Trees for Cities is the only independent charity working on a global scale focused on planting urban trees, inspiring children to grow and eat good food and providing volunteering opportunities to bring local people together. Since our inception we have engaged over 70,000 people to plant over 575,000 trees focusing on health, food security, environmental protection, and providing opportunities for education and learning through our Edible Playground and Urban Forest programmes.
Contributing towards the London Tree Ring at Hainault Recreation Ground
This 2024-25 tree planting season, Trees for Cities has been contributing towards the London Tree Ring, a vision for driving the creation of more woodland around our capital.
Find out about our involvement at Hainault Recreation Ground, a site in the London Borough of Redbridge where we planted on 16th November 2024, adding just over 2500 whips (small trees) to the trees that we planted in the same area over five years ago. Hear from some of the 150 volunteers (including just over 40 kids!) who joined us on the day.

Councils can stop ground from warming up and becoming rock solid by only cutting grass 4 times a year at a higher height instead of scalping grass areas 15+ times a year. They can also plant more hedges and better manage the ones they already have (hedges reduce wind, create shade, hold water etc) . This would be a quicker and cheaper solution than just trees...
