Hi Adam, Alas the design of the engine was made up as it went along I swapped a cast iron flywheel with a friend for his brass one and the bronze cylinder was from a beam engine and the brass cylinder covers all of which were bought at an exhibition from a stand selling metal. The only drawings done were necessary dimensioned sketches. You might be interested in seeing how the engine looked when completed. ua-cam.com/video/J8h6FZgb4cE/v-deo.htmlsi=_HDGvrAtFBQpnXaX Take care Tony.
Any plans on how you made this beautiful engine
What a fabulous layout, absolutely brilliant
Hello. Great work done on your Dixie. I own a SWALLOW from Maxitrak that has the same cilinders and the same troubles: Leaks between pipes and cilinders +++ Do you resolder the chest with comsol as final assemblY? How did you resolder? Do you have the size and dimensions of the 4 fittings you made? Many thanks in advance.
Hi Philippe, Almost the first job was to solder the steam chest to the cylinders. The faces of both the steam chest and the cylinder were scraped flat and their faces tinned with Comsol using Bakers fluid as a flux. A blow lamp was used to do this. Having fluxed the mating surfaces, using the four corner steam chest studs as a guide the steam chest was fitted to the cylinder. The assembly was heated until the solder melted and the steam chest could be pushed onto the cylinder. When cooled the four studs were removed and the assembly was boiled in washing soda to remove the remains of the acid based flux. Having cleaned and lapped the cylinder, the now complete hole for the exhaust was tapped to take a fitting which was sealed in place. Alas no drawings were made of the new fittings made for the exhaust. If you have any further questions I will do my best to answer them. Take care Tony.
@@aderyn Hello Tony. I was very surprised to have a so quick answer. It is with great interest i read your informations. Many thanks for those so clear informations. The information that intrigues me is how to avoid the comsol to flow into the channels when heating the assembly? Regarding the steam and exhaust adapters, your idea is great. I'm hesitating of soldering 2 tubes when soldering the assembly. I will make 2 T connectors with nuts & PTFE sealing like you made. The future will decide... I copy you as well regarding the slots in the cilinders being not too good aligned with the slots in the steam chest. It was a long & precise work has the drill is small but needind a deep work. Luckily, all is done without breakage or damage: Yesssssss. Many thanks again fo you help and i wish you all the best, Philippe.
That’s amazing! Still got the original in prime order from when I was 13 now 59 !! You made a classic into the next level!! Brilliant & thanks for sharing!
That was a very enjoyable show and such a great shame that it’s not been supported by more visitors.
That is staggering! Amazing work Sir😎 Many thanks for sharing👍🏻
I love this little engine! How can i make a engine like Claude, i have some question for the boiler and gas tank, how did you make them to prevent leaks
Hi Anco, I am afraid I don't think I have any photographs of building a Cracker boiler but I do have a video showing how a boiler was made for another model witch might help you. ua-cam.com/video/WY8EBiPSlP0/v-deo.htmlsi=lYV1nQHSXJFG0UbI Take care Tony.
Hi Tony. Great fun, I particularly liked the various engines and fairground rides A great example of model engineering. I wonder how the engine and tender managed to stay on the track after the carriages were removed?
Hi Peter, The red Hornby engine body has been fitted to an battery electric chassis. The green Hornby locomotive still has its clockwork motor. The original wheels have been altered in profile to suit modern track . But it is amazing that given the speed it stays on the track. Take care Tony.
I had a guilty schoolboy chuckle at 2:47. What a smashing project. Regards Garry
This is an amazing video! Reminds me of professionally made magazine articles about an engine but in video format! But one question: could I take notes from toucan? Toucan seems well made!
Hi Leo, Please take notes if you wish. Take care Tony.
very cool !
Fun…as all garden rail should be, and at a bargain price 🚂🚂🚂👍
Whoo I'm dizzy! What a wild ride! 😂
Hi Tony. Given the cost of the equipment I would say the results are excellent 👍👍👍
A cracking little loco🏆
Nice little bender. Make different sizes and radius as needed. Thanks for sharing
Awesome
This is astonishing. You’ve completely re-engineered the whole thing. It would be interesting to run a side-by-side speed comparison to see if your V2 engine generates more speed than the original single piston.
Hi Aidan, It travels about the same speed as a standard Roadster, probably because it is a lot heavier. Take care Tony.
Now those Mamods can really get going…but safely 🚂🚂👍
Brilliant the way you have turned the wagons back to looking like new Tony 👍
Are the pistons alumium Tony.....or? Super job.
Hi Colin, This will explain ua-cam.com/video/iZvwAiKErj0/v-deo.htmlsi=MM-dh-YCbDgmxhOz Take care Tony.
This runs so much better than the stock mamod. You have done such a nice job
Wow.. to take what were made as “Toys”. Change them into operating engines and have them look just right…the music lifted it to an even higher place. Wonderful all through.👍
Quite a collection of rolling stock now👍
Nice one, love the thomas modification.
The new trackwork getting some further testing. Seems to run well✔️
What a great little project. So many of us have a few of these gathering dust somewhere, what a nice way to bring them back into service. Great talking point at garden gatherings. Thanks Tony. (PS Good article in Model Boats this past month thanks for that too). Regards Garry
Amazing! Especially the little V twin steam engine on the front. Great stuff Tony
Great improvement! I like the clever acid bath agitation device.
Taking a lump of ugly to a wonderful train. Well done Tony. Enjoyed seeing the transformation
Brilliant resurrection 👍
Looks great fun for "children" of all ages.
Hi Peter, I hope things are well with you. Alas, this year due to poor weather the Children's Carnival was cancelled. Take care Tony.
Simply Amazing!
Claude still goes well. Must be nicely run in by now. Love the buffer stop attendant 👍
Where's the cat?? 😂
lovely and relief that it is done no doubt. So what was the opening of the line train? A classic NG live steamer with wonderful coaches? A little cracker that Tony is famous for or A lovely blue diesel with smiling face and eyes. Exactly what I didn’t but then again did expect from Tony Views form the house views from upstairs and just watching trains go by.. All this gave me such a lovely warm feeling. Well done Tony.n I love it.
Running well and yes that clear tube is an interesting coupling method Tony - Cheers Jim
Progress is wonderful to see thanks
Its an amazing garden track you have Tony - Cheers Jim
Hi Jim, Thanks. I still have to make two lift up sections to go across a path; which if the weather improves might take a few weeks. Take care Tony.
Hi Tony, that's a cracker video 🤣🤣🤣
The red “shay-esk” no8 with the twin cylinders flashing in the sun just made me smile. And think of our shay man! The others with the brass glinting in the sun were all just nice to see running. Just shows that the variety you can achieve if your mind is free to say “I wonder if………!”
How can I get the instructions?
Hi Sandra, If you mean drawings and help you might try visiting facebook.com/groups/616952441741646/ Take care Tony.
That is a great setup and wow did some of those steamers fly through the station track at break neck speed.
Cool mamod bash.
Please do a video showing all your custom thomas engines
Hi, Perhaps, when I have a complete garden railway again. Take care Tony.
Looked like some great running with a lot of variety.
Great!
I like the improvised test tank
