputation, KAT is a much better defender than Randle. The bigger impact is that he offers so much more on offense. His ability to space the floor is elite and his decision-making is quick. I love Randle, but sometimes the ball comes to him and the game grinds to a halt. The fit of KAT with the team is just much smoother than Randle. The pick and roll and pick and pop with Brunson and KAT is going to be elite.

Very good trade. The Knicks were losing Randle for nothing next year when he becomes a free agent. This moves makes the know a tough out in the East against any Eastern Conference team.

Randle brings a strong secondary ball-handler who has proven can play 2nd fiddle to Brunson and still thrive. He's questionable on defense, but the Knicks have enough strong defenders to hide that. I remember last season when he stopped chucking like 7 or 8 threes a night and suddenly started living inside the paint his efficiency took off. That's the version of Julius we need. I believe he could average 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists with the current Knicks roster and still be the 2nd best player. Provided the should is good in time for training camp, I'd say give it 20 games and people will remember how impactful Randle can be.

The Knicks can and should go out and get a center. Mitchell Robinson struggles with injuries nearly every season. They can go for Wendell Carter or Walker Kessler. Both can score, rebound, block shots & defend. Also Wendell Carter has some passing ability which can likely replace what the Knicks lost in Isaiah Hartenstein and can shoot some 3s which can be a benefit when it comes to spreading the floor.

I'm not even a Knicks fan and I wouldn't make this trade.

Kessler is young and has a lot of upside potential offensively and on defense he is elite already.

I would certainly make the trade for Walker Kessler, but the 1st round picks the Knicks still own are protected picks. My guess is that Danny Ainge will want at least 1 unprotected, which the Knicks do not own atm. I've heard rumblings of a trade for Jonas Valunciunas of the Wizards after December 15. JV can't be traded until then due to him signing a new contract with the Wizards this offseason. He's more of an offensive-minded big man, but he's still a solid rebounder and would make a decent mix of styles with Robinson.
