Classic Car TV is a channel for enthusiasts of not just classic cars, but 'special' cars, whether they are Porsches, Ferraris, McLarens, MGs or whatever! So far we have covered cars which are 90+ years old, through to cars that are less than 10 years old. Let us know what you think we should cover in the comments.
Is it possible to make a Lotus Elise S1 even better?
The Lotus Elise S1 was voted Best Sportscar of the last 25 years by Pistonheads readers. You wouldn't think that it would be possible to improve on the recipe. Or would you? The experts at Analogue Automotive thought that there was a Singer Classic-type hole in the Lotus market that could be filled by a thoroughly worked-over Elise S1, and so they created the SuperSport.
This is the first in a series in which we cover the commissioning and completion of a SuperSport. We talk with Steffen Dobke at Analogue Automotive and follow the process through from start to end. Make sure to subscribe to see the whole series.

2012 Classic Le Mans - a racing driver's tale
I had a left hand drive 71 for 10 years. I didn’t feel old when I married or got a mortgage or had kids. The day I sold my B and bought a minivan I felt old. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and my youth.
You're very welcome, Sam. You know the answer - buy another one!
when is the next video coming?
Thanks for asling. Shouldn't be long. Just waiting for a bit more filming at Analogue Automotive.
are these widetrack wishbones bespoke ones? i would love to see some more suspension footage..
I'll check with Steffen. I think we will cover suspension more closely in one ot later episodes.
996 GT3 RS was actually the seond rarest of the RS lineage after the 4.0
I've always been a big fan of the 996 GT3. I've not had an opportunity to try the GT3 RS.
Fantastic to be able to follow the build of the ultimate Elise variant!
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying it as much as we are.
Can’t wait to watch this series! Oddly enough I also have a French blue lotus Elan S3 and planning on buying the same Elise S1 in the titanium grey next week from Stefan 😂😂
Small world! Good luck with the grey S1. Maybe we will bump into each other at AA sometime.
Powder coat for wishbones, worst idea ever, just ask a tvr owner
I don't know the science myself, but my understanding is that AA has been doing it routinely on Elises for many years without issues.
Care to share why exactly?
If the powder coating is damaged, water gets in between the metal and the paint
Great topic. Looking forward for next episode.
Thanks! P2 coming soon.
Great video looking forward to seeing how the series unfolds. As a 22-year owner of a Sport 160 I can definitely vouch for the genuine smiles per gallon Series One Elise's can deliver :)
Thanks very much for the kind words. Part 2 coming soon!
Spotted your vid on lotus page on Facebook 👋🏻 subbed for more, great video ❤❤
@@mrmotors_uk thanks very much!
The donor car isn’t grey! It’s ‘storm titanium’ - it also looks too good to strip completely and spend 100k on so I’m interested in why?
@zedlicious it was/is a really good car, but that's sort of the point, start with a good one and the end product is the best it can be.
Honestly wish that lotus would have made a bigger push in America. The Elise is such a wonderful car all around. A pure drivers car.
@nicholashernandez1494 at least there's the chance to import them now under the 25 year rule.
Lovely to see the Elise go from strength to strength 👍🏼
@LarryMalone Thanks! It's still amazing car today.
2.7 RS for me. And a great video too - intelligent and excellent choice of experts giving their many years of experience with these cars too - Josh is the RS legend!
@mattsutton8833 thanks, Matt. Your comments are appreciated. It's hard to argue with choosing the 2.7 RS. And yes, great guys. I first met Josh about 30 years ago when I bought an Oak Green SC from Autofarm. And I'm going to be making some more content with Phil Hindley.
Beautiful video. I love seeing an MGB being driven around like this, as I don't see them much in the States. I hope to own one myself someday.
@ManujaDeSilva-cf3mx thanks! Despite the fact that a lot were built, they are getting rarer even here.
I too believe the McLaren 12C and 675LT will be fruitful in the future, especially the 675LT….
@@conner.9262 Buy now!
My first MGB was a GT which I bought after selling my first ever car which was an MGA. The GT (1966) was finished in a Ford colour, Blue Mink which was what the previous owner ( the Duke of Westminster ) had it painted to match their Rolls Royce. It was a great car to drive and travelled to Cornwall and the lake district with me and my girlfriend who is now my wife. I sadly sold that car to enable us to get a mortgage and our first house along with a clapped out Mk 2 Ford Cortina ironically painted Blue Mink! I’ve owned numerous cars since but am now looking to buy a roadster to fettle with (hopefully not too much rust involved) !
@@anstroth great story! Good luck with the search.
Hi there! Im currently loking to get my first car, and Ive had my eye on a 1968 MG MGB...do you recommend it as a first car, or would you say to look other models? Thanks for a great video
@santiagowalton1436 it's a great first classic. Like most old cars, things will go wrong, but it's simple to fix and parts are cheap and readily available.
Those classic 🐍 charmer flute tunes...
Congrats for the nice video. Loved it
Thanks very much!
just wanna say fantastic production quality. new fan
Thanks so much for your comment. I appreciate your support.
It's interesting to hear mr. Stephenson would prefer it to look like 675 LT from the get go! I have huge respect for him for sharing his knowledge and being involved in designing a number of cars I admire. I remember being fascinated with MP4-12C when it first came out and sort of struggling with its design. It is very restrained and I thought it could have a bit more flair. But I couldn't point out one thing wrong with it. I finally saw the car in the flesh at the British Motor Museum this year and I kept turning around after I examined it to look at it a bit more. This is when I started to seriously appreciate it. It's a cohesive, VERY well thought-out package. All he lines make sense. It's reduced to a point of being minimalist and I guess that's why people yearned for more but it's also why it matures very well. I seriously appreciate it now and would love to own one. I know it wasn't suposed to look like an F1 but it's the closest to it design-wise out of the whole line-up.
I completely agree that it has aged very well. I spent time in a 720S recently, and I honestly don't think that the MP4-12C misses much.
I got a '67. Shoot me an offer. I have had it since '77. I'm about done with it.
Good luck with the sale!
Thank you
Happiness
In a word, yes!
Wonderful analysis, thank you. It could only have been made better, selfishly for me, had you included the 80s RS - the 3.2 Club Sport.
Maybe we have to feature that on the channel too!
Thing about the MGB , it's the sweet spot between the midgets , lotuses etc and the really big engine stuff like e types Cobras etc. Yet......... A good one can hold its own with modern traffic and with overdrive cruise comfortably. Factor in the fact that parts are so cheap and readily available , it is the perfect car.
Great comments, thank you. We would agree on all counts!
This video makes me long for the days when we had roads like this in America. I suppose there are still some out west but here in Maryland.... all but gone. Sure miss my 73 "B"... or is it being 21... maybe both. I used to say driving my MGB was the most fun you could have with your cloths on. That and sailing...there were many days when I did both.
They say nostalgia is a think of the past, but what the heck!
We still have roads like this in America. You just have to know where to find them.
I needed this video, I am a student still and the midget what the first car i ever got mine is full of rust but still a great thing to drive
We love a midget too!
Brilliant video and fantastically done car.
Thanks very much, Martin. Glad you enjoyed it. Do you own ab MG yourself?
@@classiccartvfilms Hi there. No, I don’t own one at the moment. I have one of Carroll’s cars, but ours while fun, is set-up like the race car it was and it’s not a lot of fun to drive long distances or all weekend lol. Since college, I have always liked the late 60s MGs, especially for a more frequent driver car. It’s between this and a Datsun Z car in the next year or so. Again, this video and car are truly wonderful to watch and I appreciate you reaching out.
Our pleasure. It's always great to talk with other enthusiasts. Enjoy your Shelby!
@@classiccartvfilmsIt will probably take me a bit to find/import a right hand drive version of either car, but I’ll check back when either arrives. Enjoy your weekend and that stunning car.
Great video. Full of information. Thanks 🙏🏿
Thanks very much. It was a pleasure to make. Are you mainly interested in Porsche content, or other brands too?
@@classiccartvfilms I’m actually addicted to Porsches. I’ve had a few watercooled cars in the past last being a stunningly beautiful 997 which I hated because of how soulless it was to me🤦🏾♂️. Now running a tribute 993rs🥰. Prefer the old stuff, having had an e30 m3 evolution and a Nurburgring edition e34 m5 6speed last yr production model in total 22/17 years of ownership of this cars at same time.
Fantastic history there! We have had many cars in common. More Porsche content in the pipeline at the moment.
Watched this again. Still great. Instead of wasting all that money, time,& material on a Tesla, Make these, (1968 MGB) just as it came back in 1968. Guaranteed they would sell all they could make if the price is right. Note: You're only here on this planet for a very short time so make the best of it. Enjoy & take care of what you have. The feeling that uplifts your soul doesn't come from a prescription bottle or illicit street drugs. MGBs ect. are therapeutic to me anyway & when you praise Jesus of Nazareth while driving your B, it's perfect.
Great reply, thanks Craig.
did you buy this car from northern ireland ?
I am pretty sure that Manek bought the car in the UK. Why do you ask?
Very interesting- thank you. Have been a fan of Frank Stephenson for awhile and always value his opinion. A couple of Alfas I think will be modern classics are the 4C and the Giulia Quadrifoglio- the latter having an epic engine.
Thanks! Couldn't agree more about the Alphas. Maybe they will appear on the channel ...
12C is a insane bargain for what you get but I believe the F1 and P1 will be the main poster child’s. Speed tail and Senna are also special but think P1 will outshine those over time.
I agree about the P1. It features a lot in the other McLaren video on my channel - the GTR cars. Have you watched that one? ua-cam.com/video/_8m8v7rQNm8/v-deo.htmlsi=JcOK4nY10Xy9i_Vl
I had the same 68 in burg but with steel wheels.stebro exhaust. I put new rocker panels on it a replaced the solenoid 2xs since I forgot to shield it when I drained the radiator. It was a great car . Very reliable. Had it for 5 years in high school and college. Great for moving back and forth to college from NY to pa. Was a wonderful experience despite what others say….. 😅
You can't go far wrong with a 'B!
12c a classic I wouldn't bet on it but a crack of a deal in the V8 TT segment, absolutely...
It is unquestionably a bargain at the moment! So much supercar for the money.
What a great video, thank you!
Thank you! More Porsche videos coming soon. Recent drives include an original, perfect spec 930 Turbo and a 911R, which was genuinely one of the best 911s we've ever driven. Absolutely worth all the hype.
@@classiccartvfilms congrats for the great content! Thanks for sharing
There nothing but an unreliable poorly manufactured ball of scrap . Typical garbage McLaren
I bought a 2014 12C Spider almost new and now only 2k miles. It sits in a humidity controlled garage. It’s rarely been wet. It always draws a smiling crowd for its wonderful curves and lines. Drives perfectly and is lightening fast. It’s a classic now, not 5 or 10 or 20 years time. Nick.
Totally agree with you Nick. A timeless classic! Keep enjoying it. Did you watch my F1 GTR video? That takes classic status to another level.
I would imagine a Datsun Fair Lady would provide a similar experience. A car need not be powerful to be fun.
Maybe! 😄
Owning a classic car is never a sensible decision. It's an emotional one that modern car owners will never understand.
So true!
Thank you so much for a great mclaren clip - got so much great information about this car that I didnt know before. Need to dive deep into the other clips.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, beautiful car in the best colour, I currently have r/b roadster, which i bought back after 15 years, i also had a 1970 mgb gt at the same time. They were great fun. Owning the car this time round, it needs some TLC, I'm looking forward to getting back to its former glory with some tweaks😊.
The tweaks are half the fun, aren't they!
The next car you should feature in your modern classic series is the 1991 Acura NSX. I have one that sits next to my 2012 McLaren MP4-12C Spyder in volcano red. Steve
You know, Steve, I've been thinking about that one myself! I've always been an admirer. The next video in the pipeline (perhaps the next two videos, actually) is Lotus-themed, but I do have a bit of a link to a friend of a friend with an NSX. I will reach out.
Nicely done and narrated vid, thanks! I'm in the US and also had a hankerin' for one since my teens and finally beginning looking now that I'm in my 5th decade of life. I don't know which year to get but if there's a "most reliable" year, I'll look at that.
Thanks very much, Malcolm. One day my own MGB will be featured here, but that is a bit of a painful, 20 year story! I'm not sure that there is such thing as a reliable year! However, the most sought after cars are the early ones, and roadsters especially. I hope you find a good one and have lots of fun with it!
My 68 did not have headrests?
That's a beautiful MG ! I love the BRG. I had a 1974 MGB GT (pre rubber bumper) And I loved it ! Great fun to drive and tinker with! Living in Iowa at the time as a hard top with a decent heater I could drive it year round..That was in 1987 and I was 30 at the time. My Father (bless his heart) always told me how impractical it was. But as much as I loved dear old Dad he was boring ! So practicality did not enter into it at all ! It was good fun ! I miss that MG more than any other car I ever owned. It only cost me $2200 ! Best 2200 I ever spent !
Excellent video. I love my 12c
Thanks, Robert. It's an amazing car and a true modern classic.
Beautiful car. I had a similar one and loved it. More power? I later bought one already converted to the Buick 215 ci (Rover 3.5L) aluminum V-8. I bought it with the conversion already completed but my understanding is... The aluminum V-8 is lighter than the original iron 4, no suspension upgrades required, and as a Rover engine it pretty much bolts right up to the trans. Didn't overdo the power but made it a much more satisfying drive in my opinion. Is it true Brits like warm beer because Lucas refrigerators? Don't know, but my MG's were very reliable!))
A couple of clichés in there! 😆 And Lucas only made cars fail, not refrigerators!
